I can never understand why Californians in general play and dance around the idea of secession even if it's from themselves. First there was the five or six California proposal that would have split the state up into several states within the union. Then there was a full blown secession from the union brought up. Now there is this New California shit and contrary to what this map may imply. New California would have taken up the entire state as displayed here in blue not yellow. The yellow portion of the map would be the old California. So they didn't exclude Orange County since that would have came along with the new state. Just wanted to clear up any misconceptions because I could see why many would have thought that the yellow was the state of New California when really it is the blue portion.

You act like this is a popular, or well-known concept.
It's not.
You're on the internet, and not here, and are prone to get triggered by anything about this state.
its like the state of Pennsylvanian dictating the laws of Georgia or south Carolina. Too many conflicting interests over so much land.
I remember when the conservatives in the area known as Jefferson (Southern Oregon and North California) wanted to create a new state. It would be nice to see more states that split apart.
I wish they'd stop blue balling everyone and just fucking go already.
This was on my local news, bud.
Even within the proposed state of jefferson (which I am), almost no one thought of it as anything more than a fanciful idea/rabble-rousing
Who actually wanted that union secession (Calexit)? I know it was the coastal liberals last time because of hurr #notmypresident, but I heard that it was previously the conservative farmers that wanted to depart the union. So why not come to terms and comprise together to perhaps construct your own nation or is this polarization due to identity politics too strong for even California?
Republicans want to gerrymander.
Even if the conservatives get their way, the Mexicans especially the illegal immigrants will hate this because they want California to remain a sanctuary state.
Because everyone loves to talk about California.
Nothing new.
>local news
>look at this/panda/penguin/polar bear/cute kid
My local news was a California station, though. I reside in San Bernardino county which would, according to the map, place me in New California.
Uhh, who gets to govern over those islands? They are neither yellow or blue. I thought California had governance over them.
could California survive as an independent state?
they are reliant on a lot of water and other resources from nearby areas, but they also have a lot of intellectual capital and financial power plus one of the largest ports on earth
I saw a article where a venture capitalist wants to split up the state, but it failed to go on the ballet, so they have to prove they can govern themselves before they can truly govern themselves. It may take a long time before it goes on the ballet again.
Simple fact is that the fresh water "New California" heavily depends upon comes largely from the Sierras in "Old California".
Surely it could be purchased, but at a great cost.
I'm not saying it's logically impossible, but the facts on the ground prevent it within the near future, at least.
But "New California" is closer to the Sierra Nevadas so wouldn't it be "Old California" that would be dependent upon them?
I thought new cali was the blue one?
You're right.
Had my wires crossed.
New California didn't even have the courtesy of leaving Old California with San Diego where a lot of water treatment plants are. lol
Seems counter-intuitive that "New California" is the conservative, poorer part of the state.
Was the same with jefferson.
Like I said, no one here in "New California" (corrected) takes it seriously enough to move beyond a point of conversation.
Is it more likely that California as a whole secedes from the Union than a split?
>much more likely=zero
>less than zero
Yes.
Err
>more likely=zero
didn't mean to misquote.
Neither will happen barring anything absolutely insane HAPPENING.
>San Diego, Chile
Fuck me, I had no idea California was that big.
This ironically has the potential to create another blue state since most of the population is still in the liberal coastline and the central valley has too many mexican farmers that would vote against Trump
Look at a county voting map, ffs.
huge like xbox
I guess that would make New California the original Duke and Old California the 360 controller.
¿Qué?
Isn't this just a symptom of greater political crisis in US? What you need isn't more states but more political parties in a new political system. There's lots of space between the current Gop and Dems.
