Super late edition!

Every statement out of Joyce the last dozen strips makes her sound like she is about to have a break down.

Also everyone in the comments hates Mike

so how does patreanon get summoned? do we do a little dance? make a little love?

we pray and hope he shows up in our hour of need

Becky's left my field of vision for a few seconds! She's vanished from existence!

Sacrificing a quirky lesbian virgin or two should do the trick.

Someone should probably edit menacing into panels 3 and 4.

Also, I wonder why the dad is still around. Will Carol call him to have one more showdown before this parent arc is over? Will the separation/divorce get kicked off?

It also implies that Joyce and her father are deaf in their right ears, having not noticed the audible FWUMP.

Also, note how Joyce cut herself off mid-sentence. It seems to mean that she was expecting Becky to interrupt her at the very mention of her name.

Also, who the fuck are Agatha and The Rachels?
Also also, how shitty of a band name is "Agatha and The Rachels"?

...

Off topic, but there is a band called Rachel's.

They're pretty good.

>Panel two
So whoever was annoyed by them ignoring the whole rebound thing, take a look at the entirety of their communication about that subject before their relationship falls apart or whatever.

>cough up those Arby's sauce packets
>confirmed Girl-on Girl
>We already glued our hands together

Did...did Willis have a seizure so bad he suffered brain damage?

>Confirmed lesbians? This I GOTTA see! Come on, Rebound!

Sarah: "Ruth and Billie are in an unhealthy codependent suicide pact."
Becky: "my girlfriendz really light lol"

And we're *STILL* not supposed to hate Becky?!

That was me.

And yeah, I'm taking this to mean that Willis just doesn't care about Dina recognizing she's a rebound, and that from here on out it's all lovey and/or dovey.

Also, what the fuck does "Cough up those Arby's sauce packets" mean?

What really pisses me off is that Becky's mom apparently tried to an hero herself, and she found her on the damn bed. So Sarahs comment about Ruth trying to kill herself and they found her on the bed should've been the perfect fucking moment for Willis to give Becky some emotion besides "HAHA I AM GAY!"

You think Willis remembers that? That was like. a month ago. He has to fill his head with Transformers knowledge, asshole.

I believe one of the things is that Becky does her whole "It's Becky!™" shtick as a means of coping with her repressed feelings about the situation, but that doesn't matter much when we barely ever SEE a relaxed, open, honest side to the character.

I don't think we've ever seen Becky as anything but "It's Becky!™" since the time Joyce rejected her.

Gay is the only emotion that matters.

>They found them both [...] wanting to die
I know that Billie wanted to kill herself at some point because she thought she was unattractive and useless. I think she got past that as soon as Ruth and her started cohabitating.

Also it was only a half-day of sleeping in you fucks.

did.... she not catch sarahs last comment? is she running to find billie or away from a situation she just made horribly awkward
i cannot tell what im supposed to think about this last panel

When is Willis going to do a Dina/Becky porn?

>what the fuck does "Cough up those Arby's sauce packets" mean?
It's a call-back to this strip. (which for some reason isn't tagged with Joyce)

>Also, what the fuck does "Cough up those Arby's sauce packets" mean?

It sounds like they had a bet, and Joyce lost.

This character amazes with how obnoxious she can be in almost every issue she is in.

>that clear difference in art after a little over a year

Jesus, Willis, what happened?

how the hell is someone supposed to remember a shitty joke after a year and a month?

i remembered

Why is Dina attracted to this living construct of pure, unrelenting quirkiness again?

it's time to leave, user

Don't forget that one year is akin to about a week of events in the Walkyverse. Earth-Dumbing, perhaps?

Well, the DoA universe, at least. Still, even remembering a shitty throwaway bet for a week afterwards isn't worth the gray matter.

I believe the reason is that Becky is the only person she's met who didn't immediately look down upon her for being autistic.

Speaking of which, how do we know it's autism and not just ass burgers?

>Also it was only a half-day of sleeping in you fucks.

Not to some of those Patreon people. Does anybody have the screenshots of that one dude completely breaking down in the comments section because somebody said he had obviously never dealt with depression?

because thats pretty much all dina is too, just in a different way

They're on the doa-edits tumblr.

>Becky in a nutshell
youtu.be/Fz50hqWrHUY

No the guy did get help with his depression. It's just the people on Patreon said his experiences don't matter when complaining about how shitty Ruth's depression was depicted

After they invalidated his depression AND Willis stepped in to be condescending he broke down and started really tearing into the comic and Willis but back off and begged for forgiveness a few comments later

it was super sad really

I've literally stopped feeling bad for certain people who comment frequently on that site.

Cerberus at least uses the paragraph long posts as a therapy, so congrats on that, but other assholes are obviously just trying to out-privilege each other.

Continuity for the most hardcore fans.

My mind is like a steel trap for bullshit.

