Do you think there should be more homosexual characters in animation?

Do you think there should be more homosexual characters in animation?

No, you are enough homosexual for the world faggot.

There's no arbitrary need for any type of character

People do need to be more receptive to homosexual characters, though.

Yes, but as long as it isn't their primary characteristic.

Post more creepy suzie?

>Namefag calling people fags

Of course not you fuckin dingdong. Why would you force the issue of sexuality into such a broad conceptual category with no context.

If you said specifically in animation where the setting is supposed to reflect reality I would say yes, there should be homosexual characters with the same frequency there are homosexuals in real life.

In all other cases no, you should not force some arbitrary shit related to human sexuality into every conceivable setting.

no, I think there should be more queer animation

>can't have a flamboyant gay character because that's offensive even though its inspired from real life

AD does it alright though.

You mean "should there be more homosexual characters in animation who announce in a clear and loud voice that they are homosexual".

Hypothetically, any character that does not announce their sexual preference could be gay.

Does sexuality really deserve a prominent place in animation, a genre still mainly aimed at children? The little fuckers have their entire adult lives to worry about it. Let them play with Transformers and Barbies for a bit longer, please.

Who fucking cares? If a character is gay, he's gay. Whatever. It doesn't matter at all as long as you don't throw it in our faces every time he open his mouth.

Nic waifu btw

>don't throw it in our faces every time he open his mouth

Phrasing!

The issue isn't really "there aren't enough gay characters x percentage of characters should be gay", you're right it often has nothing to do with characters, oftentimes their sexuality has nothing to do with the plot. The issue is "of characters who do express their sexuality, not enough of them are gay". If a character's sexuality doesn't effect the story, it doesn't need to be brought up. But there are a massive amount of openly heterosexual characters out there, who's heterosexuality is a plot point, and comparatively not enough gay characters.

That's like trying to fix a flood by shooting lots of fire at it. There is too much romance and sex shoehorned into every piece of shit story as it is. The excess shouldn't be matched with the opposite excess it should be cut back and balanced.

>comparatively not enough gay characters.

But does that come out, statistically?

Steven Universe has more than enough

One-and-half arguably gay relationships.

Fuck off, homophobe.

English is not my first language, sorry.
This.

No. If it was accurately representing the population there wouldn't be as many homosexuals or minorities.

It's funny because it extends to the government. There is a proportionally high number of black people in government and law enforcement positions.

But remember, the world is ruled by racist old white people. Obviously the disproportionate amount of rich, powerful, and famous homosexuals and blacks is some kind of fale flag plot to spread aids and crack cocaine.

If they're gay for the sake of being gay, no.

If they're gay because its Allyson Hannigan and three seasons of watching her hop on Tara is in no way enough, sure.

Really, I just roll a d10 for characters. 1 is gay, 2 is bi, 3-10 is straight. Unless they need a certain sexuality for the story, that's what I go with. I know its not terribly accurate, but its simple enough to work with and doesn't result in oversaturation of non-het characters which is somewhat immersion breaking unless there's a reason for it.

This. Don't hide the fact that they're dating another girl/boy but don't make it everything about them.

more gay

Diversity in cartoons is pretty important. Kids need to see characters they identify with. So I think there should be a few heterosexual cartoon characters

Even if it's not something they identify with, it's important that they see lgbt types presented normally. Otherwise they'd only learn about them from porn or bigots.

...

What kids need is not being constantly taught that they may only "identify" with people who resemble themselves as much as possible.

That's not something taught but natural. Every kid has idols and role models they copy before growing up enough to make their own mind on things.

It's a currently popular idea that people need characters who are like themselves so that they may successfully "identify" with them, and doubtlessly kids are being taught the same thing.

I remember this story from a while ago where someone romhacked Donkey Kong or Zelda or some other old game and made the player character female so his daughter could play it. I'm sure she won't grow up to be a fucked in the head narcissist.

>fag calling fags fags
Ishiggydiggy, faggot fags

No, there should be none. Animation is for children, keep it that way, weirdo

Animation is for everyone.

>Won't somebody please think of the children
Your somehow worse then the tumblrfags.

