Looks great actually sci-fi. But they are playing it straight humor is gone

>all that empty action

Doesn't look like Trek. Where's the technobabble, moral dilemmas, sensor anomalies?

Not very Trek like, but it actually looks like it has good production values so I'm actually looking forward to this
>those Klingons though

>you're mad
>I'm Mudd

Star Trek: The Force Awakens

It's a trailer. Did you ever see the 90s Star Trek trailers?

youtube.com/watch?v=A7preE2hojM

faggotry confirmed

have fans ever had a good first reaction to new trek?
ds9
>there isnt even a ship!
voyager
>it's a fucking spoon!

>Jason Isaacs

Both he and Jack Davenport deserved to have a much better career out of their respective movie franchises than what they have nowadays.

This one looks slightly better. I'm still not a fan of the aesthetic changes (the klingons look like pic related), but it looks like it has more political intrigue than it did before.

I hate the overly detailed Klingon armor

I hate the generic sci fi designs

I hate how the tech on the ship looks more modern than the tech on Voyager

I hate the uniforms

I hate that they have the Enterprise badge designs in a time where every post had a different badge

I'm so numb to big 'splosions but that didn't look too bad. I'll definitely try it. I've never seen a previous Star Trek show so I won't have a great frame of reference.

I was pretty hyped for Voyager

I don't think I even watched the entire first season. the Delta Quadran Klingons, I mean Kazon, might be the laziest enemies in Star Trek ever. ToS Romulans don't have shit on the Kazon.

They've complained since TNG, they've always found something to nitpick. In hindsight it sounds stupid because we know the shows are good, but now we're starting the hype cycle again so we get caught up in it.

He is even making his Zhao voice for the character if we go by the footage shown on the trailer. But yeah, I agree that they were both robbed from having a decent career on the big screen.

>This video is not available in your country
What did Netflix mean by this?

It's gonna really really suck. Buckle up because the threads will be epic.

It's CBS-exclusive in both Canada and US while being distributed by Netflix on the rest of the world. It means that they can afford a bigger budget by having Netflix co-producing than average network shit like Agents of SHIELD.

so much for the cheesy light-hearted feel of the older series, we mass effect now this may turn out to be good science-fiction, but for me it will never be a star trek serie

Star Trek has moved past that point. If you want good ol' classic cheesy sci-fi with a shoestring budget then go for any SyFy channel originals or Doctor Who.

Established networks have to stop making their own shitty streaming platforms happen. Nobody cares about them and nobody ever will.

Honestly doesn't look too bad. I'm willing to reserve my judgment until the series comes out

it's just for lootcrate buyin' redditors now, it's got the trappings of star trek but no soul.

Does the Asian lady Captain have nice feet?

go home and confess your love for Miles Dr Bashir

Just the shitty pop music in the trailer makes it clear they've got the tone all wrong for Star Trek. This might be good sci-fi, but it's not good Star Trek.

...

No one is going to make campy scify to appeal to the autists m8.

>I'd Love to Change the World starts playing

hahahaha

She won't earn my respect until she murders a crewmember or orders a genocide.

...

I agree, but then how can you justify making a new Star Trek series without making it obvious you're cynically interested in nothing more than making money off a great franchise's name, and one that should frankly be left alone.

...

>when you try to click the discovery video and realize everyone is in the third world.

How would an SJW Captain handle this situation?

Why do you think the Star Trek movies did so great in the box office while having subpar scriptwriting and directing? Because it wasn't too far up its ass and unwatchable for the normal movie goer who probably doesn't give a fuck about the show's 50 year-old lore. It is the same thing that happens to shows like Doctor Who. You either renew yourself and cater to what the audiences are demanding at the moment or you are cancelled.

They'd keep Tuvix alive because SJWs value the collective over the individual.

Yes, I clearly understand the business behind this new series, but that's just the problem. I'm not interested in seeing another Star Trek series if it doesn't look anything like Star Trek, and in fact I would rather they not try to resurrect the series. I may be wrong, but I doubt people who aren't already into Star Trek will be interested in following this series, while people who do like Star Trek may not be so keen on a series that looks more like Mass Effect than anything else. By trying to appeal to everyone, they may be appealing to no one.

>have fans ever had a good first reaction to new trek?

No. No one loves to hate what they love like Trek fans. Except maybe Star Wars fans.

Both franchises need to be left to die with dignity instead of being raped by greedy Hollywood executives.

Star Wars fanboys are more on the love side because they treat it like a religion and can barely think for themselves. Star Trek fans are devout but have more perspective and realizes that its just a show that can be as flawed as any other show. Star Wars fans have pretty much taken over the fat annoying nerd stereotype from trekkies.

So it's this or the tripfag thread? What happened to /trek/?

I don't like anything about this

The problem is, as with all Star Trek series, Season 1 will be borderline unwatchable, someone will grow a beard and then the quality will start to get better.
By season 3 it will be good. Season 4 will be great.
This one won't make it that long.

I'm predicting a holodeck episode by episode 3. Because it's on that checklist of 'things people know about Star Trek'

What in the ever loving fuck?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but does this take place before the USS Kelvin encountered the Narada?

>I'm predicting a holodeck episode by episode 3

if that happens, we riot.

this is a prequel to ToS, remember.

so wait, is this the Abramsverse or is it real Star Trek?

