Tickets are too expensive, food is too expensive, movies are shitty sequels

>tickets too expensive
Guess this meme will never die

Combine ticket + popcorn and a beverage for two people and you're at roughly $50 at most theatres. That's a big price to pay for what's most likely a mediocre movie, as 95% of movies today seem to be

Where I live tickets are $10-$12 a person unless it's some stupid Imax or 3d shit that I don't even care about but the fucking assholes are only playing that specific movie on that screen, so then it's $15-$20 a ticket.

Not all of us live in some rural farm land were everything is (relatively) cheap

>movies are shitty sequels
This sort of. There were eight trailer before Baby Driver, and every one of them was a sequel, adaptation, or remake. I pretty much only pay to see something new, which means I only get out to a few movies a year.

I'd be willing to pay 5$ for a movie ticket.
why ever go to the theater when I can just wait like 6 months and watch it for free or under 5$?
what kind of loser honestly pays extra just to see some hollywood schlock slightly early?

Penis inspections are too demanding.

because people are pigs and make every session a terrible experience

People don't wanna deal with cunts. I saw Baby Driver tonight and a bunch of inbred travellers starting acting up when they realised it wasn't a dumb racing movie.

$12 ticket
$8 soda
$10 popcorn
$5-7 candy

If it has food and booze then every item will be a minimum of twelve dollars as well. I'm not complaining I know you only ever need to get the ticket but for the whole experience it gets pricey.

Millenials don't go to the theatres as much.

movies in theaters have to compete with

>every movie, documentary, and tv show available on some streaming service
>youtube
>porn
>video games
>books (yeah right)

there's so many ways to entertain yourself at home now, people only care if they hear the movie is really good.

White people with money stopped going and the poor democrats can't afford to go

because the prices are going up and the quality of films isn't

who knew that jacking the rates you pay to sit in a shitty chair and watch a movie while charging people restaurant entree prices for popcorn/candy/soda combos was a bad business strategy?!

where I live it's ~£12 (which is like ~$18) for a ticket
in my uni city, which I've just left, it was £5

At uni, I started going more and more frequently to the cinema each year. Now that I've finished, between finding new friends to go with and the insane prices, I'll be surprised if I go more than 3 times a year

>why aren't people going to theaters anymore?
b-but i havent left my kinocenter for 3 years ever since i failed penis inspection

>$12 ticket
>$8 soda
>$10 popcorn
>$5-7 candy
>why wont they support my diabetis?!

Movies now are shit in general so people do something else in their free time

>Baby Driver
You paid to see this bullshit, why?

i want to pay $10+ for a ticket so i can sit in a theatre with sticky floors and a bunch of advertisements before the trailers (when did this become a thing?) rather than download the movie for free and watch it at home on a projector. sure.

Because it looked good, and it was. I went back the next day to see it again with my family.

I was just listing the prices at my theater dude no reason to attack me. But if you go on a date and get two drinks and a popcorn it's going to be about fifty dollars like a previous user said.

Over $13 for a ticket on a regular screen. If they're only showing it in 3D and only show it in the reserved seating theatres, then it gets to nearly $20 per ticket. Why would I pay that much money and time to be stuck in a theatre filled with inconsiderate plebs with no sense of etiquette who talk and use their distractingly bright phones throughout the movie?

Robert said management has banned falcons and ferrets, so I'm effectively banned because I don't go anywhere without Gordon and Samuel

movies are bad
attendees are bad

Because most movies today suck and tickets are too pricey. Why should I pay for a $10 movie ticket, waste gas money, be in a obnoxious crowd of people, and possibly see a bad movie, when instead, I could stay at home with my family and order a bluray for a movie online for $5, get it shipped to me in a day or so, and I get to keep that movie forever?

for me it's the fucking autistic audience who laughs at every little side joke when in its actual context it's just a normal conversation, like dear god I can't even go to a hero flick without hearing an audience burst over a tiny quip, but for films from A24 I always get pre-opening night tickets

>I was just listing the prices at my theater dude no reason to attack me.
i was just shittalking mate. its Sup Forums, why do you get offended?

I'm fat and defensive.

That is a complete exaggeration. $25 maybe

Watching anything but comedy at the theaters completely wrecks the atmosphere and immersion

I don't care about the price (ticket is only about $7 and I don't buy food there because I'm not a fat shit) but I've just had no particular reason to go lately due to the horrid quality of films this year

Seriously, has any movie been worth going to this year other than like Logan?

