Do you like her or hate her?

Do you like her or hate her?

Explain why

I really don't care, except that her new hair is hideous.

I like her in facist cunt fuckup mode

Can't get myself to care desu

I don't really care, except that her new hair is great.

She's correct when it comes to Civil War, but I don't want her to be because everything she says makes me hate her.

I liked her before they gave her the Y-chromosome.

i like her but Marvel clearly doesn't know what they want to do with her. I can't get myself to love the character no matter how much I want to. Hopefully MCU Carol can bring some stability.

I only cared about her when I thought she was gonna be Peters new girl

PHONY

I wanna do her

Her most recent run is actually pretty good

I miss the long hair and the outfit that showed off her ass. Other than that I couldn't care less.

I just kind of don't care about her. I far prefer Monica Rambeau.

I like the new costume with the shoulder length wavy hair.

This look is lame.

I don't follow her book, though.

I like her a lot.

a damaged, violent, PTSD-ridden ex-military person who's deeply in denial about the fact that she's actually really mean and loves to kill? And the lesbianism.

what's not to like?

Oh, relative to side cut you mean.

That's not fair. Marquez makes EVERYONE look sexy. Did you see his She-Hulk? Unf.

I used to love her.

Now I don't even recognize her, Carol died with AvX, along with the mutants.

She's a dyke isn't she.

I don't think modern Carol really resonates with me because Captain Military is an angle that doesn't really appeal to anything I'm interested in at all.

I was introduced to Carol through Kurt Busiek's Iron Man and Avengers run and in that she was an alcoholic struggling science fiction author. I think that had a lot more bite and interest to it than current Captain Fascist and her Carol Corps. I think if there's one mistake that Busiek made it was the whole Warbird moniker. I can understand trying to establish a new identity and direction for her after all of the terrible things she'd gone through in the past(Avengers 200, Rogue sucking her powers dry, the Brood, losing the Binary powers), but it's been kind of run into the ground since 9/11 happened, she got the tacticool uniform, then went back to the fetish outfit, and is now being pushed as boring military person.

Really, if I were to reboot the character, I put her in New York, or maybe a different big city to shake things up, take her out of the Air Force Colonel/US Government Stooge/Fascist mode, make her a struggling Sci Fi author, bring over Spider-Woman and bring Rhodey back to life and just have it be Broad City in a big Marvel City. Carol tries to have a career as a writer, deals with all the weird shit one has to wallow in while living in New York, and Spider-Woman has a weird semi sexual tension filled best friend relationship with her.

Her hair ruined her chances to be relevant and be liked

She's a fascist.

>but it's been kind of run into the ground since 9/11 happened,

Yup, post-9/11 ruined comics for me, there so much agenda pushing from Marvel and DC.

There's literally nothing to like about her, she hasn't had a good run in ever. Yes, that includes the newest one. I HATE the new look, and sheer desperation with which Marvel has consistently shoved her down our throats for the past few years has spoiled her for me. I used to not care, now I actively hate her.

Had good intentions, but the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Was never really relevant when I actually bought comics, so I don't care.

Did they turn her into a dyke?

I never liked her, and pretty sums up why. There isn't a single redeemable quality about her. People claim her flaws make her interesting, but it really doesn't. She's yet to actually get a good run from them.

What I like about Carol is that she pulls off the Maverick archetype without being two-dimensional about it. She's what Hal Jordan would be if Hal were a good character. She's got Tony Stark's swagger and over-abundance of confidence, Steve Roger's discipline and military training, and raw power enough to rival Thor (unless Aaron is writing him it seems). And despite all that, she's still very much her own character, with her own flavors of compassionate and flippant and humorous. If I had to sum Carol up in one word, it'd be "liberation" and that's a beautiful thing.

Slowly starting to hate her with how much of an unwarranted push she's getting. She's never had a standout run or any kind of classic story, never been a major player in universe-shaping events that people will always remember as turning points in Marvel, and now I'm supposed to buy her as the figurehead of the Marvel universe. Just doesn't work at all
The fact she's the biggest player in Civil War 2 is hilarious considering how completely irrelevant to the first Civil War she was. Was she even in it that much? I legitiimately don't remember anything she did in it

This also has a lot to do with it. When I was actively reading everything I could get my hands on in Marvel, Carol didn't do anything except hang out with Jessica Drew and worry that her ass looked fat in her stripper costume. Marvel never did any decent job of building her into a star player, they just started pretending she was one, and since she never underwent any form of transition while I was reading, I'll never see her as important

>DC

every single time somebody shits on Marvel people feel like they need to shit on DC for parity, even though Marvel is the only one guilty of that shit.

