Dunkirk 70mm IMAX Print

Hi guys I'm a projectionist for IMAX cinema.

Tested this bad boy out today.

I signed NDA with these things but let me tell you that you guys won't know what hit you with this film.

Beyond best of the year. Don't expect a war film. Much more a thriller. Less dialogue than a Refn film surprisingly. And I can't believe I'm saying this but Harry Styles steals the show.

Is it better than Interstellar or his other stuff?

Based Nolan does it again. Good month for films

>tfw won't be able to see it in IMAX

Hyped anyway

>Less dialogue than a Refn film

Doubt.jpg

>Still falling for the Nolan is good meme

go back to your game of thrones general, redditard

Name 3,8 directors that are better than Nolan

Actually lots of twitter folk that saw advanced screening been saying that there is minimal dialogue.

Nolan has gone full beast mode. Unleashing DUNKINO

>expecting anything more from entry level drones that praise shit like john wick and fincher 2.0
lmao

>Harry Styles
Okay, I'll check his work now. Thanks!

> Less dialogue than a Refn film surprisingly.

How does he get away with it?

Is that an actual IMAX film reel?

How many TB would that be?

Why does Sup Forums love to shit on Nolan but not the endless capeshit garbage or reboots or sequels that gets churned out by hollywood every month?

Big budget sci-fi, practical effects, original storylines, I don't see why you cunts hate him

About .700
thanks yiffy :)

Go back to /r/eddit, Chris. They appreaciate your work far more than this place ever could

>less dialogue than Refn

So is Nolan trying to convert normies? Big gamble.

How big is That shit

that fucking zimmer in imax in the trailer had me feeling severe anxiety, can wait for this one big guys

> .700
that would be 700gb, yo.

That's a big reel

We shit on the endless stream of capeshit all the fucking time user. At a certain point though it's just pissing into the wind; pointless.

Can't wait for his score

>it's a Hans Zimmer ticking clock meme score

I'd rank it above all his work. This is try kino. Not sure how normies are gunna react though. Very experimental filmmaking. And like I said very sparse dialogue. Lots of visual storytelling. Seems Nolan took criticism to heart about his exposition and decided to respond to it.

Running time is roughly 100min including 7min credits. You'll be breathless by end of it.

Whatever you do see it in imax. 2/3 of the film is shot on IMAX (longest Nolan film use yet). Tom Harry plays character Farrier (Air Force). Goddam his scenes are spectacular. Aerial dog fights not seen in Hollywood since the days of Howard Hughes Hell's Angles but in fucking IMAX.

>it's a dumb contrarian frog poster episode

Does the aspect ratio change for the IMAX scenes like in Interstellar? Because that was really jarring

dammit user you have made me unbelievably hyped for this

is it oscar worthy?

Seriously though, that motif is so played out at this point that it's now just distracting and clichéd. Hans Zimmer has been recycling his work for about 10 years

I'm waiting for War for Planet of the Apes.

That was only in the trailers, who said that's the score movie score

I made an educated guess on the basis that film scores are very often used in trailers.

I used to be a projectionist as well. Best job i ever had

I'm a simple man, I see Nolan, I watch Nolan.

Mah nigga, Apes comes out a week earlier tho, so it's gonna be a good 2 weeks

My imax uses drives and files.
It's less magical.

Also you're full of shit. Projectionists don't need to sign NDAs for screening films ahead of time it's part of their job.

Zimmer has toned it down a lot for this film. No big and pounding sounds this time. Similar to that of Jokers theme in dark knight. Ratcheting up the tension. Ticking score from trailer is part of main theme that keeps building up to an incredible crescendo for the films ending climax.

Possibly. But I have a feeling general public are gunna not respond that well to it. Critics and film fans will love it though. Deffo sight and sound top 10 end of year list. Technical oscars for sure.

Mine did. Like you say its unusual but Nolan likes to keep stuff tight from leaking.

Was hoping for a score like The Thin Red Line or The Pacific.

>Harry Styles
lmao

i can't remember the last time i actually went to the theatres to watch a movie. can't even remember the last movie i saw in theatres

do we ever see hardy out of his plane?

any stupid Nolanisms?

is there real blood? or fake pg13 bullshit?

go see this user. you should support any film that holds a middle finger up at hollywood's obsession with niggerwashing and CGI'ing films to death

For digital IMAX films, the film is delivered to cinemas on a hard drive. It's usually 1 to 2 TB, depending on whether it's a 3D film or not.

advance tickets aren't on sale for this at my real IMAX theatre yet.

>roughly 100min

What the fuck is this pleb shit?

Nolan is an abysmal director! Garbage honestly.

This is fucking ludicrous, holy shit

This and Phantom Thread is the only shit I'm seeing this year.

youre all fucking faggots

i'll get the same experience hunched over in my room in the dark watching while wearing headphones

imax is a fucking scam

Some excerpts from an extensive Nolan Dunkirk interview:

>(Smile.) Do not repeat it to the studio: it will be my most experimental film. By far. I preferred to make a sensory, almost experimental movie. Without dialogue. The soldiers have no history - at least I don’t tell it. Most of the crew didn’t understand why I was screening them The Wages of Fear. But it was the one that made the most sense. Which talks about mechanics, procedure and physical difficulties. I rewatched Pickpoket and Un condamné à mort s’est échappé, just for that. Bresson details everything, creates suspense with details.

