What went wrong?

What went wrong?

They promoted a character nobody liked with no redeeming traits and de-emphasized her femininity under the misguided logic that you have to look masculine to be taken seriously.

She stopped showing off skin and cut her hair. She started dating Rhodey instead of Peter.

But her solo book is actually decent at the moment.

I'm not sure if you're going to get a lot of responses from people who actually read it though.

I love the design and what she's become.
I like the series.

I'm not trying to start a fight, just telling you that taste differs. It's subjective.

Her arm fell off.

Still not with Spider-Woman.

I like her hair, I don't like how bulky she is. It's like Motoko in GitS SAC. She was always lithe and athletic when Shirow drew her but in SAC she was like a walking fridge.

One thing is her personality is boring as fuck. She comes across as a generic military person. It's also really unappealing how she was put in this position of command and immaturely openly hates it as if she's a teenager forced to sweep the driveway - yet in other ways comes across as kind of old and dull. A bad mix.

She's a character that Marvel is heralding as a Strong Female and cramming down everyone's throat.

What the hell could possibly go right? This is Marvel comics in 2016 we're talking about.

Finalized haircut was much better. Also, the main color should be black with blue highlights, like the original.

If you meant Carol in general then she's actually really good in both Ultimates and her solo right now.

I tell you who I hate - that fat black lesbian bitch; the embodiment of Tumblr. I was glad when she was revealed to be a evil.

besides being into Rhodey its good
they should just drop that
and get someone more exciting for her

They ruined her hair.

I wish she had the medium length lion mane thing going on still and with Harley Quinn Blue Red dye in it for shits and gigles

Define "redeeming".

Did they actually do it though? Or is she still having inconsistent hair?

...

She used to look like this.

I love buff women so I like the design.

Women think how to write a "strong female character" is by writing exactly what a man would do, then just put a woman in his place.

It's consistent now.

So strong females do what? Pick up really heavy cakes from the oven?

To be honest, if they gave her long hair she'd have one of the best designs in current Marvel next to Moon Knight.

As it stands, the ugly tomboy haircut kind of soils the rest of the costume as it tends to convey a certain tone for her personality.

that could literally be a guy though, it's like

She lost anything that was interesting about her and became a one-note "strong military woman". Nevermind that she's never been military in her 40-ish years of comics leading up to that, all hail the power of retcons. Just change anything to fit your desired result, ignore all the good stuff that exists.

nothing

>she's never been military in her 40-ish years of comics
what are you, fucking stupid? her being an air force pilot has always been part of her backstory.

Breast reduction, face alteration to make her look butch, change of body type to a male, adam's apple.

They let KSD write her.

Kinda ironic that despite feminists being ever so critical of masculinity, that's EXACTLY what they end up making their ideal heroes look like.

Aside from that though, the REAL crime is making the butch looking design look BLAND. I've seen butch women designs that look more interesting than this. Hell, Zanrya from Overwatch is quite striking and a good example (despite me disliking the hair)

No, her being into Rhodey works because it's a set-up to showing how detached she is from her romances.

It's "boring" in a vacuum but I'm willing to bet a lot that someone who lives on the planet while you're in space and you only get to see them once in a while for nookey is a good opportunity for characterization.

What are essential/recommended reads for this character?

Her current solo is good.

Her origin in Claremont's Ms. Marvel (#19, I think?)
Avengers Annual #10 + the Brood Saga in Uncanny X-Men
Her appearances in Busiek's Avengers & Iron Man
Reed's Ms. Marvel
First arc of Deconnick's Captain Marvel (& onward as long as you're enjoying it)
Butters & Fazekas' Captain Marvel (the current ongoing)

BATS
BATS
BATS
BAT-MAN

She's shaped like Triple H

Boring personality and most of her book I've read was drawn badly.

I liked her better as a woman.

why did they turn her from a 10/10 into a dyke? do they seriously think this will boost sales?

Top kek. Did you read Infinity? Her curves were all over the place.

She teamed up with the new Ms. Marvel and still seems like a person to look up to, but understandably carries a lot of the heroic burdens that all heroes do.

I know I've really only see her updated form from the periphery when she shows up in other characters' comic stories, but I like her.

>Women think how to write a "strong female character" is by writing exactly what a man would do, then just put a woman in his place.
Yeah, remember when Carol impregnated another woman?

Such lazy writing.

I love her new design (inb4 muh fetish, because it is) and her solo book is okay but her personality has serious issues. I feel like they're reigning back negative personality traits in the interest of having a "badass woman" character, but this just makes her bland.

Why do western females always look like men?

