I have refused treatment by female doctors in the past. I never justified it with anything, I just said "I want someone different to treat me." Female doctors are usually pretty bad at their job and can't listen - that's why I don't like them.

I realize you are a Brit and only know the NHS, but I have lived in Switzerland, America, the UK and Germany and I tell you, outside the NHS you can find actually good doctors. They don't know how to read blood tests. They cannot communicate. They will not stop lecturing you after you tell them you had a disease for 13 years. They will want to do tests which make no sense, while forget about tests who make sense. They will ignore state of the art articles, and talk about treatment options from 1997. They can't do math - even the easiest math. They will ask you weird questions, rather than have a conversation. And they just cannot use their hands... imagine that, a doctor who cannot use their hands.
Sorry, about I have seen this in 4 countries over 15 years with nearly a dozen female doctors. I will not change my mind. There might be special snowflakes out there, but if so, they must be rare.

I have had many negative experiences with non-white doctors. I had a full convulsive seizure when I was in my teens, and was rushed to hospital. It led to eventual brain surgery. I could have haemmorhaged and died. At the time, the A&E doctor, Pakistani, said it was a blocked nose. On another occasion I injured myself playing sports and could not walk on one ankle. After an X-ray he said the bone wasn't broken and to just leave.

i had to go to urgent care and had a black doctor. he was the fucking man. kind of looked like gustavo from breaking bad. straight shooter, picked up on my pain tolerance real quick (didnt keep asking "did that hurt" nor did he just start fucking going balls to wall) smart, funny, honest. made it so my copay was waived and everything went through insurance he was.
10/10 doc. I asked him if he would be my PCP but he says hes only really interested in doing urgent care stuff at this point in his career.

I've switched doctors plenty of times and I can tell you at least from my experience I had terrible experiences from both sides.
I had a middle eastern doctor that was knowledgeable but a piece of shit. He wanted me out the door as soon as possible and all my problems that are kind of hard to talk about he actually smirked at once and didn't take me seriously at all. Switched off that guy very quick.
Next doctor was alright, she was a younger woman and she did her job. Nothing special. I moved away so I got a new doctor.
I got an older woman who was a complete disaster. I had to see her often because the pharmacy never got refills back from her and her office never knew what the hell was going on with her. I don't even know how this could even happen. Thank god the pharmacy gives extensions to people that actually need medication.
Now I have a younger woman again and she's pretty good. She listens and she actually got me on better medication and off of two older meds that really fucked me up and were expensive. Only thing is that she's actually on maternity leave right now and the dude filling in for her is more autistic than I am at socializing.
It's a super mixed bag desu. I think you'll naturally have a prejudice for different sex doctors from bad experiences if you don't have many doctors in the first place.

Worked with a Nigerian Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in a substance misuse service for a bit and he was fucking terrible, had the most cold and aggravating manner with patients. From my experience, most doctors have been terrible. I have seen way more than most people (lots of conditions) but there's only one correlation I found. BTW what follows are the most standout examples, I've seen many many doctors.
British Asian (Indian, Pakistani heritage) doctors are the fucking worst. Every one of them I've seen have been utter pieces of shit. So so so fucking arrogant. I think it's because in their communities they're hot shit, so they let it get to their heads. They don't listen. If it's something they can't figure out straight away, they'll say there's nothing wrong with you. I've had multiple British Asian doctors tell me I'm making stuff up and kick me out of their office. One in his report even wrote in his report that I need psychiatric help. Years later the conditions were discovered by others. My mum was told to shut up by a GP, that she was just depressed and making things up (turned out she had TB). The two hospital consultants were male, my mum's GP female. All probably in their 40s, so not old, not young.
However I have had a few white doctors be just as bad. A white GP in her 30s who was just as arrogant, rude (and wrong). She was decent looking too, no need for her to be bitter.
Another whitey who stands out as being terrible was a doctor I saw privately when I was going nowhere with the NHS, I was getting desperate. ENT problem. Booked a one-off apt with BUPA. Doctor was an old (70s) arrogant South African male. Again, barely looked at me, said it was nothing, told me to get out. Only this time, I also got a bill in the mail. Bastard. You could tell he had contempt for me, probably because I was a lowly peasant paying for a one-off.