I like her

I hear she was getting a movie so asked around, read busiek's avengers then read Reed's run. Loved reed's run to bits. skipped KSD on user's advice ad have been keeping up with her current stuff.

I like how she's a soldier trying to make the most of getting super powers. I like how she has a culture-crush on the kree. I like how she's commander shepard if commander shepard was a super saiyan. I like all her homoerotic subtext. I like how happy she gets when killing aliens and how she slowly goes insane if she doesn't have a war to fight. I like that she's gone from c-list grunt to faction leader and power-house. I like that she's a woman with no emotional connection to most of her memories whose best friend is secretly a teenager in the body of a grown woman

Neither, she's boring.
I can't bring myself to care.

Her look sucks. Black outfit returning when?

Also leading any event is character cancer of the worst sort.

Black outfit isn't empowering, CIScum.

I don't give a fuck. She's got no really great runs. Even in her best books she still does nothing memorable and is overshadowed by more interesting characters.

Notice how few truly memorable pages are posted in this thread? No offense to user, but the only thing posted so far is a pretty bog standard action page.

Because of her push, creator after creator has tried to go BIG with her, and it mostly hasn't worked.

I like her in Ultimates and her current solo book.

Haven't read anything else with her. She's not one of my favorites, but she's fine. I don't really get Sup Forums's hateboner for her character.

>overshadowed by more interesting characters
Oh man, absolutely. That run you posted, the arc was 100% carried by Machine Man

the best thing she ever did, was lose her powers to Rogue

This right here, nothing wrong with her

She's the Roman Reigns of comic book characters

Well... That analogy doesn't work much anymore.

I tried to think of the most famous, iconic shit that shes' ever done. And aside from that whole infamous pregancy storytime of pain class thing, and getting fisted in every hole by Rogue, this was the only thing I could come up with off the top of my head.

After that, there's what, blowing up the Brood as binary?

I'm not up to date on my /woo/. What happened?

He's been buried twice since his return. It looks like Reigns push is over (for now)

I really wanted to like her, she was the character I was most interested in. Her first book I read was a literal snore fest and everything else after that has been worse

she looked better with long hair though, aside from when she had that dumb mohawk.

I really wanted to like her too

Rogue's better.

I dunno. She's getting to be a boring as Superman.

Too much power creep, no balancing flaws.

Marvel could have chosen a more interesting character to be it's Flagship Female.

Who else could they have chosen? Most of their most well-known heroines are either X-Men or female versions of male superheroes.

Better than the muslim Miss Marvel, whats her superpower except being a muslim?

>a damaged, violent, PTSD-ridden ex-military person who's deeply in denial about the fact that she's actually really mean and loves to kill? And the lesbianism.

That seems like the recipe for a really interesting solo run. Why are people saying she doesn't have any interesting "great" comics like Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wolverine, etc?

Do any of the solo comics not ever acknowledge that she likes killing? That seems like that could be an interesting thing to focus on for the character.

>Most of their most well-known heroines are either X-Men

Why is this a bad thing?

The X-Men are one of the fucking pillars of Marvel. And just cause they don't have the fucking movies they won't use the characters?

This is why Marvel fans get called mouseketeers.

she's plastic man without the creativity

Because Marvel is too focused on bullshit events to actually get writers to write good stories.

Its bad for diseny because if they make anyone of the xmen their flagship, Fox will be the ones that will profit off making a movie from it and disney and marvel want that money.

>Who else could they have chosen?

Literally any other female character. Fuck, her legacy character Kamala would better to have as their flagship, Carol is pretty bottom of the barrel in general.

Does Marvel not let its writers do "short run" comics like DC has in the past for Batman and Superman? You know, comics that are really character studies of them like "Superman for all seasons", "Red Son", "All Star Superman", "Whatever happened to the Caped Crusader?", etc?

It seems that if they really want to explore Carol's character without things getting too financially involved, that a limited run comic would be the best way to go about things.