>[Saving Private] Ryan is a film about the body, blood, fear of being dismembered. Fear is physical. Steven was able to create a visceral intensity of the experience of war. Dunkirk doesn’t play in the same category. It’s a movie with suspense and a race against time.

>It isn’t by accident that Heart of Darkness by Conrad is one of my favorite novels. It’s the purest form of geography and storytelling. Conrad never repeats himself, he sinks gradually into the depths of the human mind. Is it an inward journey or a trip out of oneself ? That’s the real question Conrad is asking. And 2001! And Dante! How to tell the trip ? This is the main question of cinema.

Basically the film is a suspense thriller about transporting a fuckload of people from point A to point B, not about the usual "war is hell" narrative.

Stop spoiling

Saw the trailer before Baby Driver last night and almost had an anxiety attack, I say 'No Thank You' to Dying Inside Submarines: The Movie

I live about 3 hours from the nearest imax

That's probably because you have one of those trash digital LIEMAX theatres in your region that just got the brand IMAX sticked onto them.
You can't replace a 2 ton IMAX analog projector and a 98 feet high screen with your 13 inch Toshiba laptop or the room with perfect acoustic treatment and a sound system with multi-thousand watt amplifiers and speakers even behind the screen which has microscopic holes throughout for the sound to get through with your fucking Skullcandy headphones.

Let me guess:
>muh British sailors saved all the allies
>good ol' Jezza in his fishing boat single-handedly brought home over 9000 brave british soldiers
>muh patriotism, muh queen
>'right ol' matey, let's bring back our boys!'
>'back home for tea and crumpets my lad'

And not a single mention of the French last line of defense as they fought and fought until they ran out of munitions, unable to escape to the beach as they fought to cover the retreat

How is Baby Driver?

You can see the french troops at 1:07 right in the trailer you turboautist

An entire movie on one hard drive, nuts.

jesus why

>actually expecting beta cucks from Sup Forums to go see it in theatre

lol

This.

Most people here will see it when the 700mb screener torrent get's out and watch it with one earbud on while simultaneously browsing Sup Forums and make a thread about it when they are 10 minutes in "wow this is boring".

I remember when I was a projectionist, the middle parts of the film reels would trigger my inner autism and I had to flatten them. See how the inner rings of those reels pop out slightly? Well, I just had to push them back in. One time, I tried actually pulling an inner ring out and ruined the entire reel. It was a reel for Harsh TImes (2005).
My supervisor had watch the entire movie to test if the reel was ok, only to watch the projector stop toward the end of the movie. I think he stayed until 5AM.

...

You sure did user, you sure did

truly will live in the future

see

>reddit driver
>expecting your opinion to be taken seriously

fuck off

I might watch Phantom thread if it releases here

Yep, cinemas get pretty much uncompressed sound and video. A blu-ray already contains a few hundred gigabytes worth of data, and an IMAX projector works with even higher quality.

V good, way 'straighter' than other Wright films - it's nice to see he doesn't totally rely on goofiness, as endearing as Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz were. First film in the states, too, it felt like modern Americana.

>having opinions about media
>reeee

man i really hope nolan has actually made art this time.

I thought IMAX was going all digital?

Could he be the first millennial nu pop star to successfully transition to a real acting career?

I screencap this thread in case you lying.

Actually i really like Nolan and his films but since i heard this will be a p-13 al my hypes were gone. Now you relive it again.

even though OP is a liar I am hyped af for this movie

There are a fair bit of budget digital imaxes just like this user says They are still better than most regular theatres but the experience doesn't even come close to a true analog IMAX, google locations to find if any are near you.

that twink even released his own music a while ago and is getting critical praise left and right, even from the melon man fantano also

harsh bro

Thank you for informing us you're big into gay porn

Good lord Nolan is pretentious. What it's filmed on matters the absolute least of all you hack nigger. Guy can't tell a story visually or otherwise to save his lie.

>modern Americana

That's a really good way to describe it, any other films like that?

I live in Melbourne Australia. We have the third biggest IMAX screen in the world but they switched to full laser digital last year. I'm not going to travel 2000 km to go to the next IMAX, which is in Sydney. I'll just have to get used to mediocrity

yeah a digital ARRI alexa looks the same as an IMAX film camera right lmao

are you retarded? I just said it changes nothing. You can eat the most beautifully decorated piece of actual dog shit you want, in the end it's still shit.

I feel you, in my town the imax is a retrofitted regular theater screen with blurry edges

And yet, here you are.

IMAX Sydney is closed now till 2019. Melbourne are reinstalling their 70mm projector for Dunkirk.

sad.

WTF, why? Doesn't sydney have the biggest IMAX screen in the world? Seems strange to close a business for that long.

image was already posted earlier

sad

Renovations. Yeah, now Melbourne biggest in the world for now

>lets celebrate a movie where the british ran away like cowards while the french died protecting them and the russians 90% of ally fighting

the problem is theres an actual imax screen and projector in my city but they play NatGeo docs all year round with one hollywood/bigger film that changes every two months (it's in a museum, Royal BC Museum if any of you are familiar) , so it wont be in "IMAX" Imax in my city until awhile after the release. and im not gonna wait that long to see it, ill have to go to a regular theatre chains "imax"

that's a big reel

>lets post our anonymous political opinion on a television and film board
