In season two, they changed the show dramatically. Instead of being trapped in a primitive jungle, the jungle was actually civilized all along. They had shopping malls, amusement parks, schools, television studios. They had everything. This is the only scene where the show "explains" how this was the case. I guess there was no real way to handle this retcon.
