Why did Cotton hate Hank, but love Bobby?

Why did Cotton hate Hank, but love Bobby?
KotH thread

basically grandparenting 101. you're not responsible for this kid, his parents are. you can contribute, but you don't have to do any of the tough shit. they have to live with his problems, you can just sit back and enjoy the good aspects

Bobby isn't soft like his daddy.

He wanted to ruin Bobby to spite Hank.

Because Bobby isn't afraid to be himself. He's willing to try things and have fun without caring who's watching.
Hank is terrified of disappointing his father and will bend over backwards to meet whatever imaginary expectations he thinks his father has.

So which one is more fun to be around: A guy who's himself or guy who's so terrified of disapproval he doesn't really do anything?

Don't get me wrong, it's all Cottons' fault that Hank is the way he is, but from his generation, he genuinely expected Hank to fight back and be his own man, when Hank just folded; that's when he got disappointed in him.

>Hank is terrified of disappointing his father and will bend over backwards to meet whatever imaginary expectations he thinks his father has.
This. They kinda got wishy-washy with what exactly Cotton wanted, but he did usually like it when Hank got aggressive in retaliation. And he even liked Peggy after she punched him.

Cotton is totally unrestrained and does whatever the hell he wants. Hank is afraid of standing out or expressing himself in any way (this is a result of Cotton's shitty parenting, of course, but naturally Cotton wouldn't accept that). Bobby, rather than being the same as his father, is willing to go his own way and doesn't care what anyone thinks (to an extent).

Cotton likes Bobby because Bobby shares many traits with him, and lacks the dickishness that would make two Cottons want to kill each other.

So who else had a bitch of a time with the Bill run through of this game?

Could be a number of reasons.
Maybe he just didn't feel Bobby's rearing was his responsibility so he didn't have to be a complete hardass on him.
Maybe he just respected Bobby more than Hank. Bobby may be a weird sissy but from what Cotton sees he's a weird Sissy who likes to enjoy himself and isn't afraid to do what he wants. Hank meanwhile has a stick up his urethra.
Or maybe he just resents Hank for being afraid of him. He can't accept the responsibility he was abusive to a baby and scarred Hank to be afraid of him, so he blames Hank. Bobby nor GH are afraid of him so he loves them in return.

Well they do alike

Bobby reminds Cotton of a younger him.

Perhaps Hank irks Cotton as Hank is always getting into Cotton's business. Meanwhile, Bobby has no responsibilities & his concern for his grandfather is more simplified (Bobby gets concerned if Cotton is in pain, but doesn't understand that Cotton is financially not scraping by).

Bobby was his son from when Peggy lusted after him after getting drunk on her wedding night. Cotton just went with it and 9 months later Bobby was born.

You really think Hank's narrow urethra could create a child?

Because Bobby was his Bing Bing and he was Bobby's Bing Bing.

Hank can't be his Hing Hing, that just sounds ridiculous.

>was Bobby's Ging Ging*
sorry need coffee

Only by the miracle of Ladybird.

Hank is a lifelong subservient follower while Bobby is independent.

Same reason Patty & Selma hate Homer but love Bart.

Since when do they love Bart?
They seemed indifferent to the rest of the Family.

>Why did Cotton hate Hank, but love Bobby?

Hank failed to live up to Cotton's unrealistic expectations as his son.

Cotton doesn't appear to have any real expectations for Bobby, so he just loves him as a grandson.

Kind of like how people tend to hold their own parents to a higher set of expectations than they do their grandparents.

>He wanted to ruin Bobby to spite Hank.
Not even close. Cotton admits Hank is a damn better father than he is because he raised Bobby. Cotton's pride was that he killed fifty men and walked on his knees. He thinks the best thing you can do is spit in someone's face who's trying to put you down, even if it's the fucking Emperor of Japan. Hank folds to Cotton but not Bobby, and Bobby continues being himself, and that autonomy is what Cotton admires.

hank was born in new york

I remember the one time Dale died during one of my playthroughs, turned out better than I thought it would at the end.

Pretty much this he loved how Bobby have balls to be himself ad the end of the day without giving a fuck about everybody else, unlike Hank

Hank was responsible for cotton failing to kill castro, and had a narrow urethra and couldn't join the army because of it.

he resented him for it.

There was one episode when he did try to 'shape up' Bobby by taking over a military school but then Bobby wound up 'breaking' Cotton since he took every single torture he could dish out and even managed to go through the one that broke Cotton even longer without breaking.

Peggy and Minh are best girls.

I'd say status quo stuff to be honest. Also there were times where Cotton and Bobby got sick of each others' shit, like when Didi was giving birth or at that army camp.

Stop talking about the ova like it's canon.

No no, you're doin' it wrong. You gotta extend the a that was she knows you're calling for her. Like this. Laaaaaaaaaaaadybiiiiiiiiird.