I think there's a good amount, pretty representative of the real population (what is it, like 5% irl?). Lesbians might actually be over-represented because of fetish pandering.

I like pic related, for instance.

The whole representation argument is dumb since it 1. Just puts in place a quota system and 2. Raises the question, what are we counting? Overall Media? This show in particular? What?
Ray also seemed pretty weak this season.
I guess we passed the area of him being a pretty good character, he seems to be falling back into "Mincy gay guy" again. Like his only memorable joke last season was he dressed up like a leather daddy because he had the costume and there were bikers about.

Statistically, there's a bigger chance you'll be lefthanded than gay yet you don't see lefthanded people bitch and moan about lack of representation in media.

I wonder why that is.

Most characters are ambidextrous.

Eh, I haven't watched much of this season yet so that might be the case. Anyway I was probably just trying to put an objective reason to my feeling like we've got enough gay characters, but I'm straight so what do I know.

Since homosexuality is degenerate it makes sense that only villains should be homosexual. So long as they continually get punched in the face, it should be fine. Perhaps the hero attempts to cure the villain's homosexuality.

That's just because it's easier for the animators to not think about it.

Ow, I think I cut myself on this post.

...

wait arent most artists/animators left handed?

the best ones were left handed as well. esplain that

Why would most of them be left-handed?

>completely missing the point this hard

#triggered

>Your somehow worse then the tumblrfags.
That's because they actively and consciously try to be. They think it's "ironic" that their favorite stereotypes are also their favorite tactics.

fags don't deserve representation

This, basically.

In ascending order of shittyness
>General homophobes
>Tumblrfags
>Won't somebody please think of the children

This is an 18+ site.

But user(s), you are the faggots.

Kill yourself my nigga!!

Needs more paedophiles, necrophiles, zoophiles, dendrophiles, etc.

Yeah, so leave.
If I were, I would cure myself.
These people are far less represented, so why aren't more people advocating for them?

Why?
What's the context for putting more in there?
If the only reason is because you want more, then fuck no.
People called me fucking crazy when I said that this shit was being normalized, even though I don't give a shit what people do with their lives. Just don't make my kids fags.

>"Stop talking like a child"
>"no u! lol"

No not particularly. And if someone says something would be better if only there where more gays in it I dont believe I would value their opinion very highly

Any trait of a character should be put to make it more interesting. If homosexuality is going to make that character better somehow for the show, it absolutely should be used. What you should NOT do is to put homosexuality and completely ignore it; it should be part of that character.

Old cartoons do that very well. It may look stereotypical, but that is what made some of those characters famous, and created good interactions during the show. And i should add: the same goes for heterosexuality. If it's there, use it.

what's wrong with learning about them from porn?

But none of that was ever said. You need some medication? You're making up conversations that never happened.

stop replying you idiots

If there were to be more gay characters in animation. they should make new characters who just happen to be gay, instead of taking existing characters and making them suddenly gay if they showed no inclination towards that life.

...That said, i don't think homosexuality should be touched in-depth in a kid's show. It runs the risk of showing half of the truth. Many shows make the mistake of trying to show homosexuality as something normal, or even that you should be proud of. That's clearly not how it works in real life and it fails to show how dangerous it could be. Something as little as your sexuality could get you bullied, out of a job, or worst. It's the truth that they fail to discuss when they throw glitter on the subject.

This isn't your capecomics.

If it's not normalized then it'll just be an endless cycle. And the negative responses to it of yours will continue.

I don't want homosexual characters. I want characters that are homosexuals. Same goes for heterosexual, black, white and what have you.

Because it focus on just the sex part and makes it seem like a lewd fetish, instead of gay couples doing everyday things together.

Why don't you want your nonexistent kids to be gay? If you don't give a shit what people do with their lives, wouldn't your kids have their own lives too?

Well put.

Sorry Professor. I assumed an intelligent man such as you could read context.

You ever notice nobody started making this argument until people wanted to not make 99.5% of characters white guys?

There is no reason at all. It's just for fetish purposes or SJW liberal points.

Yea, without progressive homosexual characters how can I even justify watching a cartoon?

I fucking love this show.

Should? No. There is no moral obligation to it.

