I was 14 in the early 2000's. Socially, it was a much more carefree world. They were good times. By 2008 things started to change for the worse though.

All the things that were available back then in terms of entertainment are all available now, thus making this era better by default. Something like IPhone 7 would have only been available to a few rich people back then haha, now everyone and their mother can have one.

The early 2000s and 00's in general were a time of unprecedented mediocrity. I understand why some who didn't actually grow up then might think things were better, but they weren't.
The 00's were striving to be exactly where we are now, albeit for a less jaded population. We have solid technical and artistic methods built up through so many years of striving to be more technical and more artistic.

BUT young people probably don't realize how shitty some stuff was back then, ie the Half Life 2 launch day. Endless bug list on most PC games. Good porn and good hentai were insanely hard to find. Buying magazines to find good informations about upcoming games. Dial up modems. Stuff like that.
