My guess based on the previews is that Amethyst challenges Steven cause she thinks the training is pointless or she gets upset over trying it herself and feeling it's useless. Then the sparring match ends up getting heated and becoming a big ass fight, with Steven actually holding his own against Amethyst. Not sure if he beats her or if she almost goes too far and Pearl steps in to stop her before she really hurts Steven. Either way, it ends with Amethyst asking Pearl if she could train her more, wanting to get better like Steven clearly has and be able to beat Jasper next time she shows up.
