Gary Johnson’s vice presidential nominee Bill Weld proved it in a recent interview with Revolt TV, when he slammed certain types of firearms.
While discussing his position on gun rights, Weld said that rifles can be turned into weapons of mass destruction, and that handguns are “worse than” semi-automatics. “The five-shot rifle, that’s a standard military rifle; the problem is if you attach a clip to it so it can fire more shells and if you remove the pin so that it becomes an automatic weapon, and those are independent criminal offenses,” Weld said. “That is when they become, essentially a weapon of mass destruction.
The problem with handguns probably is even worse than the problem of the AR15.”
Weld also said he believed no one on a terrorist watch list should be allowed to purchase guns, even though, as the Huffington Post pointed out, it isn’t too hard for an innocent person to end up on the list.

Any firearm that can be “readily converted” to fire full auto by simple removal or substitution of parts is legally considered a machine gun and was classified as such back in the 1980s.
In general, a firearm must not be able to be converted to full auto without physical modification to the firearm itself and that modification, whether or not it succeeds, is sufficient evidence that you attempted to make an illegal machine gun. It is a felony to do so.
So no, completely, totally, utterly false. You cannot simply convert a semi-auto to full auto by pulling a pin.

30 rounds is standard capacity, not five. You don't attach a clip to anything, It's a device used to load ammunition into a magazine, and you don't just remove a pin to make an AR full auto. You need a lightning link or a completely different fire control group, neither of which are cheap or easy to obtain legally.

You probably can modify an AR-15 to full auto if you have access to a machine shop and know what you're doing. However, if you get caught, they -do- make a federal case out of it. By the way, simple possession of the parts required to convert a gun into a full auto weapon is treated the same as possession of the completed gun.
