>she is gay so the show is bad
How is that bad Sup Forums, how does being gay affect anythinf

autostraddle.com/rebecca-sugar-is-bisexual-steven-universe-creator-comes-out-at-comic-con-346094/

she's bi not gay you dumb shitposter

people on Sup Forums hated the show long before she said she was gay

stop being a faggot and stop watching badshows

Nobody, if not a vocal minority, says that. It's one the few shows that still has generals for new episodes, so it must be decent.

The show is bad because she thinks it's important to teach children about sexual identity and consent, failing to realize that most kids don't listen to the "morals" of stories and just use them as a way to escape and have fun. SU's messages keep getting more blatant to the point where kids are losing interest, same thing with Adventure Time (Which has been increasingly getting worse ratings). It's the reason why for a long time, TTG got better ratings and why Loud House gets better ratings on average. Kids just want to laugh or have a world to escape to, not be aggressively preached to. SU could have had a great magical world to escape to but they keep prioritizing messages about consent over the magic and wonder of their world.

It's the teenagers and older who become autistic about the messages of SU and even then, if you're taking messages about identity from a children's show at that age, you're long gone in terms of self-esteem.

I have kid cousins who obsess over SU. They're 10 and 11. One girl, one boy. They appreciate the show for what it is and is happy when I explain some confusing parts for them (like why Pearl is upset over Rose's death). They watch it because there are cool fights and funny scenes.

The last episode lost them though. They were pretty confused.

I'm not saying kids hate it, I'm saying for a show with a really cool setting, cool aliens, amazing tech and lore, and a lot of wish fullfilment, it's amazing how Nick and Disney's recent big-hit shows (Gravity Falls at the time and now Loud House) managed to beat SU in ratings. And it's not even that CN can't get good ratings, the TTG-PPG crossover proves they can get 2.5 mil if they tried. By all logic, SU should be fucking huge with kids, not just pretty good.

>They watch it because there are cool fights and funny scenes.
Exactly, which is what kids like, not preachy messages. Morals are fine, but the writers of SU don't seem to know how to blend them into story very well. They seem really hellbent on making sure the characters stop and look at the camera to say, "It's important you trust your (fusion) partner".

>has generals so it MUST be good
lol

And this is who wrote the article, way more interesing.

Plus who is even surprised.

Gay bi it’s all the same, you’re all freaks of nature me

>Sugar came out has bi! This is SO IMPORTANT YOU GUYS!
>Omg, standing ovation cause now it's a bi woman talking and not just a woman!

This is why people hate the LGBTQ movement.

>Plus who is even surprised.
I'm surprised she doesn't have blue hair.

>2011+5
>Still giving a shit about a creators sexual orientation

>how does being gay affect anything
Exactly. Why are people making such a big deal about it?

I'm talking about the wingnuts who are calling her strong and beautiful for being bi. It's retarded.

Dumbledore being gay didn't make his character different either. Just because he played hide the broomstick with other men didn't change the effects of his actions. They are mutually exclusive. Unless you pretend that Voldemort was adding gay wizards to his 'to kill' list motivating Dumbledore to help was a thing. But it's not, and the whole thing is an attention grab. It's not atrocious like AM but it's there and every show is the soap box of its creators.

No OP, YOU are the one strawmanning. Delet this

The show is bad because it's bad.

t. homofag

This basically. Just another monster to kill for XP.

Year date tends to have no relevance to the progression of society. Especially if you want to consider people were more accepting of sexual tendencies thousands of years ago to the point where pedophilia was accepted.

But also yes, when gay marriage is now legal and Steven Universe is being produced in fucking California, her being bisexual is not even close to be "strong womyn beating the odds".

I have never watched this show, but if you have to emphasized that a character is gay to get ratings, your product is most likely terrible.

>In the Lord of the Rings movie, Ian McKellen plays a wizard. You think he goes home at night and shoots laser beams into his boyfriend's asshole?

Considering the fanbase of her show im not suprised she kept that hidden they would have become insufferable

...

> (you)

>overweight
>hon
>flower crown

It's not really emphasized, it's just the show. "Gay" isn't even addressed as a concept in universe.

Whatever happened to letting kids be kids?

they never emphasized that a character is gay

>Bi
>Coming Out

Nobody is actually Bi. 90% of the time its straight girls who are experimenting.

Yes it is, it's just called "fusion" instead so they can get it past the censors.

