Why was he basically turned into a side character after 1st season?

Why was he basically turned into a side character after 1st season?

because he scares the white audience

Says you, he was my favorite character

This, I'm rewarching the early eps and it's actually pretty entertaining to see him be the only not retarded person there and talk sense into people instead of being a background character.

Bump

you can't have a character whose hat is being smart and oppressed when at this point only an idiot would think he's still being oppressed after there's a black president
i mean, it was funny because he was wrong, and the writers always made it clear both explicitly and by way of illustration

The fuck are you talking about? He's literally the voice of reason in every situation and basically always turns out to be right.

>hurr durr the president controls everything therefore there can't be racism
you're retarded

because much like say daria or the kid from Camp Camp

The "Straight man Lead" handicaps himself by being to smart for the normal om foolery and rarely engages, they are reactionary, but we all no the best leads move the plots for ward them selves.

TLDR: Huey dose to muchtime complaining not enough doing

uhh.. no? he was pretty much always wrong.
i mean there's racism against white people but..

>>Sup Forums

They could have easily had him getting into all kinds of activist/political shenanigans, basically have a Pinky and the Brain thing except instead of taking over the world he's trying to overthrow whitey.

There wasn't really much to do with him. He wasn't as outrageous as the other characters for the humor.

Depends, character wise he was learning the futility of his actions and became more reserved so that's the in story excuse. Another is likely they just didn't have as much material compared to Robert, Riley and Tom, but according to Aaron it was intended from the beginning.

He wanted the comic strip to focus on Huey and Caesar's everyday, while the show would be the reverse. Primarily because it was easier to write from Huey's perspective in the comic since news would come around every other day to use and drawing up the scenes was much simpler than storyboarding an episode, in the show it would be trickier since by the time the writers hear word of something and start planning and making an episode it's already expired.

I actually like that the first three seasons mainly focused on one member of the Freeman family.
>S1: Huey
>S2: Riley
>S3: Granddad

But it was awful how in Season 4 it turned into "The Granddad Show Guest Starring Huey and Riley".

And in the first season him and Riley acted closer to actual kids. Huey wasn't always 100% right. Remember when he convinced Robert that Stinkmeaner was a superhuman Blind Nigga Samurai and didn't realize he was just a normal blind man who got a lucky hit in until the last moment?

>yfw baiting this hard
.

go back to tumblr and cry about non existent systematic racism on your blog

Please do tell us how hard it is for you, you poor, mistreated white person.

>tumblr

I guess I'm #MentallyHill now

Because writing for him means having him go for black social issues or at least allegories for black social issues with a degree of nuance that the writers were simply not capable of after season 1.

Yeah sure having Martin Luther King Jr come and make observations isn't the definition of deep nuance but compared to "SLAVERY THEME PARK, WAIT, NO... I'M NO LONGER A SLAVE SO DEEP" it's practically the Marianas Trench.

>systematic
I'll take goalpost moving for 500, Alex.

Moreover, Huey eres on the side of the white people in the show more than the black people. He just finds them naive. I'm starting to think you've never even watched the show.

People like dumb leads more.

>You're Tumblr if you don't believe white people are oppressed

wew lad

...

tumblr/10

Hey that was season 4. No fair judging season 2 and 3 based on that.

>Nose turning red

...

Yeah you're right I'm being a bit unfair, seasons 2/3 had its moment vis a vis racial commentary, like the one where Riley's teacher said "nigga" and the one about prison practically being a revolving door.

Grampa and the one adult are more interesting that the kids

Huey is boring character, because he is the voice of reason and the revolutionary man that is against the system and that's an very unlikeable combination for most of people.
Even tou, he is my second favorite character, only second to Rukus.

Everyone got bored of listening to his Black Power mantra because literally everything he said about blacks was invalidated by everyone else doing the exact opposite thing.

Also Riley trying to be gangsta is more entertaining than WE WUZ KANGS

This, a major reoccurring theme in the show is satirizing black culture in general.

...

Except Huey constantly laments how stupid most of the black people he knows are, that's they whole point of the Nigga moment episodes, the Obama episode, the R. Kelly episode etc. The point is almost that Huey is right about most things, but it doesn't matter because everybody around him is too stupid to notice or care, ESPECIALLY all the other black people.

>white people are oppressed

Because the audience didn't want politics even though his politics were proven wrong sometimes. The audience sided more to the pop-culture references and jokes instead of the "moral of the story" type thing.

Which is pretty shit, cause Huey could've became an iconic figure in cartoon history. He's the goddamn kid on the logo yet he's tossed aside for Riley's ignorant adventures.

