Why were everyone so happy in the 90s?

>Why was everyone so happy in the 90s?

Because you perceive it to be that way via nostalgia.

Because no one had social media

>you will never be 16 in the 90s

People actually thought the government and corporations had at least some interest in working for them.

The slow unveiling of that lie has been painful.

Because gun violence was at its peak

everyone was happy because they didn't know what islam was.

The 90s felt way more visceral, the internet was barely a thing so everyone was forced to ACTUALLY INTERACT with one another

This shit about neets who spend all day indoors wasn't a thing either, really

Something has gone very wrong

anime and video games were a mistake, so was social media

virtual reality will be the next huge fuckup

Man I can only imagine the social holocaust caused by readily available VR

We're easing into total singularity brother

We were children. We didn't know better.

oh just wait my nig

i hope the sun explodes

We weren't happy in the 90s. We were bored and terribly worried that terrible things were happening just beyond our perception, and we were right.

The truest picture of the 90s I ever saw was that one part in the Simpsons where one hipster asked another, "Dude, are you being sarcastic?" And the other one said, "I don't even know any more."

Till they crash landed into our minds

Literalllyyy

Shit actually went haywire after Columbine since the media caused mass paranoia across the world
Also lack of information about everything and a good economy led people to live happier lives tha today

Now eveybody knows just how shitty the world is

More schizophrenics and less responsibility.
It will be glorious.

no it wont be

people will literally be in another world while the one around them decays and they won't even notice or care

Listened to this for almost 20 years.

Everyday was getting closer to what was suppossed to be a grand time. A wall came down, US and USSR ended a multi decade long pissing contest. lesbians were kissing on tv. The Pres was fukking aids in blue dresses with cigars. Rodney king took a beating to bring some awareness, while a year later a trucker took a brick over the head to re share that awareness. Princess Di went poof in a tunnel, while South park had just come on air. Bush Jr. was hinted early as the next prez for killing more people in texas prisons then any other prison system for a couple years straight, he even cooked the retards. Even Movies were coming into reality with OJ doing his slow motion car chase, then all come to find out he was a butcher, but the glove wouldnt fit over another glove, so he ahd to pay a tab and leave. Best of all, comedy central was stand up comedy, and MTV was actual music videos. Things were good. Carefree relaxed.

Nah that's bullshit, people didn't interact with other significantly more, they mostly watched fucking TV, that was the standard normie activity pre-Facebook

I was already spending several hours a day on IRC and video games in the mid-90s

If you go back far enough people were working 14 hour days in fields or factories

There was never a time when people of all classes spent a huge amount of time on face-to-face social interaction rather than working or engaging in solitary recreation

>live irl with exploding African and Muslim population
>(((google))) tells us that we can literally tap out of society
>open retirement centers where ppl can hook up an IV and live the rest of their lives in middle fucking earth
I'll probably be in my 50s or 60s when they perfect VR. It's the only reason why I haven't killed myself yet

I honestly can't wait to plus into the matrix and live off of pod juice...as long as I can totally pick my own reality.

>no niggers, no spics, no kikes, no numales or feminists

I was 16 in the nineties, and I can tell you that there was nothing magical about the nineties. If you're a neet now you would have been then too. It's down to the choices we make. All that said, I couldn't wait for the nineties to end, but now I can't wait for the nineties to start again.

You have to be over 18 to come here, boy.

OK, maybe for you there was never a time where people actually socialized more.
The 70's 80's and 90's were fucking paty years. Always socializing, hanging out, going to the bar, the beach, the club.
That games back then required people to come over. DnD. Someones kitchen table for a day or two straight. Commodore 64, Atari, Nintendo, Sega. Room full of kids socializing. Dusk comes, Hide n seek in the neighborhood, or bloody mary as kids, Arcade mall and movies as teens, just to hand out.

>ywn have a family and a puppy in a mostly white 50's neighborhood and die tenderly in the late 10's

I really dislike being so young in what seems like such a bad time for the world and most of all my country.

bullshit, red alert and mortal kombat was the shit. And starfox-starfox64

yes but now we have waifu simulators

soon to be virtual reality waifu simulators and sex dolls that dont even have to looks real because you can put on the headset

federal reserved tricked everyone into thinking they had money only for it to blow up in their face in 2001 and again in 2008

illusion of security and the illusion of wealth and prosperity

yeah, but I will admit there is a decline in good games now, almost every game this year has sucked.

yeah i agree

games used to be made with love and passion n shit, pushing the shitty hardware and getting around barriers that it made

now they just churn out shit to make money

Yes, we spoke a different dialect of english then.

Conversations NEVER devolved into bullshit.

If I say, "hitler was right" you would know depending on my inflection and tone of voice and context and situation and my face and my background and culture wether I was joking or not and what I actually meant.

Now if I say "hitler was right" people think you are a nazi.