But they'd be a welcome change of pace. Too bad Western people are incapable of promoting diversity without going full tumblr.

Homosexuality is normal though. It's been shown throughout human history and scientifically proven to be something genetic. It's always been there but hidden because of various religious nuts hounding people for it.

Now that society is finally growing up and people can be open about it, gay couples are a reality you'll have to face and kids have to learn about. Burying your head in the sand over your grandpa's moral, is plain childish.

As a gay dude, just give me a good action cartoon with a good MC with flaws who happens to be gay.

Fuck, just give me more good action cartoons. I think there should be more desire and demand to improve the quality of western cartoons for older age groups, rather than thinking about how to pander to homosexuals.

I still want some good gay characters, but it definitely shouldn't be a priority right now.

As long as they're cute girls

The same people that argue this also tend to argue that Link should stay a dude because else they couldn't empathize with him.

There's nothing wrong with well written black/gay/girl/etc. characters, as long as they're written well. It's not like white guys can't be written badly.

Exactly. You identify with the character of a person, not his race. RIP MLK.

Yes, but we've gotten it into our heads that when anyone but a white male character is badly written, it's because they weren't a white male character.

>aligning yourself with MLK to try and make yourself look better

There are Fox News commentators less obnoxiously alt-right than you right now.

This a thousand times. Making a character trait
>They're gay
is pretty bland. Make characters that are homosexual, but don't focus on that. It's lazy writing.

So thread consensus:
>No to 'gay characters'
>Yes to characters who are gay
>People who say it's shouldn't be shown or encouraged are edgy teenagers.

yes and they should retcon existing characters to be gay as well, I mean come on, it's current year

I'm literally saying what he said. To be judged by the content of their character?

Well, if their sexualities weren't established, why not?

that picture never fails to give me an erection, and i don't know why

Do you think they were handled well?

>Perhaps the hero attempts to cure the villain's homosexuality
It's been done before.

It's also been retconned to nazi zombies(or zazi nombies as he calls them)

Kat is pretty cool, but her girlfriend doesn't do much outside of being her girlfriend. Though honestly, I think this can be forgiven. Gunnerkrigg is Annie's story, and kats gf isn't really a big part of her life outside of her dating kat.

I think sexuality should be handled better in a general sense. Actual relationships shouldn't be reserved for the fucking denouement as often as they are, for example. There should also be a lot more of people starting in relationships, breaking up, or just letting it drop when the other party isn't interested. Or rather, I'd like the variety. The standard operating procedure was fine when I first watched Hey Arnold. It's probably fine for the kids today who don't know any better than I did.

Also the answer to your question depends a lot on how you want queer shit handled. Like how explicitly does the text of the show have to call them gay? Does meta shit like designing a character to resemble a queer person count? Do they have to be portrayed positively? Do Bugs and Elmer count? Genie? Ursula? Roger from AD?

I think the issue probably lies less with the count and more with the handling.

What? By adding another fucking chapter of shit that didn't advance the main plot, so that we could change the relationship status of a nobody who gets like zero screen time before or after? No.

Sure. As long as they're gay because of a character trait and not just because you want to make more gay people. It's VERY obvious when poeple make a character that is gay vs. Make a gay character.

then discuss the issue like it's an actual issue instead of sugar-coating it. Simply putting homosexual characters like something normal won't do shit; it will just make kids struggling with their sexuality think they can be open about it without any repercussion, which is not true.

>Homosexuality is normal though
statistically speaking it's not normal, but that's not the point.

> scientifically proven to be something genetic
citation, please?

>Now that society is finally growing up and people can be open about it
You can by your own choice be open about it and suffer any repercussion. What you shouldn't do is force that on a kid. Should i remind you that gays are still being killed based on their orientation? If you actually talk about those issues in a cartoon, it's fine. If you ignore it and treat as nonexistent, it's not.

Thanks for the help, tumblr.
>if you don't share my opinion you're wrong!!

Well, of course you're wrong for disagreeing with me. After all, my opinion is correct.

A gay character is not a good idea. A character that happens to be gay is more acceptable.

Neither are good.

Gay acceptance was a mistake.