Which is so damn sad seeing how Season 1 was amazing and perfection, Huey being one of the main reasons.

>me bait fish

Please be more creative

I'm black and I have black friends who have said they thought Riley was more interesting. Mainly because at the time we were teens and we were only in it for the cultural references.

It wasn't until I grew up and learned more about overall plot and character writing and over show tones, that I really learned to respect Huey. Also it helped because I grew out of caring about the shit Riley cared about, so Huey became very appealing.

For the most part Season 1 and 2 are extremely well written. I Couldn't see this when I was younger.

Writers can learn a lot from Boondocks. Notice how Huey was suppose to be the guy with all the answers and a mary sue, but even Jasmine calls him out on his beliefs. This makes him entirely likable, because if he was always right, he'd just be the writer's self-insert. It's even better when, when he was right, you could completely agree with him and it ultimately made for a good character.

Because it become less about sending a message and more about being a generic adult swim show. Seriously the seasons just got worse as it went by

But then he would have to fail constantly

...

>implying I'm white
I just sick of your kind and all your sjw propaganda, you guys are ruining everything.
Better Sup Forums that fucking tumblr.

Because he was a gary sue.

Well this thread went to shit fast

Because he's boooooooring, user.
It's just blah blah, gay sex, blah blah, congress.

I'm Sup Forums as fuck and this image is hilarious.

Time to share other versions

>tfw the character was a marxist
>tfw he's the only marxist we'll see on tv that won't be portrayed as an sjw

just fuck my shit up nigga

both are equally terrible man because they are both the same

the only difference is that one is extremely liberal while the other is extremely conservative

and the thing is they're the same

nah

>this board in a nutshell.gif

Was he though? He got his ass kicked so many times in the show I can't remember him winning a fight, but you knew he had skill. Also he get's called out on his beliefs a lot, like the opposite of Lisa Simpson who never gets called out on her shit.

>implying you're marxist
>whining about sjws

Solidarity is important. Don't be a brocialist, comrade.

>brocialist

Agreed. Huey has some flaws even though he's almost always the voice of reason.

...

White people might be oppressed in countries where they aren't the majority but if you don't happen to live in Africa or Asia chances are that there is no institutional oppression of white people.

>White people might be oppressed in countries where they aren't the majority

I mean... you can maybe say that about some shitty European countries when there's a civil war and it's like Slavic Ethnicity No.2534 vs. Slavic Ethnicity No. 2334 vs. German-speaking Group No. 0646.

Need more Sup Forums memes.

Smart people are bummers

He retired.

Because without a proper counterpart to put him in check, or force huey to second guess his logic, Huey's purpose is to remain the sole flawless, unquestioned voice of reason which doesn't make for a very good MC.

This is why this show needed Cesar.

Though thinking about it, even his addition probably wouldn't have mattered. the only characters that are like themselves in both the comic AND the ahow are Riley, Jasmine, and Ruckus.

Cesar probably would've been some faggot talking about weed all day because LOLJAMAICAN

Or worse.

the comics always played Huey's paranoia and overbearing behavior for laughs. Like pic related. The cartoon took away everything that was cool about him to make him your typical "wise beyond their years" MC and it was a major flaw

Because he was BOOOOOORRRRRRIIIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGG...

Ruckus, Riley, fuck even Tom got me to laugh at least. At least with Grandad I could feel sorry for him during sad moments. Sarah would often piss me off. I loved how gangster Cindy was in the fundraiser.

Huey just doesn't interest me.

Huey did have his moments but they were sparse and often mean spirited, like when Jasmine is reaching out to him for the first time before he leaves for Chicago pointing out she doesn't have any friends, and his response is
>Well, sucks to be you
and walking off. Of course karma made it so he got that ass beat and came crawling back to her, but still.

Actually that bluntness is often the source of his humor, like when he told Jasmine word for word her daddy ain't nobody's bitch.

>daddy ain't nobody's bitch.
God that was such a good episode.

thus

It rhymes with the irl death of radical leftism.

>Trump Steaks
kek

This

>i mean there's racism against white people but..
Oh shut the fuck up.

>you cant be racist against white people

I don't believe said anything about their not being racism against white people, what he did say was just because there is a black president doesn't mean their isn't racism toward blacks.
However I do agree their is racism against whites its definitely not as harsh as it is toward blacks.

>However I do agree their is racism against whites its definitely not as harsh as it is toward blacks.
I'm black, but I don't want to discount anyone's personal experience or overlook notable examples in the past and present.