>The last episode lost them though. They were pretty confused.
10/11 year olds
maybe they are just stupid, user
it's not hard to grasp at all

Take off your rose colored glasses because that idea never existed.

Good to have the opinion of a professional child psychologist such as yourself.

Ah yes the homosexual fusion between Steven and Connie.

>bi
everyone is bi these days, especially girls, how is this news

Yeah, inundating kids with sexual stuff is fun.

the author of a show about lesbian rock "women who aren't women" from space is gay/bi, who would have guessed.

Man, in these latest episodes, you can really feel the gayness. Even more than before I mean.

It's like a thick coat enveloping something that could have been extremely awesome if it wasn't slowly being consumed by the creators "secret" agendas.

Zuke episodes especially are really prominent with this...feeling. It's like seeing the world from the eyes of a proud, self-centered lesbian - the awkardness, the "quirky" themes and manerisms that characters have in their interactions....it's just...eh.

You mean the fusion that lead to the show's symbolic transgender character.

The only straight characters with no agenda-strings-attached were Rose and Greg who, surprise, can't fuse.

>kissing = sexual stuff
>girls who like girls = sexual stuff
I never knew amish people could use computers now

I'm not talking about within the show, but outside of it, like OPs post.
Reminds me of a few years ago when people wanted Bert and Ernie to be gay for no reason.

You're proving my point, fampie.

>You mean the fusion that lead to the show's symbolic transgender character.
Wow I didn't know goalposts could walk.

Damn, look at them go.

nigga, you never even had a point. How the fuck is having a gay character sexual?

I guess we better stop Mickey and Minnie from holding hands and kissing each other because we don't want kids to know that girls and boys can do that even though that happens all the time in public.

because people who define their work by their sexuality have a hidden agenda and ulterior motive to creating their work, it's less genuine and more soapboxy and feels like a preachy disaster

how am i, a wealthy straight white male, supposed to care about this broad and her plight of oppression? it's like her experiences shaped her worldview and dominate her creative output.

no thanks.

But, but, but it's like unnatural, I took Biology in high school I know this shit.

Fusion is basically a way to get shit past the censors. Characters being gay is 99% of it, since all Gems are referred to as women.

Stevonnie doesn't negate my point that fusion was primarily a way for Pearl and Rose to metaphorically fuck on screen or for Ruby and Sapphire to be two strong lesbian characters. If anything, Stevonnie just enforces the idea that fusion is just "a way to get shit past the censors" since she symbolic of a trans character.

I'm sorry that you have no rebuttal towards any of this that all you can shout is GOAL POST! GOAL POSSSSSSSST!

>Zuke episodes especially are really prominent with this...feeling. It's like seeing the world from the eyes of a proud, self-centered lesbian - the awkardness, the "quirky" themes and manerisms that characters have in their interactions....it's just...eh.
So, I don't know dick about the staff because when I watch a show, especially something like AT or SU, I try to keep away from learning about them. Reading Alex Hirsch's tweets have taught me I'm just going to end up hating creators by accident.

But is there ANY ONE on the SU staff who was bullied when they were younger because they were gay? Because, just guessing from some comic con and behind the scenes tidbits, they seem like a pretty happy, lucky, privileged bunch and yet, they aggressively push how much they support gay stuff as if they themselves struggled growing up.

I'm only guessing but, I feel like most of this "struggle" from, especially lesbian artists, comes from being anti-social and having low self-esteem because that seems to be the case with most artists. Not actually because society put them down.

And Justin Roiland is a damned party animal. If anything, Tumblr will be showing her with even more attention than the usual.

I'm more surprised she likes dick.

>fusion is now fucking even though the SU team has said multiple times that fusion is just relationships in a physical form

An unfiltered biology class would tell you homosexuality has been observed in many species

She was in a relationship with one of the male members of her team so...

>All dances are erotic
>Even Amy's dance with Pearl involved twerking
>Even Pearl's dance with Garnet goes from ballet to sexy shoulder sway.
>Jasper telling Lapis, "Come on Lapis, Just say yes." Not even hiding the rape symbolism.
>I-it's not sex guys!
Maybe make the entire lead up to fusion way less sexy and erotic and they could make that point. Otherwise, they did a bad job at conveying their own intention.

>nigga, you never even had a point. How the fuck is having a gay character sexual?
Being gay is a sexual perversion...which is fine, but it is what it is.