I hate you illiterate millennials, you killed our language.

You all deserve to be gassed.

Omg,have u played no man's sky? It's like the best ever
4 real

>I hate you illiterate millennials, you killed our language.

It's not millenials; they're not smart enough or old enough overall to do that.

It's (((leftists))) from the Frankfurt School who specifically use language as a tool to confuse and progress their ideologies.

Because the useful idiots hadn't quite taken over the world yet.

Social media and mobile phones have fucked up the current generations. Now they try to shut out the world if they don't get instant gratification. In some ways 1990 - 2000 is a world apart

what is it

>no black people in op

Hmm, really makes you think

no one has their phones out in the photo

no one squeezing a moment to death by putting it up on social media ASAP to get mucho likes from the girl who will never bang them

>tfw the (((terrorists))) actually won

there are two

>muslims and niggers interject themselves into your vr world because youre being racist by excluding them

90s kids are the last generation of teenagers who grew up without the internet. Technologies have exacerbated negative behaviours in people.

Looking back to it, ignorance really was bliss. People knew back then the world was mostly fucked or at least they had a rough idea. But you could easily tune out of it by not watching TV. And it was too tedious to research it anyway. We weren't contantly bombarded with the PC culture every minute of our life.
Everything was magical and special because you had limited access to life and culture. Now it's all there instantly on your computer which is great of course but also killed innocence. You see it with kids today, they all look and sound so blasé, like they've already seen everything and in a sense they have.

Now people understand everything is fucked and they don't trust anything or anyone anymore, nor should they.

Nostalgia aside, it was certainly a better time in most respects.

I was born in 1988, so I got to experience most of my childhood in the 90s. The 90s were the GOAT decade, in my opinion. In the 90s, we didn't have to deal with cancerous shit like smartphones, Facebook, Reddit, Tumblr, etc.

tfw it's been almost 15 years since 9/11
tfw we'll be stuck in the berenstain timeline forever

I grew up without the internet for a while. No friends.

It wasn't until late childhood that I got muh computer, and then all I did was play shit like that one point-n-click fish game, or age of empires. Still no friends.

Then Steam happened and I got friends online and played Zombie Master.

The internet made me more social, not less. There's a lot I'm forgetting probably, but oh well.

When I heard the towers fell (didn't see videos of it until well after), I just realized how incompetent and shit our government was.

It wasn't until later that I realized on top of that they were also super fucking corrupt.

The early 2000s destroyed my optimism.

>something has gone very wrong

What are you talking about? You guys think about dumb people doing "degenerate" things on the internet too much.
The world is obviously nicer and safer than ever.

Simply put, because the dollar had better buying power, the job market didn't suck dick, terrorism wasn't a daily norm, new wave fucktards feminism wasn't a problem yet, nu-male wasn't yet a thing, and the corruption of the western governments (US & EU primarily) wasn't so blatantly fucking obvious.

We had to jerk off with imagination and if we were lucky, physically cum stained polaroids of your mom.

its all due to the postmodern (((thinkers)).
this rotten philosophy destroys everything the west hold up and built through the last 2000 years. nihilism and radical relativism is the root of all the syndromes we can observe today: be it SJW, Gender non sense, BLM, worshipping of gays and all the other fuckups

Muslims were universally considered subhuman.
Trannies were still considered mentally ill.
Nigs were in their place and we didn't have a president that told them that chimping out is OK.
Propaganda in media and movies was subtle. Now they're not even trying to hide it.

If you missed on a childhood in the 90s, I'm sorry.

We were all kids, we were growing up with society and our families telling us that we could have been and done everything we wished, that the the world was our oyster and that it was the best possible world to live in.
Then we grew up and find out that the world had turn to shit and that most of us will live worst lives than our parents.
The bliss of ignorance is what we all had back then.

Rate of innovation. Bush autism and Obama niggerism slowed progress.

>Why were everyone so happy in the 90s?
It was the peak of Pax Americana: Soviet Union was defeated, no major conflicts, economy in a good shape, less polarized political scene. That'd be my guess.

Because it used to be us against "them". Now it's us against us, as people fall into the divide an conquer bs.

I remember being a teenager in the 90's.

> No stupid sjw's
> Liberals then weren't half as retarded
> Economy was in great shape (first job while working in high school I got a signing bonus... At 16 lol, they were that desperate for people to work for them)
> People weren't afraid
> Mosh pits
> Marilyn Manson was edgy
> Goldeneye 64

I was a lot happier in the 90's. I was in the class of '01 and we were all excited because we were the '01 class.

9/11 changed a lot of shit. Ever since then the world has gotten and continues to grow darker. I don't remember hearing the sort of arguments we have now. I never saw any of the stupidity that is so rampant now.

I'm actually fucking depressed thinking about it. Shit's really gone downhill since then. The 80's weren't really that great, the 90's just were awesome, then this last decade and a half have just gotten shittier.

