Does anyone know when the next season is supposed to air? It seems like the show is picking up traction in the webosphere

Rumor has it that it might be as soon as December.

Gonna post the comic preview here, it generated a decent amount of discussion last thread.

>"From days of long ago, from uncharted regions of the universe comes VOLTRON: LEGENDARY DEFENDER! When Team Voltron takes on a dangerous training mission in deep space, Coran, Princess Allura’s majordomo, is captured by an ancient enemy. It will take teamwork, smarts, and, of course, Voltron, to save their friend’s life. This galaxy spanning adventure is a never before seen chapter of the epic animated series reboot by show writers Tim Hedrick (Avatar: The Last Airbender) and Mitch Iverson."

Part 1 is due out July 13th.

Why can't they work faster?

We give those asians good quality rice and they take this long to animate?

This and the next page are one of the better references I've seen for the visual differences between the lions. I never really could tell what variations blue, red, and green had other than color before.

The Muldoks are fucking huge; nearly as big as the green lion. Also the name "muldok" just screams "generic alien race" to me

They each have different mouths and fangs. For example Yellow's underbite, while Blue is the most "conventional".

Is Pidge making a bad pun here? Also what the heck is a gravity halo.

Interesting that despite being the Knight of Sky, Shiro's shown in the OP and this comic as flying his lion through space tunnels and the vacuum of space, rather than places with low gravity, high wind conditions, or gas giants. In Japanese philosophy they make a distinction between sky as in space and sky as in wind, and it seems like Shiro is being treated as the space form. Which is also the fifth element aka quintessence in Greek philosophy.

I find it implausible that any place of business still exists, in any form, after 10,000 years. For reference, 10,000 years ago, humans were just developing agriculture for the first time.

Last page

Hyped to see more alien designs. And do those guys in the top right look like non-purple Galra to anyone else?

Green is the cutest because it's doing :3 like a proper kitty.

He looks like Panthro.

Yeah, they say Knight of Sky, but the black lion's aesthetic says "space" to me

More importantly who the hell survived long enough to remember Coran from ten thousand years ago?

Megas was such a great show

I want to know the Black Lion's special attack abilities. Red can shoot fire, Blue shoots ice, we don't know Green but for now it can turn invisible, Yellow doesn't seem to have any but they do point out its insanely high DEF stats in place of that. But Black Lion just has the standard beams and mouth blade that all the lions seem to have, and a pair of wings it doesn't really use.

You could argue that Yellow's ability to bodily smash into stuff to great effect is its special attack. That kinda feels "earth-ey" to me.

I'm really curious if Green is gonna get a special ability on its own. I'd love it even if they just mentioned "oh, Green is the most suited to modifications.

I agree, though. Black Lion is so visually different from the others, it's weird that that isn't reflected in its abilities.

Delete this thread! There hasn't been a new episode in nearly a month. You can have your Voltron threads back when the new season comes out.

Conversely, the show's been out for less than a month, and there's a comic coming out in a week.

>wings it doesn't really use

I just kind of assumed they were massive boosters a la Tallgeese that simply haven't been highlighted yet.

I'm assuming we won't see Black's special function until its Bayard is used.

>I'm assuming we won't see Black's special function until its Bayard is used.

Speaking of, I know some people have noticed that the Black Bayard is used in the intro sequence, but I've not seen anyone note that we don't actually see the Paladin's face. It might not be Shiro.

...

When will we see the bitch?

Could be a flashback of Zarkon or someone else. I don't think that's Shiro.

...

People have, it could be Shiro or Zarkon, or it could be Allura or Keith. I think they're keeping it vague on purpose.

I haven't seen this show yet. I was interested because I liked LoK and I was excited to hear Studio MiR and Dreamworks were working with Netflix when that news came out a while ago. Is it something I would like if I enjoyed LoK but was never really into the old Voltron?

Personally I like it better than LoK(I've also never seen old Voltron). The setting is obviously very different, but I think the things you probably like from the LoK writing are intact here, if not better.

The characters who've been given decent screentime are pretty likeable, the ones who we haven't seen as much of have potential. No one is super shoehorned into an archetype, they all have their own personal quirks.

The action is really nice when they're on foot, though I don't really think the mech fights are anything to write home about.

I'd say the worldbuilding is a bit less coherent than AtLA/LoK, since handwaving things in a sci-fi-ish setting is more noticeable, but it hasn't bothered me *too* much.

Maybe? The writing is more like the original Avatar than Korra, also you don't need to know that much about the original Voltron to enjoy it though it helps if you do because of all the namedrops and throwbacks.