>I guess we better stop Mickey and Minnie from holding hands and kissing each other because we don't want kids to know that girls and boys can do that even though that happens all the time in public.
No, because that's the norm...a male and female mating serves a purpose. There are people with fetishes and perversions other than being gay I'm sure you don't agree with....should cartoons also show foot fetish people? Should it show gimps? Should it show people who like animals? Should it show pedophiles? Who...by the way, claim they are born that way too

>But is there ANY ONE on the SU staff who was bullied when they were younger because they were gay?

being gay makes you a victim automaticaly
you should know that by now

>Fusion is basically a way to get shit past the censors
Fusion can represent many things sex being among them but i assure you there is nothing sexual about a squad of rubys joining together
>she symbolic of a trans character.
And this is just outright not true.

if fusion isn't basically sex then the gems aren't women at all and there are no lesbian themes in the show and sugar didn't accomplish her goal of making a show for gays.

>connie and steven dancing is now erotic
>the rubies fusing is now erotic
okay

>trans editor
what, they were born an editor in a writer's body?

Why does this matter? I think at this point she wants more attention for herself and less on SU. I'll unforunately always remember she drew that pedo porn of Ed, Edd and Eddy though

Or maybe because, sort of like 4cham, there has to be something wrong with your life that pushes you to slave away making cartoons for a living?

And that's ignoring the fact that you straight up don't know, as if middle and upper class kids in the late 90s and early 2000s didn't bully each other and got along perfectly.

>Unfiltered
That's the problem. Science classes in school today aren't unfiltered. All of them are filled with liberal government propaganda.

they aren't women because they're just rocks with female pronouns.

is "editor" a gender now?
i kinda lost count after the first 78

As opposed to teaching the good news of Jesus Christ?

Holy shit faggot get the hell off Fox News if teaching kids that evolution and gay people and condoms exist is "liberal propaganda".

>they're just rocks
then call them it

>with female pronouns.
yeah now they're fucking women. you can't have your cake and eat it too. if they identify as women then they're women characters. can't say this show has lesbian themes if there's not a single woman present sans connie who is in a straight relationship

>gets asked a question and answers it
>she wants more attention for herself obviously

> if fusion is sex than the gems aren't women
> if you can't fuck you don't have a gender
> you can't be gay if you don't have sex constantly

Did you forget Vidalia? How about the fish pizza family? And Connie's mom?

>implying the person who asked the question wasn't a CN plant

She wasn't asked about her personal sexuality, she was asked a question about the show.

all straight? unless they all decided to turn gay once having kids in the latest batch of episodes.

>being anti-social and having low self-esteem because that seems to be the case with most artists. Not actually because society put them down
Thats an interesting theory maybe all these artists who pretend they were shuned for there sexuality are just misunderstanding why people avoided them

Question: Steven Universe has strong themes that center on women's empowerment and LGBT themes. (Applause, cheers) Rebecca, what inspired you to include these themes in the show?

Rebecca Sugar: Well, in large part it's based on my experience as a bisexual woman. (Applause, cheers) I think that there are a lot of ways that I - oh, I haven't thought this... These themes have so much to do with who you are. There is an idea that these are themes that should not be shared with kids, but everyone shares stories about love and attraction with kids. So many stories for kids are about love. And it really makes a difference to hear stories about how someone like you can be loved. And if you don't hear those stories, it will change who you are. It's very important to me that we speak to kids about consent, that we speak to kids about identity, that we speak to kids about... I want to feel like I exist, and I want everyone else who wants to feel that way to feel that way too. (Loud applause, cheers)

>inspiration cannot come from your own traits now and you cannot talk about your traits without being called narcissistic

spawn of slaanesh

My issue is the show isnt about the Universe of Steven Universe and shit, its a bunch of drama between characters shoved into your face to the point of saturation. Constant infighting has really turned me off what was a interesting show.

Pure cancer.

My sarcasm wasn't conveyed, I apologize.

thought it was at first but her reply was quite definitely hers, unless she's great at acting. who knows? I'd like to think it's genuine though

Its using sexual imagery to convey nonsexual themes.
Admitidly that may have been a poor descision on the writers part

Christ can we just get to the next era of cartoons where fans and haters don't shit their pants because _____ is revealed to gay or some shit? Are we ever going to get to a point where a fucking cartoon can just have a gay couple and people don't make clickbait articles about it?