Also, I spent a lot of time looking at old strips back when I was disagreeing heavily with commenters and looking for proof. It helps that his strip is really easy to find examples of if you remember who's in them.

Dude was pretty sympathetic. Apparently he read Willis comics because his mother was really abusive to him, so since Willis 'claims' to have gone through the same thing, he was trying to use it as a healing process of sorts.

The difference is that Dina is far more likable.

Asperger's is a form of autism, basically the milder version. Or at least it used to be, but now it's been removed from the official diagnostic manual. Now it's all just autism.

Hardly; she's just less disliked because she's not vastly overrated like Becky is. Though I recall that before Becky returned to the comic, Dina was the fan-favorite.

Becky doesn't give a fuck as long as there is going to be a show.

>Hardly; she's just less disliked because she's not vastly overrated like Becky is.
They're both overrated and beloved by Willis' fans (people fucking love Dina). You're just comparing an ok character to a terrible one.

I used to think Willis was a ten-year-old trapped in a man's body. Now I'm starting to think he's an alien infiltrator trying to understand our Earth humor.

Okay, I've figured out why Mike's heel turn is pissing me off: it's not his style.

See, Mike has always been antagonistic, never an outright villain. He'll say something mean and/or thoughtless to whoever he's talking to because he wants to hurt people, not break them.

That's why his intention to psychologically destroy Danny makes no fucking sense. Mike's never been about the long game, because the long game means more effort. He doesn't care about anyone... certainly not enough to spend time seducing somebody he barely knows.

Kind of interesting that this is the first time he's been seen since dropping that harsh truthbomb on Billie and Walky, ain't it? Was Dorothy there at the time
And Willis never called out the original "You never dealt with anything bad REALLY!" asshole, because of course he fucking didn't.
The DSM-V is a whole shitshow, which has led some medical professionals to go "Fuck you, we're not using your crappy bodge-job of a manual"
>characters drawn in reasonable halfway-house between SMBC and DoA
>Becky's fringes covering most of the right side of her face, yet still somehow transluscent
It's genuinely amazing.

considering the smile in panel 4, I think it's an intentional snipe.

Joyce has long since lost her concept of object permanence.

Becky's kinda like the Manic Pixie dream girl in that she's actually awful but everyone seems enamored with her rather than annoyed.

I want to doggy style a baby into Joyce and have a shotgun wedding as she cries tears of despair and obedience to Jesus.

>tears of despair
You want Joyce to not want the relationship? Like entrapment?

Oh as IF Joyce wouldn't be the kind of crazy nutjob that pokes holes into condoms in the name of God. Turnabout is fair play.

I like Dina to a degree because I also love dinosaurs but also because she's not maliciously selfish like most of the other characters. She actively wants to be a good person and is generally misunderstood by her "friends" since they treat her like a child all the time. I guess I just really identify with that, because I was in that position for years.

the sex is wild

We got a hint of it once when Dina told Becky her dad was looking for her, and she actually got depressed by it because everything she was trying to put together for herself was on the verge of falling apart.

She even admitted that the "depressed mopey" thing wasn't who she wanted to be, that she wanted to be the loud and fun type.

Granted by "loud and fun" she's become more "loud and obnoxious", but at least we got some hint that she's aware of her own facade.

well it's not like dina herself has any personality traits other than "speaks funny" and "is obsessed with dinosaurs"

Whenever Becky is out of sight, other characters should be asking; "where's becky?" and they do!

Have you really never been with a light gal whoyou just wanted to tie to a kite and see if you could fly them real high in a thunderstorm to tame lightning?

This is Sup Forums, I can't be the only person with that fetish.

Every single picture of becky makes it looks like you should be replacing her dialogue with "I HAVE BRAIN DAMAGE!"

Meanwhile, in a better comic, Shauna solves problems.

"Loud and fun" is the characteristic sign of immaturely handling depression.

That excuse doesn't make me cut Amethyst any slack, so it certainly isn't going to do anything for Becky.

TRIGGERED

>After they invalidated his depression AND Willis stepped in to be condescending he broke down and started really tearing into the comic and Willis but back off and begged for forgiveness a few comments later

Oh man, where can I read this?

>That's why his intention to psychologically destroy Danny makes no fucking sense.

I think it's more that he smells the bullshit keeping Danny and Ethan from fucking like gay rabbits and is going to seduce one of them out of spite to make the other explode in a fit of jealousy and actually take action in the relationship.

Mike is thoughtlessly cruel, but also likes to break down hypocrisy and lies.

The why not just TELL Danny and Ethan to start dating. THere are ways to accomplish things WITHOUT needlessly overcomplicated plots that could end up hurting others

It's like building a new door in a wall that requires a 32 digit password, a retinal scan and to beat a hard DDR game when he could simply walk through the open door that was there the whole time

>>Mike is thoughtlessly cruel, but also likes to break down hypocrisy and lies.

The poor behaviour of others is no excuse for poor behaviour on his part.