I wish the Lions got battle damaged, I think it'd add a lot to the mech fights. As-is they just sort of sometimes stop working for no visible reason when they get hit a lot. The stakes feel very nebulous, since as far as we can tell they're completely indestructible.

>The setting is obviously very different, but I think the things you probably like from the LoK writing are intact here, if not better.
I can believe that since I was disappointed in the writing of LoK even though I enjoyed so many of its elements and ideas

>The action is really nice when they're on foot, though I don't really think the mech fights are anything to write home about.
I was never a fan of mech fights to begin with but if the series has action outside of that then I'm good.

>Maybe? The writing is more like the original Avatar than Korra
Oh, even better

>also you don't need to know that much about the original Voltron to enjoy it though it helps if you do because of all the namedrops and throwbacks.
Awesome. Now that I think about it I think I did watch a little Voltron as a kid and I remember having at least one big toy from the series. I'm going to check this out.

Well we can see the lions with some scuffed paint on some of the closeups though it's not much.

The mech action in this show is way better than Korra's. None of those schlocky Sato Big Daddies or Kuvira's retarded Tetsujin-28.

True, it's definitely better than the Korra mechs (which always felt super out of place to me anyway), though I still don't like it as, say, old Zoids or something(which I think is comparable cause robot kitties)

this is fucking terrifying, did he really just fucking crushed those guys inside their mech?

jesus fucking christ.

I wasn't even thinking of the mechs from LoK, they were complete ass.

I meant more generally, I was never a huge fan of mechs with a couple of exceptions like Big O, G Gundam, and Zoids.

The CG mechs in this show are surprisingly well-integrated with the 2D animated stuff.

True, I think they *look* good (well, voltron's design has always looked kinda dumb but whatever), but I'm just not impressed by the action scenes they've been in so far.

I think another factor(in addition to lack of real battle damage) might be the effortless flight they have, even in gravity. They have no sense of weight for the most part, and big stompy mechs are my JAM

>They have no sense of weight for the most part, and big stompy mechs are my JAM
I think I get you. I really like Big O and its mechs and fights because they feel like they have the weight you would expect a machine of that size to have. Its like watching construction vehicles fighting which is awesome.

I just want more of these two interacting, like I could see them playing video games together or something. Probably with Hunk too. I feel like they'd have good banter.

...

>at work
>get new order to fill
>look at details

Okay then.

I hope this happens in the show at some point, just so the Australians would shut the fuck up with the "She's small, therefore underage" crap.

kek

Same. I mean, Pidge might very well be a kid, but I really hope she isn't, and I hope they make all the ages clear at some point.

I never watched any old Voltron and I really like this show. I also liked LoK

I have shit taste and I love Worst Boy.

jesus christ allura's hair what the fuck went wrong.

This artist poofs her hair way the fuck up. I don't know if they're trying to do black girl kinky hair or if she just really likes floof, but you can tell his/her stuff by that.

black girl hair is fucking disgusting.

>Lance
>Worst Boy
You mean Best.

I would friend a Lance.

I can tell you from personal experience that poofy hair is SUPER fun to draw

I just find it hard to believe they'd have kids training for ship crew. Everybody in their class looks at least 16.

Then again, Pidge could be smart beyond her years and lied about her age to get in.

Yeah, the most compelling argument to me for why Pidge might be young is that, well, she entered the Garrison under a false identity, so none of its requirements are really relevant.

>The different skin tones were added so the characters wouldn't all be white this time around

... But none of the characters were white in the first place.

Pidge still looks pretty cute as a Funky Tuna.

Co-signed.

Interspecies mating when?

funky tuna pidge cutest pidge

I love him, but he is trash. My finest trash child. My beautiful boy.

>lotor is elliot rodgers

>implying wetsuits aren't even hotter

gotta love the mice

Are-- are you the same person from a few threads back? You posted the same thing with the same image. Do you just want to start fights over the mice. I can't blame you.

I get wanting to have the show's namesake mecha present from the get-go and all, but I wish the writers had had more faith in the show and let it take most of the first season to get all the Lions together and assemble Voltron.

It'd have so much more impact if it was something they spent a long time working towards, and they could devote a whole episode to each Pilot finding their Lion, what their bond with their Lion is like, and generally digging into their character.

Then when they finally formed Voltron it could be this really huge, cool, badass moment. I dunno, I agree with the complaints that the first couple episodes feel really rushed, and I wish they'd gone about it differently.

