So TNG turns 30 years old in September this year. Where were you when it aired?

My dad was a big trekkie so I remember watching the first ep on our gigantic CTR TV. He lost his shit when the Enterprise separated.

comfiest lincoln style luxury starship ever imagined

Absolutely. Even the background noise is comfy.

>you will never feel sexual arousal in Seven's body

Yer a tad off on shows

>Picard to Engineering
>It's bloody Queen Day, innit?
>I want you to make the Enterprise bendy to celebrate

Enjoy

Aww yiss

It is kinda sad that TNG didn't really become a staple until Roddenberry was removed from most creative decisions. He was trying too hard to be TOS in the 80s and the show suffered for a couple years aside from a few gems.

For instance...

Nice dress, lieutenant.

>It is kinda sad that TNG didn't really become a staple until Roddenberry was removed from most creative decisions. He was trying too hard to be TOS in the 80s and the show suffered for a couple years aside from a few gems.

No. The problem with TNG was opposite of trying to be TOS. Roddenberry wanted TNG's take on federation to be completely utopian where there was simply no conflict between members of crew. That kinda kills the drama. He went bit too far in the humanity has grown out of its infancy thing.

Typical TNG episode in nutshell.
>A random spacial anomaly is the problem of the week.
>There is point of view character, most often Picard or Data.
>Professional disagreement between crew members, often because Picard or Riker can't inform rest of the crew about something classified about mission.
>Characters resolve said professional disagreement.
>Data configures deflector to emit some kind of pulse.
>Problem of the week solved.

Picture kinda related, actual main character of TNG.

>Where were you when it aired?

I was four when it started. I didn't start watching Trek until it was in its last couple of seasons.

What if Klingons found a Vulcan baby on Qo'noS?

...

me on the left, but actually me on the right

>leftist, leftist, leftis, communism, socialism
what's the obsession

Trek threads are so dead today

I don't disagree with this, but I still think he wanted the TOS aspects that we call campy now integrated with 80's progressivism and it just did not work.

Thank god we got this later on youtu.be/v6muVlWkH2Y

Star Trek is undeniably liberal and progressive, but there were some really weird and regressive scenes that stood out to me over the years:

>Shran says “pinkskins” but starts stuttering after noticing Mayweather
>Kirk jokes with Scotty about Spock’s mother being a race-mixer
>Worf enters Picard’s ready room without knocking and gets phasered
>Odo says the only reason he didn't join the Cardassians is he couldn't replicate the spoon
>Chakotay was actually Armenian but pretended to be Indian for attention
>7 of 9 insists to Naomi Wildman that Barack Obama is actually not a valid American citizen
>Dax tries to redpill Bashir by showing him the chart with all the Bajorans in top media positions
>Janeway says “we have to out-Ferengi the Ferengi”
>Chekov tells Sulu that Russia should have conquered Japan like it conquered the Ukraine
>Kirk voted for Donald J. Trump
>Soval uses the phrase “the eternal Ando”
>Tuvok walks on the bridge and Neelix makes money noises
>Kes confesses to Paris that Neelix is molesting her, and he starts grooming her too
>Bones called Spock “Jew, Green blooded bastard”
>Admiral Janeway insists that the Klingons were responsible for leaking the logs proving she committed genocide and aided The Borg
>Gowron calls Worf “a subklingon fucking targ”
>Picards helps forcibly displace the Indians because of a treaty with the Cardassians
>O’Brien complains that “petaQ” is just a word and it’s silly “only Klingons can say it”
>Data tells Geordi that he’s just as beta as Barclay, but people take pity on him because he’s blind
>Bashir tells Ezri that he’s glad she’s “not a slut anymore”
>"'Gentle' was bred out of these Cardassians a long time ago"
>T’pol explains to Archer the difference in IQ distributions between species
>Kira coaches Ziyal on how to milk the Occupation for maximum sympathy
>Sisko routinely misgenders Jadzia
>That time Jadzia Dax and her Klingon friends murdered a late-term abortion doctor

Then there was this....fuck.

so much for the tolerant left

This is good

Love this ep

It's a good episode. Shame you don't actually get to see the Horatio, Renegade & Thomas Paine. The Ambassador & New Orleans classes were two of the best but least utilized designs in TNG.

