You think he'll ever make a movie or is he too afraid of the higher standards of movies? Are directing skills interchangeable? reminder that takeshi kitano directed a game once.

He'll gather an interesting cast and crew, post some very intriguing production design prepwork, maybe even make a short teaser or two and then dip the fuck out of project like he always does

What was MGS4 but a Direct to PS3 Movie?

Why are video games held to such a lower standard than film, music, literature, theatre. Etc? Has there truly been a video game that can stand with the likes of lynch, kurosawa, or even kubrick?

I want him as the batgrown ninja in the movie adaptation of neuromancer
Hideo as Hideo

No, not even close. The best of games is decent genre fiction at best so something like what Nolan does - sure

Bloodborne, and I'm not even talking about gameplay. Which is obviously a huge part of it.

planescape:torment
new vegas

MGS3
Every other answer is just retarded

Because in videogames the "artist" is the player who chooses how to experience the game, while in films/music/literature you get a fixed artistic expression that can’t be changed.

And face it, most people (players) are sub-intelligent brainlets.

MGS3 is literally worst in the series storywise.

MGS2 otherhand is totally unique in medium and there will never be a movie that can replicate it.

LMAO. Genre fiction tier. Planescape is barely deeper than Capeshit

got bored after 30 minutes whats the appeal?

By that you obviously mean found it too hard and didn't know how to progress. There is literally no other reason someone would play bloodborne for the first time and turn it off after 30 minutes.

He cant tell a coherent story without endless exposition. He's not good enough as a writer to even make a flick

Silent hill 2 is pure kino

>MGS3 is literally worst in the series storywise
It's literally the only game other than 1 worth playing for story

>these are the people you share a board with

MGS4 was basically a movie.
also P.T. was utterly terrifying, it might be scarier than any horror movie

>i'm sharing a board with Sup Forums posters

You're part right.
MGS 1 and 2 were very good in their own right. Later he went full Lucas and was worshipped by "yes-men". Most japanese storytellers go way overboard and have no subtlety. MGS1&2 were perfect mix.

>also P.T. was utterly terrifying, it might be scarier than any horror movie

Not a huge mgs fan but that was fucking brilliant. Certainly scarier than any film as an adult anyway.

You cant have Sup Forums without Sup Forums my man

i'd rather just have /t/

Tell me what MGS2 and MGS3 story is about.

When the games being mentioned are mgs, bloodborne and silenthill, then there's nothing wrong with that.

Yes, he is perfect for modern cinema

>higher standards
>Wonder Woman

The Iroquois Pliskin plot hole killed it for me

I bet you like capeshit.

>posts meme emoji twitter shit
stop being underage

I fucking hate capeshit. The only one I've watched in my entire adult hood was the dark knight. Nobody is impressed that you don't like video games. I don't go to Sup Forums either.

I think he wants to blend in movie-like things with gameplay now that he has true creative freedom after leaving Konami.

Yeah we can joke about LOL MGS4 WAS ALREADY A GAME-MOVIE but seriously, there's no reason he can't make a half-movie with good story. Death Stranding already has well known actors in it, no reason why the story AND gameplay can't enchant you into going deeper into the world he created. I don't like that the liberal cuck Del Toro is involved but it should be minimal enough that it won't ruin the experience.

If anything he should direct a CGI movie, maybe even a prequel Death Stranding movie or something. If he wanted to just do movies he would have done so, but I think he really likes video games and wants to push the medium further.

I wish i was you tbhfam

MGS2 is about Raiden, completely irrelevant to the overall storyline.
MGS3 is about why Big Boss formed his own private army/nation after leaving the US army. This would lead to the creation of Zanzibar land and Outer Heaven, and the events of MG1/2, MGS1, Peace Walker and MGS5. Pretty significant.

>higher standards of movies
>two hour toy commercials get 90%+ on RT regularly

Yeah, nah.

justburself

How does vidya directing work? Why are there so few "autuers"? Someone pls explain.

>higher standards of movies

Have you seen a hollywood movie in the past 30 years?

Hideo cannot be trusted to write anything

He doesn't understand the world the way us humans do

he can create story and characters for good movie help with the script and maybe give some ideas while filming but thats about it to be success the movie will need good director and writers he cant direct good movie alone

...

Peacewalker was good because he had to go Lucas 1977 and be constrained by the tech

He should direct porn

Bloodborne

MGS2 is not about Raiden at all. Its about (you). Its about information and war for information. The game predicted modern internet culture and societies within it. The themes in MGS2 are huge and the presentation is unique which can never be achieved through one-way storytelling what cinema is.

3 is about patrionism. Thats the main reason why Boss did what she did and why they had the last nugget of respect to eachother. Too bad Big Boss didnt really evolve as a characterer.

What's the plot hole?

Silent hill 2 is kino, much better than any of the films nolan made

...

based kojimbo

We really need a remake of the orginal metal gear. So much of the outer heaven lore is missing.

thats pretty good for game even for a movie where market is overload with zombies this is pretty original idea

People tried, got the original designer and David Hayter on board before Konami shut them down

>i'm sharing a board with Sup Forums posters

That was for a good reason desu. Snake is supposed to be the ideal, surpassing Raiden in every way. He even has a bigger health bar at the end of the game.

Kojima can edit and direct a mean trailer.
Seriously, as terrible as MGSV ended up, those trailers were fantastic, and Death Stranding has that same quality.

