To cut the exact frames virtualdub does a good job.
Xmedia I use when I have eventual trouble on ffmpeg, like opening .avi, put certain subs or encode from weird source formats (like m4v). I know it's all a question of config but sometimes shit gets complicated and I dont go too deep.
In rare cases Sup Forums rejects some webms too, so I use xmedia then.

it's 2 pass, so switch -pass 1 to -pass 2 after running it through the first time.