I'm a disgusting mutt myself, no self hate intended.
Are you saying you don't want to assume more often then not black people are the "victims" of racism?
Not trying to talk like an sjw or anything I just actually have no idea what you're trying to say.

>Are you saying you don't want to assume more often then not black people are the "victims" of racism?
kinda. I see stuff like white male tears and think about the reaction the media would have if it was reversed and it peeves me a bit. I also see anons here post personal anecdotes about there own experience with racism while being white. I makes me reflect back on my own experiences and I don't think many people were that racist towards me.

I understand what you mean which is why I agree with that their is racism toward them but I disagree that its to the same extent as it is for blacks, I can't argue against personal experiences because I wasn't their and I don't know if it even happend. But just because white people have stories they can tell about how shits not one-sided, doesn't make the two sides equal. I would keep talking about this but we are on Sup Forums and defending black people while saying white folk dont have it so bad can often lead to Sup Forums showing up or just mad people in general, so i'll leave it at that.

It's an interesting clusterfuck if you're a white passing mutt.

why

not that guy, but mixed people usually get a pass for using the n-word. They'll hear their family members use it all the time as a term of endearment. Then they go to school and start hanging out with the other black kids and drop the bomb and get their ass kicked because visually it looks like a white guy using the n-word, possibly mockingly rather than as a term of endearment, to those unaware that the guy is mixed.

Just one example off the top of my head.

Racists of all types tend to dislike you for not fitting in a box, I get automatically tossed in with "whitey" because of my skin color even when I'm less then a quarter white and my family came from a black majority country, etc.

On the other hand, I can easily just hide in the background.

>His favourite character isn't Riley
>His president isn't black
>His Lambo isn't blue

Most mixed people are just simply considered black, Obama for example, probably from that one drop rule in the past, at least that's what i'm told, so using nigga around black people is easy. Don't get me wrong they didn't see me as one of them or anything I was just allowed to say it but I talk much to "white" to be able to say it "correctly".
Hey man I feel you, when i'm with my white friends i'm black but when i'm with my black friends i'm white. Just one big cycle of people being too superficial.

Because the black community, particularly in America is super obsessed about race. Possibly about as much as Sup Forums

Another weird case is the trying too hard SJWish types who, as soon as they find out your mom is black, completely flip their behaviour around you. Even more so if they're the kind who make wild racial accusations all the time.

You say the black community is to obsessed with race? I don't think so, I'd say they're just as obsessed as everyone else is. You probably just travel in circles where all you hear are the memes about dindu, no offense. I'm completely serious when I say I've been in groups of white people who sit and talk about race any time they are around me or at least they'll bring up my race and call me black even though I'm not.

No I mean there are some mixed people that actually look white. Like pic related. He might get his ass kicked if he grew up in Harlem and went around dropping the n-bomb casually.

That guy isn't really black and white mixed, at least not 50/50.
He calls his own father black when he was actually mixed and again, from what I read atleast, not even 50/50. Which would explain why he looks almost entirely white.
Again this draws back to most mixed people being called black, it's become such a regular thing that even the mixed people end up identifying as black even when they aren't.

His dads the one at the very end, the one in the middle is his uncle.

To be fair though. Stinkmeaner really did turn into a Blind Nigga Samurai after he died.

I GOT A THREE-STICK NUN-CHUCK NUYGGAH!

>Lulz I think my college commie definition of racism is the only truth lulz
Also Huey is a black supremacist, that was part of the jokes, some post on this thread are another proof that we are invaded by Tumblr.

There was also the time he encouraged Riley and Granddad's amusingly retardation regarding homosexuality, just so he could have his own room.

You CAN be racist against white people. You're not going to do much with it though besides sell a few books.

I think the word you're looking for is prejudiced. Not racist. Racism is a power construct. Non white people don't really have much power. A illusion of power maybe, but not the kind of power that a pale complexion gives someone.

>inb4 i'm called a sjw

He started out as a kind of black power type kid, but he clearly evolves along with the show into a less extreme position. If you notice he stops talking about white supremacy specifically and basically just starts griping about more generic anti-establishment leftist stuff. He's basically just some vaguely defined socialist/communist/anarchist by the end of the show.

I'm an actual socialist who isn't even remotely Sup Forums and even I think the whole "racism = prejudice + power" is bullshit and convenient goalpost moving.

>come on can't we agree that they are both equally as bad?
No fuck that and fuck you. I hate Sup Forums drudging their shit up where it doesn't belong but atleast Sup Forums in all their shittiness doesn't try to affect shit outside of the internet, they aren't lashing out in all directions causing people to bend to their demands or face the consequences of being a racist. or in Sup Forumss case "not being racist enough"