She has had a military background for a long, long time, but in all fairness I do think it was retconned into place after her origin story which was, IIRC, as some sort of security consultant for NASA. While I don't think a military background was specifically mentioned for some time, its also not hard to imagine she was ex-military who got into security consulting afterwards.

The thing that pisses me off most about Marvel shoving this bland bull dyke with no resemblance of old Carol down our throat is that they actually pushed down better characters to get her where she is in the comics.

Jean Grey, Storm and Invisible Woman - three much better characters, three characters Marvel has been pushing in the mainstream for decades, three characters still more well know. by the general audience than Carol have been shoved aside because their rights don't fully belong to Marvel. All that time and work done to raise their profile is essentially being tossed out the window in favor of an artificially created Wonder Woman for Marvel. Three much more notable heroes are being shoved aside for someone whose books still sell like shit yet is lavished by other characters in the comics with phrases like "You're so amazing! You're so inspirational! You're my favorite hero!" when they first see her.

She isn't even the best female Captain Marvel! Monica has a much better character and is a minority character as well. But she's also pushed aside so we can get a bland fridge shoved in our face by Marvel while they tell is to like her.

And yes, I'm reading her new series and it's still bland as fuck. But since Carolfags are so traumatized by KSD levels of bland and Marvel's current collective level of output being hot garbage, they mistake a lower level of bland with it being good.

Fuck this bitch. If there was a character that represented Marvel's current malaise - from the constant reboots, to the pandering to people who don't buy comics, to the forcing on readers things they don't want - it's Carol. Fuck this bitch.

>Jean Grey, Storm and Invisible Woman - three much better characters, three characters Marvel has been pushing in the mainstream for decades, three characters still more well know.

You know the reason why. Marvel can actually put Carol in their movies.

This costume looks so good.

And we will never see it again.

They thought making her masculine made her more badass which was wrong.

The gave her a breast reduction.

It's a tragedy.

>This costume looks so good.

Her ass too.

Also you can see on her comic that she has a masculine hairline. It pretty fucking obvious that the artist only knows how to drawn men.

Its simple and has a great colour scheme.

well Rhodey is dead so it doesn't matter anymore

>Kinda ironic that despite feminists being ever so critical of masculinity, that's EXACTLY what they end up making their ideal heroes look like.

This is a third wave feminism thing.

Original Ms Marvel carol was used as an icon of second wave feminism in the 70s when they held up being feminine and having free sex as ideals. That was the time when Wonder Woman's iconic status as a feminist hero was at its peak as well. Their leotard outfits were held up as examples of being liberated and wearing what you want.

>Pick up really heavy cakes from the oven?
Nope. All of them have already been stolen by Lex Luthor

I like her at the moment. I like her costume, I like the writing, and I like her characterisation as someone who wants to be a logical, rational peacemaker, but mostly enjoys punching people.
The KSD run was garbage and bland as shit, but let's be real, before that she was kind of a one-note hot mess character.

>Its simple
Too simple.
>Has a great colour scheme
It's BLACK.

You do remember she's a shape shifting male super skrull right? Well, part of her. And that part is obviously spreading and taking over.

Go get AIDS, Anka.

I've only read the first two issues and i like the book the art is nice and I love the case.

turned her into an f2m

Get better taste, bitch.

She was an alcoholic, right wing bitch with Mommy and Daddy issues.

Her current characterization is bland and one note as well.

I like the new design, while I miss the old miss marvel stuff, the new outfit is pretty and makes her stand out from the average cast.

I like the costume and I feel like her current characterization is consistent with the character arc she's been on since House of M.

what? no, but seriously, what

>She was an alcoholic, right wing bitch with Mommy and Daddy issues.
But than Sup Forums would complain about one of the few right-wing characters being someone with so many problems

Lesbian hair and body type

Moonstone was better

It's not like anyone cared about her, though. Bitches with no redeeming qualities do not great entertainment make.
And, you know, Marvel did kind of need a girl they could put in a movie. You can moan about muh Storm and muh Invisible Woman and muh Jean all you want, but it's a fact that the MCU right now is a sausage party. No matter who they used, you would have complained.
The current book has her on the same level as most other mainliners with the personality of "heroic with enough distinguishing qualities to just about make me care about them".

She sobered up

It's black with a bright, dynamic yellow lightning bolt right in the middle and top and bottom separated into distinct parts by the sash. Those as well as the exposed shoulders and thighs break up the black to keep it from becoming monotonous and overwhelming. It's just the right amount of simplicity.