Because he's Mike, basically. Telling them would be boring (and they probably wouldn't listen anyway), and hurting people is a bonus.

so it's about hurting people, not the truth

Sounds like the villain that Mary SHOULD have been

It's about both and has been throughout Mike's career as a character in the Walkyverse.

in the Walkyverse, Mike was fighting aliens and in a job he hated because he wasn't a nerd. His brashness kind of made sense because he was in constant danger or surrounded by shit he didn't like and forced to be around people he hated because their personalities were based on Transformers and TMNT

In DOA he only hangs out with Ethan and...that's it really. Willis is coasting on comics he did almost a decade ago and just expecting us to accept that Mike is exactly the same even though he's surroundings and life story is completely different.

>Also everyone in the comments hates Mike
But not Carla? They both canonically have "being an asshole" as a character trait.

The strip is an edit of a real SMBC strip; The dialogue is genuine, but the characters were edited to be Mary and Becky.

He's friends with Ethan and Amber. His behavior can be explained by the fact that he's spent years dealing with people with a heap of personal issues they refuse to address.

>*Happy squee noises*
>*Happy squee noises intensify*
>*Happy squee noises start to crack the Earth asunder*
>SQUEEEE- uh… maybe I should reign it in a bit.
I love how Joyce exits the elevator saying hi to the hallway, expecting some measure of life and to see people happy or at least happy-ish to see her. And the thing about that is that is shows not only how supportive and caring this little dorm hall has been for her, but also how desperately she missed it being with her folks. This is her safety zone, this is where she feels safe and protected. To the point where when she was getting endless flashbacks going outside alone, she nonetheless could always stand to be alone in her dorm. And so it’s glorious to see her come home.
>I love Hank anxiously glancing around at the quiet as well. It’s a nice soft touch that humanizes him and his character really nicely and provides a nice contrast to Becky’s cool practiced nonchalantness.
>And that last panel- SQUEEEE- no, the rumbling is too loud, must control my happy. But seriously, these two are just too cute and there is too much to love here.
>I mean, this is exactly what Becky has needed from a trip where she’s had to face some of her worst memories, constantly receive and downplay abuse and microaggressions, and was not allowed really a space to breathe and process just how hard it was being back in the town and community that so thoroughly rejected her. Not to mention the community that has done nothing to reach out or support her even though she’s without family and homeless, because in their eyes, it’d be like sympathizing with a man who murdered his parents because he’s an orphan.

>So, she needed this. And maybe it’s me being hyper-aware of anxiety symptoms because of my work, but I can’t help noticing the contrast between the stiff hunched shoulders still full of stress in the first two panels compared to the blissful surrender in that last panel. This is all her stress melting away in the best possible way.

>Also, I just love their dynamic. That giggly happy sub reaction of Becky’s. Too happy to form words. Echoing that moment when she and Dina kissed and Dina retreated into her hat to happily giggle and just so in bliss to be reunited with the woman she loves. The happy dino dom in Dina doing her power stance over her, but in a way that would allow her to easily escape if she wanted to. The happy satisfied rarr and the knowledge that Dina was probably happily bouncing in Sarah’s chair for the second she heard Becky’s name spoken out loud and likely dashed off at that moment.

>I like that it’s a bit non-normative and role-play-y, but that Becky is so game and so happy and sees nothing off about it. It’s her cute smart wonderful dino girlfriend tackling her in the hall and she couldn’t be happier.

>They’ve been through the worst of times, but it’s also not gonna be easy being and dating a homeless queer woman with a lot of emotional baggage left to unpack from the circumstances that caused it. But I have a lot of faith in these cuties and I want to imagine them as the sort of college couple that’s still together 10 years later, planning their marriage, because “eh, it’s time” or at least the type of exes who still include each other in each other’s lives and have brunch with their respective significant others.

How
How do you get so much out of so few panels
how

Too bad we weren't SHOWN this or at least told

I'd like to know what planet the dorm's the safe zone for Willis target audience. Sunday at college, I'd be either in my room studying, reading or playing games, or someplace in town where there's actually things to do.

Remember, this is sanctioned therapy for Cerberus by a real psychologist

It kinda brings the It Can Bleed Patreon drama into perspective. This comic, and the fan community Willis has created around it, is literally all some of his fans have.

It doesn't matter that their social/gender/political issues and hang-ups are being addressed by a white middle-aged fanboy with two kids from the Midwest, he is Their Voice.

i never heard about the it bleeds drama, what happened?

We're getting deeper in this plot.

Pretty much how described it. ICB talking about how Ruth's abrupt escalation in her depression isn't realistic, citing his own experiences. Fans saying said experiences don't "count" and that he needs to get off the high horse.

It's like a weird "Tag, Not-It Forever" game when privileged people on the internet tell one another to check their privilege.

...

I hope that's what he's got planned, but I don't hold out much hope. Willis' raison d'etre these days seems to be turning characters I like into two-dimensional cunts, and those are no fun.