Even furries are getting fucking headlines now.

I can't believe she found someone even uglier than her to be with
the animation industry is amazing

she's not gay she's just very ugly with high standards

My reply wan't serious, but the idea of CN using plants that ask questions at comic con in order to further the liberal agenda is some funny infowars shit.

>Christ can we just get to the next era of cartoons where fans and haters don't shit their pants because _____ is revealed to gay or some shit? Are we ever going to get to a point where a fucking cartoon can just have a gay couple and people don't make clickbait articles about it?

Cartoons should be there to entertain people, not be vehicles for social justice agendas

So no, anybody who cares about the medium will never not be mad about someone who is blatantly using it to push their goals down peoples throats instead of doing their job which is making a good product that appeals to people

first of all she came out as bisexual which for girls is usually the eye rolling flag for attention
secondly anyone surprised by this turn of events doesn't follow her and/or watch the show.
No one is surprised a girl that looks like Jesse Eisenberg's little brother that writes stories about female rocks grinding together to make bigger female rocks is bisexual

Everything gay has an agenda.

Can't wait till based Trump brings on the day of the rope for the degenerates fucking up the entertainment industry.

Cartoons, like all media, are able to "appeal to certain people" while still having a message. It's also possible to have characters who are gay, and that's it, they're just gay.

metaphors have been used as double entendre to push unpopular shit on the masses since they've been invented, what's your point?
>being literal on /co

Yeah but then again the science behind it tells something gays don't want to hear. Homosexuality observed in nature is mostly for sexual release when females are not around/pregnant or to show dominance of power, most things people consider the deviant side of homosexuality. Plus the scientific basis of homosexuality only has one benefit in the natural world and that's to weed out people from the breeding pool. Homosexuality helps the non-homosexual relatives of the LGBTQ+ crowd breed the next generation while the LGBTQ+ genes are left at the wayside to rot and stay out of the gene pool. Unfilitered Biology would pretty much tell them that Homosexuality is nature's way of weeding you out from the gene pool. This is especially damning if they believe in the "Born This Way/Gay Gene" mentality because it gives credence that if it exists then it is genetically unhealthy and self-destructive because it decreases the chance of being passed down via breeding.

The way she started that response had me ready to rage but by the end i found myself agreing with her.
The fact there was applause when she said she was bisexual makes me extremely depressed though and i imagine she was trying hard not to cringe at it.

Well, no, let's cancel the Loud House, I'm sick of all this large family propaganda being shoved down my throat all the time. And God, those incest references all the time? Holy shit this moral degeneracy, they show this shit to kids?

Wow, they sure don't make cartoons like they used to, bland and devoid of personality. That's why I only watch shows like Johnny Test that are so commercial and overproduced that they cannot possibly offend anyone (except anyone with good taste).

i thought it cause the guy asking literally paused for effect after the buzzwords like ??? who does that

Enjoy the depths of Hell you flaming fucking degenerate. Your time is coming soon.

Does it matter?

Does it matter that there are shows on television with themes that you don't personally like? I mean Cartoon Network sure as hell doesn't treat them well, putting hiatuses up the ass and spoiling everything.

Or are you so triggered by the thought of people having other opinions that you can only escape to the apolitical hug box of your imagination, where no one ever does anything to offend you?

Im afraid the next era of cartoons is shitty reboots is there a way to end this era and speed through the next

But just being gay isn't an agenda, because live-action and adult cartoons have a shit ton of gay characters that nobody clap claps for. It's just children's shows where people shit their pants as if gays are a new thing. And it seems like we can't have "just gay characters", the THEME of the show needs to be about gayness, the genre needs to suddenly change to being a romance or a high school drama to accommodate for Marcy's and PB's relationships. If someone talks about the gay relationship, they will put it on a pedestal about how important it is we show ___ and ____ together and how we felt it was a brave step for the studio to fucking whatever.

I will actually applaud a creator who has a gay main character who does the same kiddie stuff of trying to impress older girl/guy and when asked about it, just responds, "I just felt like the character would be gay. That's it." not talk about how important it is for kids cartoons to have gay awareness.

And I'm not talking about JK Rowling's "HE WAS GAY ALL ALONG!!!" bullshit.

Fucking this. Although now she has no ground to stand on. They're fucking space lesbians.
