Visiting Japan feels thread

>currently visiting sapporo from australia, my second time visiting japan, and first time being in hokkaido
>staying with a friend in the suburbs, who watches tv loudly until 1am and then wakes me up at 7am
>architecture, weather, and fashion feel like ukraine in 1998
>try to speak japanese with a stranger, turns out they’re korean
>walking in public and see another wh*Te, or worse, a fellow australishit in ski gear, reminding me of how I’ll literally never properly fit in here
>reminded that five years of japanese classes are useless in actually communicating with japanese people or reading basic information signs, because the classes focused on writing and keigo roleplay instead of kanji sight recognition and listening comprehension
>just want a bit of attention so I can practice my japanese, but have to be a sheep like everyone else
>have pretended to be lost in the city just to get a bit of conversation practice with strangers
>the only people in public who seemed happy to talk to me when I genuinely asked for directions were a couple of middle school girls, who walked me to where I was going and back

...

just use tinder or something and message some Japanese girls

I’m not interested in that, I just want to get better at the language, make some friends, and enjoy the culture.

weeboid btfo

you can get better at the language and make friends by joining a dating website

Imagine hating being white so much that you post retarded shit like this

I'll be visiting Japan soon and I don't know SHIT about Japanese.

>try to speak japanese with a stranger

You don’t understand, I already have a girlfriend, and am discerning a life of celibacy, so dating/hookup sites aren’t my thing.
I don’t hate being white at all, I just get irrationally frustrated and self-conscious when I see other whites here.
You can get by if you just know how to ask if they speak English, and know what manners to use in common situations.

Why the fuck do you think you're justified in being there but other white people aren't? Are you genuinely retarded?

>>You can get by if you just know how to ask if they speak English, and know what manners to use in common situations.
Alright, that makes me feel a bit better.
I've never even been out of the USA so this is some next level shit for me.

you're a brainlet, aren't you?

near the base of Mt. Fuji right now
fucking hate this place with a passion

pissed on my own hands a week or so ago

There is a trailing edge.

>be in japan
>see niggers and pooskins literally everyday
I thought japan was supposed to be a nigger free country

You see, Trevor, he is the only sane man in a sea of intellectually inferior humans of white pigmentation, so only he can visit Nippon without ashaming his fellow white people with their behaviour

Yes, a weeb that is too socially retarded to speak a language he worked half a decade for is intellectually superior to other people of "white pigmentation" as if.

waitto piggu go home

Are you racist?

I was being sarcastic.

Ah okay, it's a bit hard to tell irony on the internet dude, you can't really blame me

no one cares about your blog

Sorry, most Americans have autism due to being vaccinated.
Please excuse him.

You don't have to fuck them
Girls with crushes make great friends

Nope, i just dislike people with dark skin.
It makes me feel like i'm looking at poo.

I know that feel, being white sulista myself.

Which part of Japan?

t. guy that probably got circumcised

t.jap

>I can't take a joke
>I'm also a meximutt
hmm yes
the autism

>>I'm also a meximutt
what did he mean by this?

In mirrors

ITT inefficient Australian weeb and american autism

Ill be living in Japan soon. Whats Hiroshima like? Does it have a nightlife? And no bomb jokes pls. Its a serious question.

I herd it's nightlife is BOOMING har har har

>Does it have a nightlife?
doesn't have much of any life any more m8

>irrationally
>asks why
Learn to read Pedro.

xD LOL

That still makes it seem like you have some sort of mental disability, perhaps even more so

So sorry you have to see this.

>5 years studying japanese
>still doesn't realize no one but yourself can teach you kanji

Most signs in Japan have English on them too, so it won’t be too bad at all. Hope you have a nice time.
>hate this place
>pissed on my hands
Well that’ll do it every time.
It was extremely obv, honestly
From what I recall three years ago it was fairly quiet compared to other major cities in Kansai - there are lots of nice restaurants though. I’m pretty sure there’s a uni there so there’s bound to be stuff to do.

You're just using irrationality as an excuse so you don't have to face the fact you're a self loathing faggot.

Tokyo

but if he's self loathing wouldn't he be easily able to face that fact

Would he?
"I just hate people who share my skin colour or even worse nationality for some reason reason lol I don't know why though it's a mystery"

This is for real

IKTF bro, i felt kinda awkward too when i saw my countrymen in Thailand

that's different though, thailand is where whites go to behave like trash. Japan is a magnet for weebs, but it is okay to see a normie there

This retarded board thinks it’s a race self-hating issue, but it’s not that. I admit the reason is probably retarded, but I guess when I’m trying to fit in and everything, seeing other tourists like me just makes me feel like even more of an outsider. I’m probably a weeaboo in some ways, but I’m not interested in anime, manga or Japanese girls.
I usually say hi to fellow countrymen and an nice of course, but seeing other tourists just reminds me of who I am.

better than Wh*toido desu

I'm not white. I feel like i see myself and cannot help recognizing myself as the Japanese when i see other Japanese in Thailand or Romania or U.K or anything even though i'm not in Japan. That makes me feel reluctant to see my countrymen.
>reminds me of who i am.
I'm ok with me being recognized as a foreigner and don't think too much of it. Do you feel so irritating to be an outsider?

It's ok to be recognized as jap by others, but i don't want to be faced with myself as jap

>having enough money to travel first world countries
One can dream.

>"a stranger" (singular noun)
>"they" (third personal plural pronoun, subjective case)

any luck with the middle schoolgirls?