Ahaha, Coran took them to a dive bar. I want them all to get drunk and have Shenanigans.

good point

...

I do not. They're fucktarded.

They do give excuses for Allura to be adorable though.

Pidge frequently getting so wrapped up in work that she forgets to eat, sleep, or shower might be sort of a headcanon, but it is my favorite one.

>those fucking eyes. that shape, that height
>that fucking nose, it and the mouth ready to slide off the bottom of the face
frozen has ruined a generation of artists

why is the fanbase so fucking garbage? it's so fujoshi I can smell them from here.

You gotta love the mice, though

fujos are allowed to like things

leave if you hate it

...

Release your anger. Seek tranquility.

Or just become so numb to the fujoshit that you automatically glaze over it.

>Muldoks
They were mentioned on the show, weren't they?

>Talwar Six
THAT'S NOT HOW PLANETARY NOMENCLATURE WORKS!!!

>Wombeast
Paging Dr. Freud.

>Or just become so numb to the fujoshit that you automatically glaze over it.

Years of not liking futa but having other /d/ fetishes is serving me well in this regard. Why is there so much homolust in the Voltron fandom though? Not sure what made it crystallize so hard in this show.

I wish we had more Amazon Allura stuff

It's animesque and has a main cast that's 5 and a half men out of seven. Do the math.

I don't go to Sup Forums ever. I assumed it'd be more moeshit and waifuism. Is fujoshit the third pillar here? Which is fine I guess. Not like Sup Forums isn't ultra gay for Dick either.

I've never seen LoK, but I can say that this show is considerably better written and animated than old Voltron which really suffered from formulaic MotW structure. Pretty good action and visual design.

I just that realized Pidge's little bot is Illuminati.

...

>most of main cast guys
>loved by yaoi fangirls

wow no one could of predicted this

>Why is there so much homolust in the Voltron fandom though?

Not sure how new you are to action cartoons since the early 2010's, but it's specifically designed to attract the fujoshit and tumblr audience.

>4 of the 5 paladins are guys.
>they fit various fetishes - Hunk and Shiro are bara, Lance and Keith are twink/anime pretty boy.
>first episodes is clear to determine what'll be the most prominent homo ships - Shiro and Keith through touching and past relationship, Lance and Keith through obvious rivalry.
>meanwhile Pidge isn't a guy but her whole boy coverup thing is huge bait for tumblr and it's SJW deal with trannies.
>show resembles anime with its art style.

It's a good show, but it's definitely tumblr bait because that's where the money is now - Netflix shows especially.

It wouldn't even surprise me at all if this was an experiment to see what they could get out of the newfound tumblr audience, which is primarily comprised of older viewers like teens and college kids, rather than actual kids (which is still what most of the outdated networks and the cable channels are still specifically aiming for.) It's the reason why Steven Universe is a success.

Kind of like how Samurai Jack is getting an M-rated reboot for adult swim - because children today don't give a fuck for action shows on network or cable TV. Hence going for the nostalgia bait move, "growing it up" with its original target audience, and maybe getting some modern teens or older children interested because they want to watch mature cartoons for mature viewers such as themselves. You know, that kind of deal.

And if we aren't getting a canon gay relationship in this show, then I sure as hell am expecting a shit-ton of gay baiting to make up for it.

...

>ship a non-gay guy with a non-gay guy
>totally ok

>ship gay girl with non-gay guy
>or
>ship gay guy with non-gay girl
>you're hitler

why me. why this.

...

post best boy

There have been a lot of queer baiting with Sheith from the creators. I don't get the Klance love from the fandom much, as it's so much popular.

>I don't get the Klance love from the fandom much, as it's so much popular.

>typical opposites with a rivalry-turned-friends shit
>both are good-looking pretty boys

Oh, don't worry, that wasn't exactly what I meant. I knew that it would get some shipping traction when I saw the episodes the first time, but I didn't expect the ship to pretty much overshadow everything else by a wide margin.

I kind of did.

Shiro embodies a specific taste, he's very bara-like in his appearance.

Where as Lance and Keith are pretty boys, which is safer and more common in fujoshit crap overall.

I saw a theory from tumblr that the mice's designs reflected some of the the OG Voltron crew (Keith/Lance, Pidge, Hunk, Allura) excluding Sven

Then theorized they are connected to this universe's OG Paladins now that Zarkon was revealed as the Black Paladin

>I saw a theory from tumblr
> T U M B L R

like 90% of the stuff that gets posted on here comes from tumblr. chill.