I really wish I was born in the 80s so I could get my career started then.

I'm most worried about getting a good* job.

What fucking happened to the economy, how'd the elites fuck it up so bad?

Did you mean born in the 70? Because millennials start from the ones born in the 80s and their shit has been equally fucked up. I was born in 1982 and my life is complete shit no matter what.

Happy days gone past, never to come back again.

Nothing but misery.

Everyone knows it.

Everyone can feel it.

youtube.com/watch?v=RYbe-35_BaA

lol, god I remember smoking inside and people not acting like they were about to shit themselves.

God this video makes me sad.

It wasn't that much better.

Not really, there was a school of thought especially after the fall of the Berlin Wall that liberal democracy was the inevitable and final form of government (a famous book by Francis Fukuyama deals with this subject called the "End Of History"). The DotCom boom also helped with the positivity of that era.

You're a idiot. I was in my teens in the 90's. There were plenty of people on welfare in the 90's. Also there was no great "connection" between people. Where I grew up it was actually more violent. Every age looks back at the previous thinking it was better. We looked back at the early 80's/70's. It was better in the way of TV. They're still running Seinfeld, friends, Simpsons 24/7. Today TV is too edgy. Too compartmentalised. Although it was watched on tube television. No HD, no digital. Anyways enjoy your nostalgia

>cheaper prices
>no transgender bullshit
>no feminist bullshit
>tech developing rapidly
>fall of communism

Yeah it felt like a fresh new morning, until Americans fucked middle east up, transferred all production to china and made it a superpower, and caused market crisis which hurt Western economy.

Fuck you america

>forced to ACTUALLY INTERACT with one another
hello my 14yo friend, please stop spitting shit about stuff you dont know about

Vidya were already big in the 90s

First Rance was in 89 iirc, then was available on win95, MTG was a thing, nerds with no social life were a thing, normies would call each other than meet in someones basement to play whatever then go out when mum had enough of their shit.

people werent talking to strangers in the street because they had no smartphones you fucking retard. It was the same shit as today just with flashy colors everywhere.

Kids still play hockey in my street faggot

>muh smartphones are why society is ded!
no, its because vagoos can vote.

911 absolutely fucked up everything. It started one huge domino effect we're still living with.

No 911 means:

No Afghanistan.
No Iraq.
No brutal recession in early 2000s outside tech.
Kerry or Dick Gephardt becomes President, 2004.
No Obamacare.
No Isis.
No Libya, Syria, or Arab spring.
No battle tested killer sky drones.
No Jeb.
No Trump.
No BLM.
No race baiting.

Fuck, what a world we could have had if a few vicious muzzies with box cutters had been stopped that day

>Why were everyone so happy in the 90s?

That pic. Fucking depressing.

trolling on the internet was fucking digital honey in the late 90s

I remember renaming The Bad Touch to a bunch of random mp3 songs. Whatever I saw others downloading. It was good shit.

youtube.com/watch?v=xat1GVnl8-k

You could go into chatrooms and no one had a fucking clue they were getting baited. You had about a 95% rage rate. You could go into yahoo christian teens and point out that gays should be stoned to death in Lev 20:13. You could tell every person that you were 19/f/ca and they would believe you. You could ask for an "~~A/S/L CHECK!~~" and find your next target.

It truly was a magical place.

Porn was frustrating but most parents didn't even have a clue back then.

Fall Out Boy didn't exist yet

Agree on the TV, and the violence. Seriously though, think about the typical attitude on New Years Eve 1999 vs New Years Eve 2002.

Yeah there were people on welfare, yeah there were still problems, but fuck man, then compared to now?

Just take the last six years. Six years ago, if you would have told me Bruce Jenner was going to put on a dress and win Woman of the Year, I would have laughed at how stupid that sounded.

Look at the geopolitical landscape, how much it's changed and how unbelievably stupid people have gotten in such a short amount of time.

Even in the early 00's if someone would try even the lightweight shit that's going on on college campuses right now they'ed either be punched in the face or outright laughed at.

I feel, every single day, that satire has taken over reality.

Most underrated post ITT

Kill yourself, jew.

The jews did 9/11. No jews died that day.

Tfw. Why did I stop wearing my polo shirts with the collar up. That shit was cool. It became douchee at some point. I can't remember when. I think enough time has passed

Dude, Napster.

Also class of '01. 9/11 was a sad day and everything does feel different around that point in time.

Because the world only gets worse.

yeah, I fucked up and didn't mention specifically this was on Napster.

Back in the glory days of the early internet, Napster would allow you to share the *.mp3 of whatever folder you set. Other file sharers afterwards allowed every file type.

These would be direct transfers peer to peer. Some of the file sharers rewarded you by including your file share size next to your name in the chatroom.