>Carol has only been Captain Marvel for under four years

Holy shit it feels so much longer since they push that as status quo nonstop.

The New 52 is older and that feels more recent.

Brian Reed's Ms. Marvel run definitely focused on it. During Secret Invasion, she got stuck in NYC, alone, and took on a couple of thousand Skrulls by herself. She kind of snapped (depending on how you want to interpret it) and spent the second half of the fight grinning like an idiot. Sample dialogue: "I am so happy I could cry". This while literally ripping Skrulls limb from limb. One extra-strong Skrull she had trouble with, so she flew it up to low orbit, because it still had to breathe and she didn't. Then she took a quick break and chilled out for a few minutes while she watched it asphyxiate. Sample dialogue: "I enjoyed it."

In her current solo it's only hinted at. It was on the very first page: "It's not that I'm a violent person. It's just that some things really, really need punching." How she gets a big grin on her face every time the "oh shit" alert goes off. Interestingly, In issue 5 she thinks to herself, "It's not that I have a death wish...." which she could have considering how reckless she is. To give you an idea, Carol's idea of "investigating a possible AIM secret lab" is to walk in the front door, in costume, and shout "HEY! Any AIM scumbags here?!"

Agreed. I think they should emphasize the PTSD, alcoholism, violence, and recklessness. Having someone who's practically a saint with no effort is a boring morality fable. Having someone struggle against their own inner demons to be a hero is much more interesting.

...

I really like the of an alcholic ptsd riden probbaly closted fuck up with a murder fetish and fascist tendencies as a superman-esque figure in the world but she hasnt been written that well.

Didnt she kill so many Brood she is there cultures version of Satan, Hitler and the Boogeyman all rolled into one?

Not even joking Illuminated Guys run had her best character work.

Marvel Dropped the ball, they should have done a Training Day book with Carol as Denzel as Kamala as the other guy.

supposedly, but a lot of writers forget that. She did blow up their homeworld and all of their coloniesthat she could find. She thought she committed genocide, but it turns out a couple of queens got away.

It really annoys me that this isn't fully explored. An Avenger is flying around who (almost) committed genocide and it's no big deal.

I know, right? I don't know if it's funny or sad that a parody of her is in her top 10 comic runs.

Like. I enjoy Id-skewed personalities like hers, I find the fact that she's come through the decades of editorial bullshit she has stronger for it inspirational, and when looking at all the facts logically I think it's clear that she's far and away the best choice for Marvel's "Wonder Woman".
Also Widow a shit.

Its still genocide even if you dont finish the job

...

I used to like her before they turned her into a man and made her a personification of new age Internet feminism. Nu-Carol is literally not even the sand character as old Carol. KSD and "Captain Marvel" is the worst thing to happen to the character.

Found the Supesfag. :^)

>Do any of the solo comics not ever acknowledge that she likes killing? That seems like that could be an interesting thing to focus on for the character.

They vary wildly on it, as expected for someone with big pushes without a solid core. Shit that would trigger the KSD girl power fanbase really hasn't been seen in years.

>?That seems like the recipe for a really interesting solo run. Why are people saying she doesn't have any interesting "great" comics like Superman, Batman, Spiderman, Wolverine, etc?

Because the comics come first. There is no equivalent of Frank Miller's wolverine, or Noceti and Miller's Daredevil, or Ultimate Spiderman, or Punisher Max for her.

I think it's because there's the mandate that she need to be a representative and a role model that causes them to not push that hard in that direction. Making her into say, a Punisher type character is unthinkable.

Superman has the advantage of a strong rogues gallery, that interact well with his personality.

I hate her because all I know her from is Alias, Civil War II, Spider-Woman, and Ultimates, and she's a complete self centered ass in all of them. I'm sure she's okay in her own stuff but I never read them and I'm not too motivated to do so due to how annoying she is in the stuff I have read.

>Superman has the advantage of a strong rogues gallery, that interact well with his personality.
Yeah like Lex Luthor, and

Jane's the Roman Reigns of comic book characters.
Carol's the Dolph Ziggler.

And bizzaro, and some of the Brainiacs, and Mr. Mxyzptlk.

Superman's third tier villans are better than Carol's first.

