I think it was mostly to keep them recognizable as bullets. Otherwise the dog would just hack up some flattened pieces of metal that, ina black and white comic, could be mistaken for spit or something. It would get even worse depending on how much the bullets might fragment.
At best the artist could have drawn the flattened, fragmented slugs and then labeled it.
But then one would have to wonder how Erma could even identify them.

In the prequel to The Ring movies, The Ring 0: Birthday, it reveals Sadako was spit in two. Good Sadako went to the city and grew up, joining a group of actors. Bad Sadako stayed in the countryside with her dad, like how in Japan a lot of successful people sent their retarded kids to live with their rural parents (the creator of Pokemon was misdiagnosed as autistic for example, so his parents sent him to the middle of nowhere where he spent a lot of time alone and hiked in the mountains, fished, played in forests, and bred insects because he didn't want to collect them by killing them. Also watched a lot of a shitty superhero show where kids summoned giant monsters to save the world).
Actors beat good Sadako to death be ause bad Sadako had killed some people psychically trying to protect her, then tried to kill bad Sadako who killed them all, including good Sadako's boyfriend, before good/bad merged again and her dad tried to kill her causing her to lash out psychically and imprint technology with her soul like a horcrux. Excelt she can make more whenever she wants, becoming basically immortal.

If you can get a copy of the Ring manga, get them. Especially 0. They're pretty hard to find scans of and are 10/10 for exposition and explanation on the movie.
Anyway, point is that in an alternate universe where good Sadako had more control over bad Sadako, and people were less shitty like Marvel Comics X-Men humans, Sadako could have become an actress with a husband. Who was okay with her having a penis and a vagina, because pottery over her biological dad being not-Cthulu.

The problem with The Ring comics is the scary parts just don't work. They're either really by the book, or almost funny like pic related. Or a few times aren't portrayed very well, like the main character's ex dying, leaving you wondering what the fuck happened if you haven't watched the movies. But they also give a lot of decent exposition, so the "boring part" is the good part.

Its supposed to be the Japanese version of this. Which I can't find pics of.
Since the Japanese original was older and lower budget, the American version had FAR scarier corpses and death faces. The Japanese version really was kind of that face, the actress tried to stretch her mouth wide while clenched and roll back her eyes, which looks kind of like a seizure or orgasm more than a person turning into a waterlogged dead body in like five seconds. The makeup and CG here sells it better. I think the only exception is Sadako herself, who looks MUCH scarier in the Japanese version.
The manga artist stayed too close to the movie face, and as a result it really does look way too much like ahageo there.