I remember sharing my whole C: because I wanted the biggest share possible.

Turned that shit off when I noticed people on the internet were snagging my parents financial statements and excel charts. Whoops.

Fucked up there! 90's were sweet.

Wrong.

The 1990s were an objectively better time. Aside from internet speed, very little has improved since then and in a lot of ways things have gone backwards.

It was awesome. The games were awesome. World has become a serious disappointment and 9/11 is the point where the whole operation began to come off the rails.

America was still majority white and white culture still dominated. Late 90's and on is when black culture became dominate and now everything is niggerfied ghetto shit and our culture is now 100% focused on sex, drugs, acting stupid and ghetto, and violence.

>Nah that's bullshit, people didn't interact with other significantly more, they mostly watched fucking TV

Maybe you didn't ! I graduated highschool in 93. I'd get home from school and go right back out to hang with friends, ride ATCs, go out on the boat or jetski and just fuck around. We would get together work on each others cars go to parties. Weekends were a blast everyone got together and if someone was missing we would go hunt them down. Fuck I was never home to watch TV. I miss that time so much. We all had each others back and we were always there for each other.
There was no political sjw feminazi bullshit with the girls.

One other thing to note that I don't think is mentioned yet:

90's internet didn't actually have all the answers at your fingertips.

Wanted a cheat code for your video game? Wanted a numerical save code for games like megaman? Wanted to know where the fuck x item was or how to beat a boss?

Good luck! Most search engines were shit. Even so, you were likely going to find your answer on an Angelfire site with red text and a single jpg tiled 500 times as the background.

Did you want to learn about a famous dead person that wasn't Einstein or Hitler? Good fucking luck. If you think Wikipedia is open to manipulation, 90s internet was much worse.

There were also no aggregation websites like reddit or fark or slashdot that allowed you to quickly find new and interesting content.

Most of that spread through AOL instant messenger between your buddies

That's a good point. Maybe we were always on 7 levels of irony.

lol, do you even Prima Guide?

Also, cuckolding was something you only heard about in a dictionary or classic mythology. I never saw big black dick or cock cages until late 2000s, maybe later. And so began a terrible addiction to cuck porn, but that's a story for another time.

there is no way I would be able to convince my parents to buy one

because America had a president named Clinton
dont forget: you can bring the golden age back

I did notice there was almost no blacks in porn back then

Also, porn back then was pretty fucking horrible. You had to download one image at a time, and they were mediocre quality.

Today you can get some glorious amateur shit on gonewild or pretty much kink you have you can find some premo fappable shit.

Back then anal pics were often a mixed bag...

>Also, porn back then was pretty fucking horrible. You had to download one image at a time, and they were mediocre quality.

Wasn't even worth the time back then. I'd just hit my dad's hidden stash of VHS porn tapes

why are all these threads with people watching the seinfeld finale in times square popping up recently?

Conformist blacks haven't embrace thug life completely yet where they believe it's thing once should embrace to being truely black so you have blacks actually trying to better themselves during the time period opposed to now you must conform to thug rap and hip hop and control territories of pavement and harrass people etc.

They think life will fall into their hands like famous rappers if they hang out on corners and act like closet homos.
Blacks got so gay with rap and hip hop it literally allowed electronica to exit the gay night club scene and enter the mainstream without anyone batting an eye.

>Sup Forums here, this may sound strange but I want to ask, what was the world like pre 9/11?
>Why were everyone so happy in the 90s?

We grew up in the 80's with Terminator and Robocop and shit. Stuff like Total recall.

Future was Dystopian but bright. After 2000 we'd have colonies on the moon. Venture into space. Cyborg robots everywhere. Beyond 2000 was the meme. All problems solved then.

Then the day before 9/11 Donald Rumsfeld comes put claims the pentagon lost 2 trillion dollars. 9/11 happens the next day day everyone gets BTFO. Few years later the GFC happens. Bunch of bail outs. 800 billion but lets not forget the Fannie/Freddie guarantee so theres another 5 trillion on the books.

Elites robbed us. America was the beacon of the world. They would stand up. Civil war 2 right? Never happened.

They just took all our money nothing happened. We have shitty phones that datamine everything and not much else has changed. No hoverboards. No colonies on mars. No cyborgs, not really.

We were robbed of 20 years of human evolution and nobody lifted a fucking finger.

it's the thing one should embrace*

Uh. I did, nigger.
Neighborhood football, baseball, night games over the summer.
People, especially young people, had a healthier mix of social activity.
Starcraft LAN parties was just starting to be a thing.

notice in your pic the lack of people hunched over texting

That gave me an odd feel.

Just imagine that same scenario occurring today.

I feel like it would be weird. But why? Feels as though we are so hyper aware nowadays. Hyper sensitive. More volatile.

I just masturbated to red shoe diaries on scrambled showtime