Both Get Out and Baby Driver were worth seeing in theaters for me

These guys get it

imagine sitting there festering in the alleviation of your white guilt by going to see a film made by a nigger
then you went home and insisted it was a masterpiece to garner yourself more social capital with the zeitgeist
you people make me sick

tbf I am considering seeing Baby Driver

imagine being so caught up in identity politics that you can't appreciate a fun thriller just because it was made by a black guy

>agendas
>shit writing
>formulaic direction/casting/production

movie theaters are stuck in the past

imax needs to quadruple in size and become standards

this is america... something is stale? make it bigger. grander. it works every time

If you don't think movie theaters are changing, you're no paying attention. The winning formula seems to be the Alamo Drafthouse style, and they're starting to spread pretty quickly.

>fun thriller
>Fun. Thriller.

Thrillers aren't fun. Never speak t me again, pleb.

>Tell me Sup Forums, why aren't people going to theaters anymore?
They are, but those people are Chinese

literally my theater, i still go but only early showings when no one's there

>According to Lomax, he was at the movie with his girlfriend and her three teenagers, enjoying the film and laughing, when a man in front of him -- not Cialella -- told him to quiet down.

>"We can't laugh?" Lomax recalled asking.

>A second man threw popcorn at the family, and a brawl ensued.

>Lomax said he was fighting with the first man when the second man pulled out a gun and fired, striking him in the left arm.

>A defense lawyer argued that Cialella was being choked and punched as he tried to break up the fight and fired in self-defense.

>"He's a marksman," lawyer Greg Pagano said. "If he wanted to shoot to kill, he would have."

>Tell me Sup Forums, why aren't people going to theaters anymore?

They raised the prices AND started showing shitty advertisements

Cause it costs 80 fucking dollars to take a family of four to see one fucking movie.

Or redbox, or on demand, or Netflix, or premium cable on a nice sized tv in the comfort of your own home where you can sprawl out in you Undies on the couch and safely pause to jerk off to porn on your phone then restart the movie so you can get through the sexy scenes.

Because I hate bed bugs.

/thread

Same reason malls died. They're full of fat minorities.

$32 for 2 tickets at my nearest theater now. fuck that.

i'd rather wait a few months and watch on a streaming service for the monthly fee or 3.99 or whatever it is now typically to rent

>tfw $5 matinees on Tuesdays

It is getting expensive, but normies in general are just fucking casuals.

>A24
I need more faggot friends like you.

I wonder if I'm 1000 years we will live in a society where no one will have to leave their homes except for maybe going to the hospital.

>work from home
>deliver everything to home
>media from home
>vacation from home (VR)

>make movies for china
>surprised non chinese aren't watching

I'm so excited for A Ghost Story

Also big screen TVs got cheaper along with decent speakers. I buy movies from pawn shops for two dollars each. If I want to see something newer I go to Ebay. For the price of going to a theater I can get twenty movies.

I don't think that will ever fully happen, but there's no doubt the current generation is staying inside a lot more

>black people
>teenagers
>the drive there
>the money spent
>the comfort lost

p i r a t e
e v e r y t h i n g

i stopped going because people are so fucking annoying in theaters these days. talking, texting, etc. not just niggers either, even white people are being awful too.

People don't want to pay a not-insignificant amount of money to see a shitty movie.

That's what Disney has figured out: you don't have to always make great movies, just get people to trust that you won't make a shitty one.

The majority of people have a big screen TV with Netflix or some other streaming service at home. Cinema will go the same way as Blockbuster in less than 20 years

The China audience is all Hollywood cares about

Just like radio died, right?

I'm sure all these safe reboots are pleasing the illiterate Chinese fucks whom comprise the target audience for them.

Because of black people, the last 6 times I went to the movies there's been a rude big behind me talking like we are in their fucking living room. If the theater can't control that then I'm not going anymore

Free radio technically has.

It was also so obscure from the start that I can't even google it to find out what the fuck you're talking about.

pretty much this.

I have a shitton of stuff in my backlog of vydia, movies and chinese cartoons, I'll only go to the theatre if the movie has great word of mouth.

You can't compare the two
Radios stations are still around because they're built into cars. Also podcasts have gradually replaced FM radio

There's no desire to go to a movie theater the same way people buy shit online in the comfort of their home rather than at a mall

I'm doing my part. I got to any classic movie playing near me and the occasional new one that looks good. No indie/art theaters near me since I stopped traveling unfortunately. I go to most of the TCM Fathom events, local normies don't seem to know/give a shit about them though. Godfather had a good showing but it was the exception.

The big screen/theater sound system is definitely the way to watch a movie if you care about movies. But they need to figure out their business model and rein in the behavior of the audience. "Fancy" chains like Alamo seem to be doing well.