I was sophomore in high school. went over to a friend's house. he was a total D&D geek. His current obsession at the time was TMNT roleplaying books that he picked up at The Compleat Strategist.
I hated TNG until season 3 and now love it despite it's flaws.

s01e01 of DS9 was fucking intense

>Sisko in the dark
>Picard in the light
>this is the last time they spoke as friends

...

its easier to see sexual organs

>>Data configures deflector to emit some kind of pulse.

Hardy chuckle, but now I'm curious about how often this actually happened. Had to be at least 15 percent of the episodes.

sisko had more character development in that episode than anyone on TNG yet in 4 seasons

Coke commercials were weird back then

Anyone who asks "What's this from?" need to be removed from the gene pool.

never wondered that because I don't give a shit

>Irrational nigger is angry at white man
Hell of an arc

cracker did kill his wife

weren't those bug things supposed to be the original big bad instead of the borg?

Yet he let Worf murder the head of state of their most trusted ally on a Starfleet station.

Yes

the novels brought them back and its super autistic

apparently they are the evil trill who were cast off the Trill planet and they go around in a moon that has warp drive somehow taking over planets so they can amass an army to take over Trill

It's the Klingon way. Picard let Worf get away with murder too.

I disagree with everyone involved in this thread except for OP's dad, that shit was bonkers

Fucking manlets

>So TNG turns 30 years old in September this year.

Midlife crisis!

What anime do TNG fans like? DS9 fans please don't answer

JoJos

>Bashirfaggot
This thread isn't for your type, go back to the general pls, or go ahead and make another awful general if one doesn't exist

Any anime from 7 years ago.

I used to watch them with my family, too young for the first few seasons though. My mother loved all the Lwaxana episodes, probably explains why they made them.

>mfw I turn 50 on the same day

my baby sister at the time in like 1993 called Patrick Stewart- Captain Pecan.

Hello elderly,
Did you ever visit BBSes or use the pre-Web Internet?

>>Bones called Spock “Jew, Green blooded bastard”
Good episode

AOL ruined the internet

Mom was a big Trek nerd, she even read *every* book for a long time (she gave up in the late 90s). Watched the premiere live on our 19" Magnavox. Thought the ship was cheesy, thought the zoom past the camera during the opening was cheesy, though the show was bad. I really didn't like it, but we kept watching it every week. Thank god they pulled it together in season 3. I still won't watch those early episodes, they're just brutal.

Eternal September

The Big D's only weakness was crappy Birds of Prey

Yes I did. It was a lot like darknet. Like almost the same thing.

How did you access the pre-Web Internet? Also, would you be willing to be interviewed on camera for a documentary?

At least that ep gave us this thing of beauty

>stronk independent women planet who don't need no man
>leader immediately falls for Riker
Based Riker indeed

>not the HD version
(I'm not Bashirfag btw)

>ywn watch Voyager and DS9 in remastered HD

Even in HD you can't see his nipple

Those nice long legs
t. Rikerfaggot

what is Eternal September?

Riker is a big guy.

When global warming finally made every server have to use cooling systems

where's the HD cap of troi opening door in see through nightgown???

...

>5'11 vs. 6'1

This one?

That episode was so weird. If the roles of that society were reversed, why was she attracted to an extremely masculine riker? Wouldn't it be like an attractive alpha male being attracted to a butch lesbian?

you're doing god's work
thank you

Frakes is 6'4"

Riker has that effect on females and even non-females.

It's a meme you dip

...

>tfw only gay for Riker

It seems my 'tism is showing

They were supposed to be the borg, the beacon they sent at the end of that ep was to the delta quadrant.

Picard became less autistic as the series went on

>don't mind me, just pirating this EMH
lost my sides with this episode

2mos old in a crib

>There will never be a Federdation based show that isn't about Starfleet but about average citizens or just different professions.

They'd have a real problem trying to explain everything
>all wants have been removed from society
>all our vices have been tempered, we focus only on self-improvement
>money and any sort of personal wealth is a thing of the past