>Do you feel so irritating to be an outsider?
I guess I’ve subconsciously pictured my visits to Japan as experience to go towards living here, rather than just tourist holidays. Whenever I go somewhere, I prefer meeting locals, exploring the place myself, and just immersing myself in the ordinary time of the place, rather than just doing sightseeing and only ever meeting fellow tourists. I do like meeting other foreigners who are living there and are part of it all, but seeing other tourists just ruins that immersion I suppose. Lots of Australians go to Niseko to ski at this time of year, so I’ve been meeting them quite often in train stations and stuff.

The Korean thing wasn’t just one person, it happens pretty often, and happened the last time I was in Japan as well. I couldn’t tell the difference between Koreans and Japanese at all three years ago, so I would sometimes ask ‘locals’ for directions to find that they actually aren’t local and don’t speak Japanese.

Ah, then things are different. Actually if i lived in Argentina and learn Spanish there, meeting and hanging around with the Japanese classmates in the same language school would be the last thing i want, because it spoils entire vipe. IKTF bro.

btw Niseko is filled with aussies now iirc. Why?

There are very few decent places to ski in Australia. Some people say Hokkaido has the best snow in the world, and it’s certainly the best spot within a reasonable distance of Australia. I’ve never been to Niseko, nor gone skiing for that matter, but lots of Australians who are into skiing make yearly trips to there, and I hear a lot of Australians own houses there.

Yeah that’s a good analogy.
What part of JP are you in?

>walking in public and see another wh*Te, or worse, a fellow australishit in ski gear, reminding me of how I’ll literally never properly fit in here
This is me whenever I see other Americans (not sure about whites in general though) in another country. I haven't been to Japan yet but I'm planning on going later on in the year when I get my next vacation. Honestly a little nervous, what was it like visiting for the first time?

(Geographical) central of Tokyo lad

>Whittu Piggu Gou Homu
How are you not meant to laugh at this? Even with the crowd, it comes across as being savaged by a bunny.

>Honestly a little nervous, what was it like visiting for the first time?
It was good, I recommend it. My Japanese was very basic when I first went, but as long as you know your manners and when to use them, you’ll be fine. You’ll meet people who speak English, and also probably pick up some Japanese expressions there. Almost all signs have English on them, and public transport has English announcements, so you’ll be fine.

btw are you "living" in Sapporo?

My Japanese is like Level 3 (Intermediate going onto the next level if I were to put it in those terms) but I've been told it's no big deal to use it everywhere you go, just when appropriate because chances are people will speak to you in English. I can't wait for the public transport though. Public transport here is so fucking awful every other country I've traveled has it above us in so many ways.

Where in Japan did you visit the first time? I'm going to be in the Tokyo area the whole time. Friends live in Saitama and Kanagawa I think so I'll visit those places outside Tokyo metropolis.

>I'm going to be in the Tokyo area the whole time.
It's like you are stuck with Berlin and don't go to other places like Munich, Koeln lad
T. Not op

I wish I had time to visit other places but I'm only there for a week.

Sad af

Imagine if someone came to the US and just spent a week in Manhattan.
Take a day or two and go somewhere close by. A two-hour trainride won't takrle too much from your day. Leave early in the morning and come back in the evening.

I'm planning on going to Nikko or Kamakura for one or two of those days.

Kinda felt the same way last time I was there.
>stay at friends 1LDK for two weeks
>he isn't a neet but his place looks like a hoarder's mess
>he has night job, so even on his days off he wouldn't be out of bed until 3pm
>didn't want me to drive his car and I was stuck without a rental for the first week because hatsumode
>rode his bicycle everywhere for about a week straight
>try to use Japanese with anyone and they just want to practice english with me
It wasn't that bad though, he only read manga late at night so the light was on all the time I was trying to sleep. I did get to use Japanese with a lot of older people.

>I just want to get better at the language

have you considered studying?

Filthy Weeaboos BTFO once more!

No, just visiting friends for a couple of weeks before uni starts up. I’ve never been to Hokkaido, so it’s also an opportunity to do some tourism.
I went to Osaka, Kyoto (and Nara), Hiroshima, Tokyo, and Ibaraki. It was actually a school trip over about three weeks or so, so we were only in each place for 1-5 days at a time.

>be in japan
>keep being mistaken for japanese
>tourists think I'm a local, ask me for directions in japanese
>got dragged into public survey a couple times

What Happened In Japan After The Tsunami?
youtube.com/watch?time_continue=1091&v=ObSo4VxCFzs

surprisingly such things never happened in korea
why is that?

i would really like to spend a month or two travelling japan next summer even though im not a weeaboo by any means

nipponland just seems pretty comfy

Protip OP: If you're studying a foreign language at home, there are two real tests of ability which let you know whether you are really getting anywhere, or treading water and kidding yourself.

Obviously to test your speaking ability you need a conversation partner or tutor, but for listening and reading, the litmus test is this:

LISTENING: Can you turn on the main grown-up radio station in your target language and get the gist of what they're talking about, regardless of the topic?

READING: Can you open one of the top 2 newspapers in the country where your target language is used and understand any random page you turn to?

Forget exams, this is the real test as far as I'm concerned. Because newspapers and radio broadcasts are targetted at adults of average level of education, so they make everything reasonably easy to understand for this market. If you don't understand more than 15% of this kind of content, you need to practice more.

Fuck Jap cartoons, visual novels, regular novels too as well as movies and TV dramas and all that shit. You need real content to actually make progress and learn high-level vocabulary.

>I just get irrationally frustrated and self-conscious when I see other whites here.
transracialists wakeup call, you'll never be japanese :DD

Also OP the trick to getting comfy in Asia is to stop trying to fit in.

You can't, so all trying will do is make you stressed out and miserable, so you’ll lose even whatever natural charisma you had in the beginning that wasn’t lost in translation.

In fact you’re best off explicitly trying not to fit in. Because if you can get comfortable doing this, you will make people around you feel more at ease.
