So what's going to happen to Shiro? Is he going to die like the original series? Turn heel when the Galrans get control of him? Be crippled so someone else has to take over? Voluntarily stand down as leader when he realizes he's not fit for it anymore, and trade lions with one of the pilots?
And if he does die will it be in the middle of the show or toward the end? Killed by the bad guys, a teammate, or a sacrifice?

I'd be alright with that. He still has a lot of story left in him what with his amnesia and everything, but after that gets covered I wouldn't mind if he died. I think the effect it'd have on the whole team's dynamic would be really interesting.

He's honestly my least favorite paladin right now. I like him, but he's pretty underwhelming and yet another boring "self doubting leader" type character that we've seen too many times already. Dull as fuck.

I like him mostly because of how he gives gravitas and legitimacy to the enemy. The Alteans are just too cheery, all things considered.

It was only like twice, and the second one doesn't really count because Haggar was actively messing with him.
Putting Allura that close to the action would be a dumb move. If they lost her, the entire team would be royally fucked, pun not intended. Her usefulness in connection to the ship is irreplaceable, while a lost paladin is only a temporary blow backwards because they can be replaced.

Really, the biggest problem with this series is the lack of stakes. The only time we actually see what the Galra Empire are doing is on the Balmera. It's hard to get invested in saving a galaxy neither we nor the team have ever seen.
Also, we're taking the Altean ruler's word that the Altean rule was any more benevolent than the Galran one.

But like you said the Haggar shouldn't count because she was using magic.
All of the paladins look pretty weird honestly.
It wouldn't be Allura, they'd have to do some major asspull to untie her from the Castle Ship
If Shiro does truelly bite the pinnaeple salad stepping up and accepting responsibility and dropping the lone wolf act to rely on other people will be part of Keith's arc
