Essential Batman

What's considered essential reading for Batman? I've already read Year One, The Long Halloween, The Killing Joke, and The Dark Knight Returns.

What else is there

Arkham Asylum

Thats it. You're done.

Batman and the Monster Men
Batman and the Mad Monk

Both by Matt Wagner and Dave Stewart

Cool, I'll give these a try.

You'd think a character who's been around for so long would have a bunch of "essential" reading.

DKSA

Nah

this

Batman: Hong Kong by Doug Moench and Tony Wong
Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight
No Man's Land
Denny O'Neil and Neal Adams stuff

Kek hes trolling you you stupid fuck

>The Long Halloween
Why not read its sequel, Dark Victory?

I thought DKSA was considered so-so.

All Star Batman and Robin the Boy Wonder

I love it. People hated it at the time because it was weird and different. Its more unhinged, more bonkers, more of a fever dream, but its kind of a natural evolution of the world set up in The Dark Knight Returns.

I've actually read No Man's Land before. That was pretty good.

I know, I'm playing along.

Didn't know it had a sequel. Neat.

I concur. These are all quite enjoyable. You just have to read DKSA and ASBAR with the understanding that it's intentionally over-the-top.

O'neil's Batman
Knightfall
Arkahm Asylum
Morrison's epic
Court of Owls (stop there for Snyder)

I really liked the Dark Night Returns so if it's in the same vein I'll probably like it too.

Batman: Black and White
Batman: Dark Victory
Batman: Mad Love
Batman: Year 100
Batgirl: Year One
Robin: Year One

>Batman annual #11
>Dark knight dark city
>City of Crime
>Black Mirror
>Strange Apparitions
>The cult
Read the longer runs:
O'Neil's, Alan Grant's, Milligan's, Gotham Central, Morrison's runs and Legends of the dark knight anthology.

Batman year one
Long Halloween
Arkham Asylum
Dark Knight returns
Thats how i started thanks to a buddy of mine.

It's less in the same vein and more over the top silver age stuff. Plus the art isn't as good.

>Batman annual #11
My nigga.

The Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told, Vol 1 and 2
Batman in the 40's, 50's, 60's 70's and 80's collections
Batman by Neal Adams Vol. 1, 2, 3 (or omnibus)
The Dark Knight Returns
Year One
The Long Halloween
Venom
Gothic
Second Chances (first post-crisis appearance of Jason Todd)
The Cult
The Killing Joke
Arkham Asylum: A Dangerous house on a Dangerous Earth
A Death in the Family
Anarchy
A Lonely Place of Dying (Introduction of Tim Drake as Robin)
Knightfall (Books 1, 2 and 3)

Then the Grant Morrison run on Batman.

Also:
New Teen Titans Vol. 1 ect. (deals with Bruce and Dick's falling out as he joins the Titans and becomes Nightwing)
Robin Vol1: Reborn (collects the Robin miniseries of the 90's that follow up on Tim Drake's development)
Batman: Son of the Demon OGN
Gotham by Gaslight
Tales of the Multiverse: Batman - Vampire

DKSA art is amazing. Its so abstract and weird.
