I guess because we randomly had some really good ones back in the 80s which spawned tons of copycats which then over time created the metal tradition, it's just how it is here now. Usually when I meet a musician who isn't a complete jazzfag they want to start a metal band because it's seen as the natural thing to do even among normie musicians.
Don't think the climate has much to do with it desu.

Yes, I think due to the high amount of successful metal bands here, metal is seen as a swedish thing by swedes who play instruments, making them gravitate towards that genre. Particularly in melodic death metal which many even claim started here. While norwegians are big on black metal (best bm bands are swedish though imo). And finns make that folk/melodeath thing.