>It's black with a bright, dynamic yellow lightning bolt right in the middle and top and bottom separated into distinct parts by the sash.
The sash is the only notable part of the costume.

"Black with yellow lightening bolt" is something a child would design. It is absurdly basic and generic.

>The current book has her on the same level as most other mainliners with the personality of "heroic with enough distinguishing qualities to just about make me care about them".
Yet but it's a completely artificial status. The only reason she has this status in the comics is that Marvel is telling people she does. This is isn't from any historical basis, this isn't from sales or popularity among actual readers. It's a completely manufacturered status of Marvel telling people that they need to think of Carol as the top female figure in their comics because they want her in that position. They're trying to provide your opinion for you, and it's remarkably sickening how they're going about that by having other characters fall over each other to tell her how amazing she is when there's really no reason for them to and also by how they've downplayed any form of character flaw to shield her from any sort of negative light. The only people who have parroted their sentiment are people who don't read comics but follow very agenda-based pop culture outlets as well.

Dyke haircuts only look good on petite chicks.

>she's actually really good in both Ultimates and her solo right now.
>But her solo book is actually decent at the moment.
>this is what Sup Forumsmblrcucks actually believe.

Her military back ground seems so uninteresting compared to Steve Rogers

>It's something a child would design
Or that an adult would design in something that's intended for children.

Why do you think simple is bad when it comes to cape costumes?

Try reading the books. Her solo is enjoyable.

Yeah, I have no problems with the new design, though at times they do go overboard in emphasizing how she binds her chest. Her look in the Ultimates is her best look.

True, they do need to bring more of her old characterization back.

Well, yeah, I hate the "oh she's so inspiring" and shit. That sucks.
I'm talking about her status in terms of how much I care about her, as a reader, not about her status amongst the general public in-universe. Which is "about as much as I care about Iron Man or Captain America".
Whatever. I like Captain Marvel: Agent of Alpha Flight. I like Captain Marvel, US Defense Agent.
Like... retcons get made all the time in comics, man. I didn't care about alcoholic bitch Carol. I didn't care about bland inspiring Carol. I like this version of Carol, mostly because I didn't care about the previous versions, so the fact this one doesn't gel with them doesn't matter.
You need to learn to let go.

Wasn't Storm's solo selling somewhere around 9,000?

That's Anka, though. Like this guy says, Yu drew her more feminine. Hell, in her earlier appearances with other artists, she looked more feminine.

I feel like it only ever comes up as either a couterpoint to Rogers (when they interact), or to make her out like the bad guy of the story (working against her friends post-Civil War 1)

Despite how much people complain about her being pushed, there aren't really many female Marvel superheroines that can stand on their own.
Characters like Storm or Invisible Woman may be more historically "important", but they aren't heroes by themselves. Ororo is an X-Men and Susan is a F4, and 99% of their stories are as member of those groups
Carol may be derivative of a male superhero, but she has been for the most part her own thing and her origin story can be changed to work by itself

Rhodey can do better than Carol.

Yes even now.

>Yeah, remember when Carol impregnated another woman?

Let me guess, you still think Spider-Woman was "artificially inseminated"?

Thanks, what about the new Ms.Marvel?

What ever happened to the redesign with huge tits, leotard, and pilotka. Was GOAT and I cant find it anywhere.

Mostly good. A few ehh issues, but any run gets them.

feminism and lefty propaganda

From one of the hottest superheroines of all time to one of the ugliest dykes ever. You don't need anything else, this describes the fail that is Captain Marvel.

The only worse thing I can think of is Kate Leth having Vampirella redesigned into a feminist Buffy the Vampire slayer knockoff in almost fully covering clothes.

So your saying you'd rather have a new hero then continuing using her history and problems.

I'd be fine if she went to AA. And was determined to turn her life around, but her development was mind wipe.

I don't mind the original costume switch up at all.
I just wish that certain artists didn't seem to think that she can't be a strong female character while still retaining femininity.

Do you not remember?

Silly user, the only way for a girl to be strong is to become a boy

>to one of the ugliest dykes ever.
Now hold on, she's a very hot dyke.

>Look at thumbnail and think it's Carol and someone else punching each other's fists like in muh animes
Was pretty disappointed

Thank you for posting the non-cropped-butt version.

>ITT: People mad because there's one less character to jack off to
Ever heard of PORN

>her origin story can be changed to work by itself
Her origin story is literally Green Lantern's origin story.

No.

Not really? Obviously development that wasn't "mind wipe" would be preferable.
The transition was shit, but again, I now am interested into what she has to offer as a character when I wasn't before.

this is fake right?