ENT had two holodeck episodes and a borg ep and a ferengi ep

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unexpected_(Star_Trek:_Enterprise)

It's Abramsverse.

we don't know yet for sure. Early on, they said it was in the prime timeline

but from the recent trailers, it blatantly looks like it's in the Kelvin timeline.

Looks like a bunch of grimdark garbage. I'm gonna go watch Ménage à Troi to cleanse my brain.

figure it out yourself, the guys making this don't know

>Why do you think the Star Trek movies did so great in the box office
The most recent installment killed the franchise all over again

It actually can't be. Paramount and Viacom split and Paramount gets the movie franchise (Abramsverse) while Viacom gets the TV franchise (Roddenberry's if they want it). What Discovery CAN'T do is tap the rebootiverse.

>It' gonna suck, isn't?

Probably. I'm positively surprised by Harry Mudd... everything else is disappointing.

>tons of fx and action
>20th-21st century meme soundtrack

looks like more fucking jj trek...

>What Discovery CAN'T do is tap the rebootiverse.
Judging by the space combat scenes, it looks to me like they are using the Abramsverse.

They can do their own reboot though. Make a new rebootiverse. Shit but they will

He was a Q, right?

>it ain't me starts playing

Do trek fans actually like Mudd? Are people glad to see him back?

wow Undiscovered Country got shafted..

looks orange and blue.

The Klingons are the proof of this. Prime continuity's take is that the shoepolish Greeks we saw in TOS were genetically engineered to fool us and TNG's horseshoe crab foreheads were the real deal.

> what about TMP
We don't talk about that.

I'm not sure if that's still entirely the case

for the longest time STO couldn't use JJverse but now they can and do..

No you arse, if he were a god he wouldn't get hoist on his own petard so often.
>Do trek fans actually like Mudd? Are people glad to see him back?
You have the crew of the Federation's flagship repeatedly being owned by a con artist. Hell yes.

>streamable.com/drqpi
Here is the trailer for US residents:
youtube.com/watch?v=hC7IMj7WFyE

I just realized something, it doesn't really matter which timeline this takes place in, if it's set before the TOS, since that time period is the same in both timelines. The timelines themselves were only fractured during and after Kelvin was attacked by the Narada.

Remember on DS:9 when black captain raped alternate universe Dax.

I just can't bear more of that shitty trailer music.
It's like an entire genre of pop music has evolved around the question "Can I slap it onto any trailer, no matter the movie's/shows's genre?" by now.

nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope

>He was a Q, right?

Just another con-artist... pretty good at that.

>Do trek fans actually like Mudd?

Yes.

>Are people glad to see him bac

It is 50/50 situation he can be good or bad, if it goes bad it will be horribly bad.

Honestly as someone who got into trek in '86 with TOS reruns... this is probably the day trek dies.

The post-DS9/VOY prime universe is officially dead isn't it?

FUCK I miss the 90s.

>michael

??

How the fuck do I get into DS9, please help! I watched like the first couple episodes and it just doesn't feel good like the original series and tng felt

Michelle Yeoh

>tfw no post VOY Trek dealing with the galactic upheaval caused by the destruction of Romulus.

it's not as good. it's only good for the Dominion War pew pew space battles and starship destruction porn

Mudd was a fun character in that he was funny but not a mere comic relief. He was believable as a shady guy but not unlikeable.

> number one

isn't that what Picard called his first officer? Why are they pretending like thats some kind of deep cut back to TOS? I fucking hate holywood kikes

Watch the Season 3 finale and Season 4 premiere. That's when things heat up.

nigger, ds9 has amazing character arcs.

>action, lense flares, and more action
>ywn have another Quark's bar tier comfy dialoge scene

They're trying so fucking hard and it's cringeworthy.

>referred to as "number one"

this is such a better trailer than the abortion they first released. effects look fucking great too

F

they never canonically confirmed Picard invented the concept

but it still feels like they're shitting all over my childhood

Also, ignore everything I said earlier because last year Viacom bought out Paramount.
redshirtsalwaysdie.com/2016/09/29/cbs-viacom-merger-mean-star-trek

The dope who wrote this made an interesting point: Pine and Quinto only have one more movie in their contract and given how shit Beyond was, 4's storyline could easily end with unbooting the Kelvin timeline altogether. The Abrams tards get a sendoff and the rest of us get to pretend it never happened.

It's just stock music. Haven't you noticed that ALL trailers employ this sort of soundtrack these days. It's mainly because the score for any movie or TV show is usually completed very late into the production run.

It still sucks that they can't just stick with instrumentals these days.

>literal nigger captain
>they even acknowledge this in universe, "as far as they're concerned, we'll always be niggers."
>oh wait he's not even a captain
>executive officers at other space stations are admirals
>also he's space Jesus to the Bajorans

If you say so.. I'm almost expecting them to play sabotage AGAIN right in the show..

You absolute casual.

>There will never be a post-DS9/Voyager series
>We will never see fucking Rom running the Ferengi Alliance
>We will never see Captain Nog
>We will never see anything else
>All we will ever see is prequels

Why live

DS9 is the breaking point of Trek. It abandons the ideals Trek had and replaces those with somewhat more realistic ones. In the end DS9 is B5 set in Star Trek universe with mostly more bland characters. It is the worst Trek and the best Trek at same time. Supporting characters are better than main characters in DS9, they are ones that carry the show.

>>executive officers at other space stations are admirals

the admirals based at starbases commanded a sector of ships, not the station..

Yeah, these days, they they like to pretend TNG (and everything post-TNG) never happened or "wasn't a big thing"...