While I do agree that MGS2 did use the medium of gaming unlike any other game, plenty of movies have used postmodern narrative.

>bigger health bar

Yeah, that too

...

>This nigga know whats up
Nolan is shit pleb tier who get anime ideas and present them as original movies..... also he copy pasta whole scenes and cinematography

Silent Hill 2 is pure ART

...

...

...

The Witcher 3/Snake Eater/(havent played bloudbourne but it looks dope)/Darkest Dungeon(imagery/atmosphere/narration)

...

you alright nigga none of this cant even compete

...

...

Stop all the Kornheiser spam.

>Has there truly been a video game that can stand with the likes of lynch, kurosawa, or even kubrick?
No. But the viewer doesn't have any agency in any other format, they're passive experiences, even when it really makes you think, you don't have to do anything besides sit there.
Vidya isn't an art, but it is an avenue for personal agency that by definition is impossible in other mediums.

All wrong

And I can tell you've all only been playing vidya since the Ps2 era at the earliest

The only video game that could be considered "art" or on the same level as those movies you mentioned is Killer 7

There was like a 400 thread about this years ago when Sup Forums and Sup Forums were good

what's his name again? it's something with a K right

>Why are video games held to such a lower standard than film, music, literature, theatre. Etc?
Because it's a worthless medium for children.

>Has there truly been a video game that can stand with the likes of lynch, kurosawa, or even kubrick?
Of course not. Don't be a fucking moron.

...

He can't tell a coherent story at all. The only reason he isn't a laughingstock is that he works in a medium held to lower standards than comic books.

The closest is Ive played is Red Dead Redemption. I don't understand why is it so hard for developers to give their games a cohesive theme that explores and reinforces them. Even MGS games are just the characters outright stating what their characters represent, no subtly.

I feel like Kojima could make a great movie, but he would need guidance. He always gets too blinded by celebrities or distracted by trends/details.
What I like about the man is that he likes everything, though. Nothing is too away from enjoyment for him.

>phoneposter promotes goichi's pretentious le good versus le evil cel shaded short-ass, monotonous and linear game as a masterpiece
You tried, I bet you think MGS2 is about epic memes and not the information age. Just because your game is less famous and a cakewalk doesn't mean it's better. We may be plebs, but you're a poser.

>implying RDR isn't just a bunch of (better) western movies mashed together for an audience that can't tell the difference because they've never seen any westerens because they "don't like old movies"

Kornheiser

holy shit all these ebert wannabes ITT

pls remove your head from your anus, you're unironically comparing apples and oranges for the sake of looking superior on an image board where the most attention your belief will get is a possible agree/disagree from another nobody if you're going to try to discuss the topic legitimately, at least pretend to know what you're talking about, film, video games, or otherwise, because the majority of the posts in here indicate most of you have little to no familiarity with one or the other, when in order to really make your baseless comparisons, you require extensive understanding of both, otherwise you're just being tagged in a circlejerk you willfully engaged in to feel better about your own preferences, which are probably garbage anyway

I find the art of Darkest Dungeon to be as memorable as something like Howls castle. But that might be because I have no nostalgia towards these films unlike the dweebs that say his films are the end all be all of animation

Silent Hill 2 made the best use of the medium. But at the end of the day it's still the lowest form of entertainment, made to keep losers busy.

No, I actually agree with MGS2 being up there too

Not MGS3

people that shit on gaming but praise silent hill 2 are certain to have two qualities
>they've never actually played silent hill 2, and are parroting to sound relevant to the discussion, probably watched a let's play or read the plot on wikipedia
>they've never played anything that wasn't AAA tripe, and so conclude that silent hill 2 must be the end all be all of video game entertainment as a medium
plebs who stick out like a sore thumb desu

It really isn't, like it hops from from being a classic western to a zappata western but its never simply a blatant mashup. Its a silly criticism anyhow as the western genre is very incestuous and some of the best heavily build upon the previous ones. A film equivalent would be something like Indiana Jones or Star Wars, good films that were heavily inspired by serial that most people haven't watched. And there is nothing wrong with that.

>everyone here is dumb but me

You are welcome to join the discussion and actually give us your well researched thoughts

..but that's exactly what i did though

Snake died on the tanker accident 2 years ago

Either that or it'll happen, but it turns out it's just Metal Gear Solid again

your thoughts are dumb.

you can still compare a book and a movie despite being different mediums.

this post is literally the worst in the thread

Absolutely not but some games like Shadow of the Colossus and even Portal 1 can really take advantage of the medium the way movies never could. There's a reason video game films always fail and it's not just incompetence

In terms of a genuinely good story, Red Dead Redemption is probably the best I've played. Some of the Ratchet and Clank titles are Pixar tier too

yes you can, but you're not going to happen upon some massive revelation in doing so, especially if you've only ever scratched the surface of one or the other; like i said, it's just a willful circlejerk of personal validation, not some incredibly intellectual deconstruction of the mediums

visit any
>U GUYZ WHO WULD U CAST IN BLOOD MERIDIAN
thread and you'll see much of the same attitude, only the prejudice will substitute literature for games, music, anime, so on and so forth

literal grade school-tier arguments masquerading as some sort of pseudo intellectual criticism toward something a large portion of the people posting said arguments would openly admit they have what is the equivalent of a drop in a buckets worth of experience with

tl;dr - this shit is stupid, so are you, and so am i for spoonfeeding