I can relate but I don't think it's a black-and-white issue. I live in a major city known for its healthcare innovations, and I have had many doctors in many institutions (America, lol,) and have suffered just one lousy doctor. Yes, it was a woman. But I don't think it is competency but rather temperament (she was east asian, too, Korean I think). She lacked the courage to diagnose, and instead kept me on the treadmill of ever increasing tests. Kind of like how women in academia shine at computation, because they're authoritarian robots, but suck at higher math and physics, because they're unreasonable.
...A couple of other thoughts:
- Young doctors, newly qualified are the best. Not because they're the most knowledgeable, but because they're the least arrogant, the most willing to listen and think and investigate. Across GPs, A&E doctors and consultants. Both male and female. As long as they're young and white lel.
- And the doctor I see the most now (for my rare ongoing condition) is a fantastic doctor. She's LITERALLY the leading world authority for my condition. And that's like a side project. The bulk of her time is spent on other conditions at Great Ormond St Hospital. She has multiple jobs, she must be superwoman. She's hot shit, and yet is so so super nice. To literally be the best in the world at what she does, yet conduct herself with such niceness and humility - it was really shocking for me at first. Must be because of her work as a pediatrician at GOSH, so she's saccharine sweet even to her adult patients lol. For me, she shatters any theories about women doctors being inferior.

Could not be certain on whether he was born here. I would also say that other Asian doctors were extremely dismissive and openly showed preferential treatment to Asian patients, ignoring me to talk to someone else in a foreign language during my consultation.
I knew someone who worked in the hospital too, in a menial role. He said it was a real eye-opener. Visiting Asian families would flock in droves, ignore visiting times, blocking the corridors, speaking once again in other languages with some being plainly unable to speak English, and generally making a nuisance of themselves. In addition, the patients had a tendency toward rudeness as well, and a general contempt for white staff.
my experience so far has been that if you go to a free market non-communist medical institution you get 10/10 service from everyone involved including the security at the door
a customer they wish to see return is always treated like a king, otoh a (nationalized health insurance) user is treated like a piece of shit although there are exceptions to this rule but they tend to be pretty few and far in between

I usually give them a chance. No matter what though women usually respond to confidence and intelligence. If you are knowledgeable about what your problems are or what your symptoms are and know exactly what procedure you want or need done they generally do it with out arguing.
Male doctors tend to not respond to this and will over ride your opinion and do whatever they think the problem is and are more likely to waste your time on a hunch.
I am not saying don't listen to either doc, they are the experts after all, but make sure they are doing what YOU want.
Well this happens more often then you think. When a young woman (especially virgins) never have an exam like a papsmear, doctors could easily take advantage of the situation. Nor have I seen one. In my experience, women doctors tend to seem a little more bored and men more attentive. This doesn't carry across to mental health issues though, where women are better and men tend not to be very helpful. I had a Greek male doctor who was obviously very bored by the prospect of having to do his job and treated his patients like specimens, and an African GP who seemed totally incompetent. On the basis of a half hour appointment he misdiagnosed me as Antisocial Behaviour Disorder, which is not a good diagnosis to have. Thankfully it was subsequently revisited.

They all parrot information and barf it up on tests but they don't grasp it on a fundamental level.

Most black doctors have to pay out their fuckholes for insurance. They actually have to pay more just because they're black. So most of them tend to try very hard not to fuck up.

Oh man, you seem to have met as many shit doctors as I have. My luck has finally turned recently though. After my rare diagnosis (which I figured out by myself at age 26), other doctors have finally started taking me seriously. I have a suspicion that when they take a quick look at your record before you go in, they judge you quite a bit on that. But I still reckon Asian doctors are already pieces of shit to begin with so it makes them that much worse.
That casual misdiagnosis is scary. They can be so reckless. I was suffering from bad ENT problems for two years constantly. Blocked ears, pressure in ears, itchy ears, ear ache, itchy throat, blocked sinuses etc. I saw many doctors. Two of whom literally gave completely different diagnoses within a day. Anyway I finally got referred to a specialist the the Royal Free hospital. My mum asked to come with me because she saw I'd been getting nowhere on my own for two years. I let her. Still a teenager. The Asian male consultant barely took a look, said he saw no signs of anything wrong, that I felt phantom conditions, and basically told me to get out. And then in the letter sent to my GP (that I received a copy of), he said I should see a psychiatrist and that I had mummy issues (on the basis that I interrupted her once during the consultation). Such a piece of shit. That scared me off going to the doctor for the next 4 years. It can be so damaging to have that on your record (which like I said I think they all skim then judge you by).
