Who the fuck cares? They were robots that changed into cars to sell toys to kids. Why does it matter?

>They were robots that changed into cars to sell toys to kids. Why does it matter?

Because in later episodes it's explained that only Decepticons have flying technology and the Autobots never fly?

>Hurr durr it had toys so it doesn't count
This mentality is fucking stupid, the only reason the shows you watch don't have toys is because nobody would buy them...otherwise it would, and likely also why your shitty show will be cancelled quickly.

No you're fucking stupid for caring about something as dumb as "Why did the robots fly" in a cartoon from 30 years ago Is this really what we're going to waste our lives talking about? Pointless bullshit that has no real answer?

But they made it a point that Optimus had to use Sideswipe's jetpack to fly.

time code me bro i'm rewatching episode one now.

That is literally all we do on this board.

>you're dumb for caring about fiction

Get the fuck off this board faggot.

I don't know, in one of the first three episodes (2 I think, could be wrong) the Autobots all fly....another part I believe Ironhide and Bumblebee both fly

Details are a little hazy cause I'm a drunk, but I'm watching these episodes right now for the first time in forever and just noticed this

nm I found it, it's about 20:10 in
dailymotion.com/video/xj5iak_the-transformers-g1-s01e01-more-than-meets-the-eye-part-1_shortfilms

I would say they jumped and are falling but Arc is imbedded in a mountain, so I think it's just meant to be overlooked so the autobots can get to were the decepticons are.

You can care about fiction. But caring about something so superficial is retarded

Because the concept wasn't fleshed out in the beginning and then they decided to change it since cars don't fly but planes do.

>But caring about something so superficial is retarded

Yeah ok. You make no sense. If Batman randomly could shoot lasers from his eyes and someone asked why he never had that power again I guess it'd be superficial cause you know....itz all just dumb shyt for kidz y u curr lolololol

Yeah that's one part, but there are more explicit ones in part 2 I think it was, like they fly into the Decepticon base and remain in mid air till Megatron shoots at them and then theres another part where Bumblebee and Ironhide I think fly over a valley or some crap

The straight answer is because it's a childrens cartoon so it doesn't have to make sense. If that's for some autistic reason unacceptable to you then there's this : the autobots, being derived from a slave class model of robots, had limited flight capabilities that ran on a powersource called bullshitium, and the decepticons, being derived from a warrior class line of robots, had their flight capabilities fueled directly by energon. As time on earth went on the autobots found they can't renew their bullshitium so they just had to roll out.

Is this canon or did you just make it up?

It's as canon as my birthday is on April 31.

From the TFwiki

Robot mode flight powers are an innovative power that allows Transformers without a flight-based alternate mode to fly while in robot mode. The Decepticons make good use of this power.

Sometimes the Autobots have them....sometimes they don't. Most often they display them early in Season 1 of the US cartoon, particularly the pilot. It is uncertain if they require external equipment to fly; several times the Autobots use strap-on jet packs or rocket packs, but sometimes they don't.

Robot mode flight was prevalent in the post-movie episodes, in which the focus was shifted to space. Although some characters could not fly under the influence of a planet's gravity, everyone seemed to possess the power of flight in deep space.

>bullshitium

I shouldn't have found that as funny as I did.

The only real answer is: inconsistent writing.

That fucking Prowl.

pretty much.

Rather have inconsistent writing than the bad writing of newer stories.

The comics or the show?
Or both, I dropped the show and the comics, so I don't know

>Bullshitium
What the fuck do you think?

I heard they wanted to make the show more grounded

What did Shockwave do for 4 million years?

Fuck you

The first three episodes were made indepently from the rest of the series, so they were still figuring out things.

After the show started proper, they realized that if they limited which autobots could actually fly, it gave them a better reason as to why they couldn't just fly after the Decepticons/wherever they needed to be etc.

The show would TEND to stick to autobots whose bios did mention they were flight capable, (Wheeljack, Gears, etc).

Humorously, Sideswipe is never seen airborne again after Optimus borrows his Rocket pack in the pilot.

It's more akin to the fact that Batman used guns in his first appearances but had a no gun rule for most of his existence.

All you can do is say "they just hadn't thought of it yet" and move on.

Edge

He just stood there and waited because Shockwave is a good little bitch.

Drains the battery.

Why did the Autobots drive to the Arctic to dig up Jetfire to fly them to South America?

Why did they leave Jetfire buried if it was so easy to dig him up?

youtube.com/watch?v=bXtEdUmwH3A

Is there anything more satisfying than seeing Starscream get his shit pushed in?

They weighed it against driving through Mexico and decided it was worth the effort to avoid the pollution

Nothing will ever top Galvatron building a working laser pistol in an arts and craft class.

why did Jetfire ended up getting forgotten not even halfway through Season 2?

why is every other Jetfire better than G1?

Poor Jetfire. Got buried in ice for millions of years. Then we he's rescued his best buddy Starscream turned into an asshole and backstabs him. Then he gets buried in the ice again and the autobots decide fuck it and leave. When they need him the autobots finally get around to digging him out.. They just use him a few times and he's forgotten about.

>why did Jetfire ended up getting forgotten not even halfway through Season 2?
Powerglide. Who in turn was forgotten for Cosmos and Omega Supreme.

Wasn't there an episode in which Ironhide flies after retreating Decepticons but Optimus tries to stop him because Autobots are just not as fast/good at flying as them?

>This is what geewuners actually goddamn believe.

>Hello, this is Cybertron command, May I take you order please?
>M... Megatron?? Primus, it's been four million years!!

Well, later jetfires were made after the original Jetfire got legendary status in the fandom. Like, for years between G1 and Armada, when there was relatively little fiction, people would gush over the G1 toy,and talk about the murky legalities of the skyfire situation. So when G1 got a semi-reboot in Armada, he was one of the first to get updated.

I'd go with convenience, by the time the Autobots drove to where the Decepticons were causing whatever havoc they were they'd have long since finished & flown off

It still blows me away that there was absolutely no Bumblebee for twenty years and now and bow you can't swing a cat without hitting one.

>murky legalities of the Skyfire situation
What was that about, exactly? I remember something along the lines that Skyfire's original toy was a straight up VF-1 from Macross.

Early Installment Weirdness

Like how everyone called Cheetor "Cheeter" during the first episodes of Beast Wars.

That's what happens when you don't hold onto name rights for toy production.

They couldn't even if they wanted to, they didn't have the trademark.

I actually asked Ian Corlett (Cheetor's VA) that question at TFCon last week.

No, jump good.

The robot equivalent of fapping.

That's it, essentially.

>Is this really what we're going to waste our lives talking about?
>posted on a board about comic books and children's cartoon

okey

That episode freaked me out when I was a kid, Optimus was PISSED

He downloaded all the Cybertronian Porn Archives.

ALL OF IT!

>so they just had to roll out

lol'd

Watched mlp

and his response?

Why could 1 Decepticon take on 4 Autobots at once in the first episode?

He was supposed to be dead

This reminds me of Age of Extinction when Optimus only reveals at the end that he's fully flight (and space!) capable despite this ability arguably might have been a tad useful during the rest of the movie.
