I doubt the father is present in most cases. I'll have to see some studies, but from personal experience, all my aunts in Mexico are single mothers. No father to be seen.
There's globalization which has destroyed the traditional way of life there. Then there's also socialism and feminism in the culture. There's also a lack of shame culture there unlike what you see in Japan. No real stigma to single motherhood.
