The big white spider symbols and the white on his hands are meant to help you track his gameplay motion easier. As for the rest, beats me, but it's close enough to the classic design that it doesn't bother me.

90s Carnage was edgy venom for edgy kids. Symbiotes are terrible in general and have ruined Spider-man, hence there haven't been any good Spider-man stories post 80s.