Who does Carol have? The brood, and Jack Daniels, and she SHOULD have rogue or mystique as well.

She seems alright. I imagine her and Hal Jordan would have the most horrifically self-destructive and tempestuous relationship possible.

Moonstone? Dr. Minerva's decent. Does Tony Stark count?

Definitely Moonstone

Dr minerva is a literally who to everyone but the most hardcore fans.

Tony only counts if he takes a heel turn.

Actually, a heel turn for Carol wouldn't be such a bad idea, all things considered.

Because the individual X-Women have fuck all to themselves?
You can't just dig up fucking Dust and brand her as your lead female because "oh she's so interesting!". That's not all it takes to build a brand. After 40 years Storm herself got her very first solo ongoing and it was even less noteworthy than anything KSD wrote. Y'all bitching about how Carol has barely any villains but all these roody-poo team players have even LESS material to work with, since they don't have 100 issues to their name.
And it's not even just Carol we're talking about. It's Captain Marvel. Marvel's one true legacy title spanning as many issues as Panther/Namor/Strange and encompassing all sorts of cosmic goodness. Carol inherited all of that too (as she should have, being the franchises' oldest surviving character with the strongest links to Mar-Vell).

Fuck's sake Iron Man used to get just as much shit and in his case it was by design. Was there this much UGH WHY'S THAT FUCKER GETTING A MOVIE STUPID MAHVEL NOT GOING WITH PROWLER INSTEAD shitposting back in 2007?

>major player in universe-shaping events
>equivalent of Frank Miller's wolverine
>famous, iconic shit
...Okay, real talk.
When have these applied to ANY woman in Marvel?
I'm wracking my brain and the closest I can think of is Wanda & House of M. And even that's >Bendis.
Seems like a company-wide issue.

that's a real good question. I can only think of Wanda (House of M, AvX, and Axis), Hope Summers -- also AvX, and Phyla-vell (annihilation and annihilation: conquest).

I like the flawed Carol that others have been citing but ever since Marvel got it into their heads to turn her into their Wonder Woman equivalent and "Strong Female Character" the fuck out of her she's been much less interesting.

Once KSD did that brain tumor amnesia retcon thing I pretty much dropped Carol and haven't looked back. Granted that was a few years ago now but I've never seen any reasons to jump back in and give her a chance again.

Looking at these comments, I realize that the only people who like modern Carol, are musclefags that want her to become a lesbian, develop a dick, and them fuck some random chick while they masturbate alone on the cold and dark corner of the room.

Pffft. NO.
I want modern Carol to fuck ME.

you're completely wrong. I want her to fuck Jessica Drew, not some random chick. And no dick.

try the current Captain Marvel book. It's much different. A lot different from KSD's run.

>dat evil smile
aw yeah

I would but that would mean jumping back in during an event that should not be. Vision is the only Marvel book I'm bothering with at the moment.

...Jean Grey?

So you don't like her, you like the porn that you could have of her, if you changed who she is.

I prefer black Captain Marvel.

She was a more interesting character, she was much more fleshed out.

She is really powerful, I know they are trying to present Carol as the top, but Spectrum as she is called now I think, is a planet wrecker.

Also, she is fucking black. All this progressive bullshit Marvel likes to spit and they have a well developed, very powerful character fans like and they don't give her back the title.

I would have been reading her solo all along.

...

Gotta love how they thought some people would side with her despite her being a femhitler fuckup.

P.S.

A Captain Marvel movie about Monica, would have been a money printing machine.

I fucking love Brie Larson, since United States of Tara, but it's just what I think, a black Captain Marvel movie, a black female character from New Orleans getting her own cape flick, that would have been a bigger deal.

>She was a more interesting character, she was much more fleshed out.
I don't get this part.
She was generic in Avengers and the straight-man in Nextwave.
I at least expected some overblown AW HEHHHHHHHHLL NAW black wimminz sass from all the bigging up she gets here.

So because she isn't a stereotype, you can't understand why she is liked.

Got it.

Sup Forums's not even convinced Black Panther will be a hit. Apparently China hates niggers, or something.
After 3 and a half phases of honky's like FUCK are Marvel gonna make their first female-lead capeflick anything less all-encompassing than a blone white chick.

I understand why she's liked.
"Interesting" just isn't a reason.
Way to prove that right by the way.