Also, the endless bland trash may be wearing out the audience. I got sick of the capeshit after about 6 of them but the normies may be starting to hit that threshold finally. Maybe it'll lead to something good.

It's a better comparison than fucking rentals, which aren't even actually dead yet

>$22 a ticket
>Movies are terrible sequels
Gee, I dunno, OP. Maybe it's the uncultured plebs ruining the industry.

Ticket price with food price kind of high for 90-140 minutes. Maybe if they had more deals? It's rare, but double features do happen, and most chains have a cheap ticket day, usually Tuesday.

But the supervast majority of people go on Friday and Saturday nights, when tickets cost at least $12, compared to the $8 on weekdays. I think concession prices should scale the way tickets do, be cheaper when the demand is lower, thus drawing more people at dead hours.

garbage scripts in the likes of Kong, King Arthur, Transformers

Streaming services killed rental stores because people could save movie watching movies online rather than paying $6 to rent a movie.
Same thing with movie theatres since they overcharge people for fucking everything

If you can do it, always go on weekdays. Thinner crowd and cheaper tickets. Also learn to theater hop, theatertag.com/ does it for you. If you're going to take your ass to the theater, you might as well see two movies.

Just like streaming service killed radio, right? Like I said, your analogy is shit, rental stores were literally about watching from home from the beginning, and they aren't even actually dead. Family Video and Red Box are still kicking. You're fucking retarded

because movies now are all fucking garbage. if you spew out garbage after garbage and just pay rottentomatoes for a good score, eventually the public will take notice.

Because they're out on dvd and digital mere months after theaters. There was a time where movies came out for home over a year after theaters - if at all.

Most folks have become too obsessed with politics. Can't watch a movie if you're literally shaking.

Because all the films have been garbage. Capeshit is getting high critic scores simply by being passable and coherent. Thank fuck for Apes

I assume anybody ITT thinking of going to Black Panther is going on a Wednesday afternoon ? hooting and hollering niggers are bad enough already. They're going to be insufferable for BP

can you shills please stay in Sup Forums ty

It cost me and my brother 30 dollars to watch Guardians Vol 2 last week. No drinks. No pop corn. Add those in and it would have been fifty bucks.

>most movies are sequels
>most are plain bad
>diversity casting
>high ticket prices
I'd rather get some games on the steam sale than go watch Raimi's worst nightmare

Where I live, tickets are $17 each, $16 if you are a rewards member. I get them for $10 because I work in the same building.
The combo that my girlfriend and I buy (One large popcorn and two large drinks) is $14.

So for your average couple to go to the movies and get a drink each and share a popcorn is USD$48.

It's a legitimate answer to the question asked you low IQ faggot.

actually the film's whole point was a hyperbolic satire of the fashionable liberal fetishization of black people. and how that even if people are trying to spread a 'positive' message about black people that it's ultimately still racist

but what do you care, you just want an excuse to shit on something

Because movies cost more to see than they are worth.

Funny how in the old days going to the movies only cost a dime, but the studios still made millions at those prices.

Fuckin jews are their own worst enemy.

a few things pop to mind
>no crab legs at the snack bar
>no singles policies

The movie was identity politics from start to finish, it was fucking cringeworthy.

All the movies coming out are rehashed capeshit or dumb boreflicks.

Like I can barely think of any movies I want to see. Babydriver I guess, Bladerunner just because I feel I have to, not because I really want to. Star Wars likewise.

Where are the interesting movies?

>$21 a ticket
>full of minorities
why would i do this instead of streaming at home

>no complementary butter for crabs legs anymore
dropped

soundcloud.com/lazerbird-98477393/afternoon-at-the-kinoplex

I spent $28 on 2 tickets to see Despicable Me 3.

$14 per ticket. Fuck that

>shitty chair

I beg to differ the seats are pretty nice at my local theaters they also have assigned seating but they are recliners. They also have these big as dividers that make the theater feel more private and over all smaller as you can't see other rows. That being said these seats kinda suck if you're not in the back wet petting your high school ex or with a group of friends. As people are all in your personal space but with 2-4 people they're coz going alone it sucks.

This is a small minority no one cares about. Most people do not want to black. But a huge number of people want to be white (especially rich black people). They should have switched races. Then it would actually make sense

>libtard in tears

>live in Spain and consequently be poor
>I still paid 9 (nueve) € for Alien Covenant and Guardians of the Galaxy 2
>both movies fucking sucked
Gee it's a mistery why this industry is dying!
