You fucking suck

/thead

good dialogue at least

Funny when you're 12, not so much when you're 18+

Adult Swim refuses to air this anymore because it's ratings suicide. Viewers hate it.

I found it the other way around

...

no idea why /co loves it so much

Prove it.

sonofthebronx.blogspot.com/2013/06/adult-swim-and-toonami-ratings-june-17.html

Home Movies was pulled right after this airing and has not been seen on Adult Swim since.

yea it does
it was how they finally got people to go asleep

I remember seeing this on early morning CN where they usually showed other children cartoons. I don't even think it was a real Adult Swim show.

I just always thought it was really boring. Hell even the VAs sounded like they were bored.

wow fucking nobody watched it

Show this sucks fucking.

Good god, this thread. How is so much of Sup Forums objectively shit and wrong?

Dude...WHAT did Brendon Small do to you for the constant hate boner?

I'd there about 5 or so episodes that are pretty damn good and the rest are mostly ignored since they're not very good and can get pretty boring.
It's the kind of show that was important to Adult Swim back in the day and well-regarded, but now as the tides of Adult Swim's programming have shifted as well as the rest of the animated/comedy tv show world and young adult popular culture, it doesn't really hold up as well anymore, seems a bit out of place, and most people have long forgotten the show ever existed. It's a product of its time.

this

hes trying to start a meme

it's already a meme in those toonami threads

I had a crush on the mom for the longest time.

It wasn't awful, just painfully mediocre

I didn't really appreciate it until I was like 19

I watched every episode about three weeks ago, I felt it was good

>Watching this show
It is literally a table-read. The whole show was recorded as they were writing it. It's the character sitting around a room talking to each other.

The animation is incidental. This show functions just as well as a radio show. You can listen to this show and get everything.

Strip the audio and keep it on your Zune. You can enjoy it forever, even while driving.

It had the best weight gain episode ever.

It was a realistic cause (they binged whenever they got together), and it had a sweet ending. They decide friendship is more important than worrying about their weight.

Lazzo pls go

...

>The animation is incidental. This show functions just as well as a radio show. You can listen to this show and get everything.

I listened to almost the entire show this way over the course of a couple months during work.

McGuirk was the only thing this show had.

Those shows are the best.

The animation was abysmal, but it had some very good voice acting, writing, and humor. like said, you can just listen to it and get the same amount of enjoyment. I loved the overall tone of the show.

Yeah it sucks. But it will always have that shiny turd Adult Swim charm to it that I love.

>It's shocking - SHOCKING - the variety of chips you can get today.

Would I be messing out if I listened to this show instead of watching it?

no

in fact, don't even listen to it

When did the Home Movies hate movement start? I really don't remember seeing threads like this a few years ago.

Younger posters who grew up on Web 2.0 and social media based humor who can't into Home Movies because of the slower plot pace, dry humor, retroscripting, unconventional style, and limited animation

t. family guy fan

Sickening

That, or the show was just plain mediocre.

this. Take off your fucking nostalgia goggles and you'll see the show was a turd.

Or, you know, you're just faggots.
Just throwing it out there.

I feel like I should give this show another try.

There's something about the "artstyle so bad it's a joke within itself XD" thing that turns me off. If you don't care about your product, why should I?

It's a nice background show. Unfortunately that doesn't make good ratings.

Also Couch Mcguirk is best boy.

>If you don't care about your product, why should I?
Normally I would feel the same way, but this show was more about the writing than it was the animation. Like most of the posts above this one said, it was more akin to a radio broadcast than an actual cartoon. I'm not giving excuses, I'm just saying the style didn't really matter.

Although people judge books by their cover so i don't know why they didn't go with a good artstyle, but that's another issue entirely.

>Unfortunately that doesn't make good ratings.
Shame, since it really should.

Why? It's completely mediocre, boring to listen to and painful to look at.

You're right, show is balls

>boring to listen to
be a bitch then

Doing that with Dr Katz at the moment

like these guy's videos
youtube.com/watch?v=vEM3WwOeEkI

Yes, but to be fair this is literally just 100% copying the squigglevision/trademark bouchard retroscripting gimmick

It would be if they didn't have autistic pauses every 6 seconds

They should air the show as the final show on Adult Swim's schedule before switching over to CN for the day.

Might work. Probably not, though.

>They should air the show as the final show on Adult Swim's schedule before switching over to CN for the day.
>Might work. Probably not, though.
They used to do this until they bought the rights to King of the Hill and that took its spot. Home Movies pretty much permanently disappeared from the schedule after that except for I believe a brief time summer of 2013, where it aired as the 9 PM transition show from Cartoon Network to Adult Swim and as a companion to Bob's Burgers (by the same people, of course) which began airing the week after Home Movies was pulled off the lineup.

swords

Obviously, something like 9 PM where FOX shows usually air has way too much competition, but I don't understand why they don't just air it either as the show of the main part of the lineup before the repeats start (1:00 on weekdays or 12:30 on Sundays) or on DVR Theater (4 AM on weekdays), or hell, take out the extra non-repeat episode of KoTH at 5:30 AM on Sundays and give that to Home Movies. The last one would make the most sense because they literally repeat the 8:00 PM KOTH at 5:00 AM, and then show another random episode at 5:30.

Spaghetti time.

It's better than a lot of other adult aimed cartoons out there. I don't understand the hate it gets lately. I never found it boring

He uses the toonami threads as a lab to see how hard anons will take the bait. They always take it
He did this with one piece being the most sold comic in the world

>He did this with one piece being the most sold comic in the world
lol THAT fucking copypasta

>They should air the show
Let's start with that

>autistic pauses
What? That's how people actually talk. Most shows don't capture authentic human dialog very well, but home movies is not one of those shows.

Guys, i don't think you understand. That show DID NOT pull any ratings in any time slot. it did worse than the Toonami movie nights. Adult Swim airs a fucking live webcam recording of their fish tank and it still pulls more ratings than home movies did near the end.

first post is best post

>Home Movies - Saturdays, 9 PM - May 11 - June 22, 2013
>Average rating: 725,000 viewers
>Lowest rating: 468,000 viewers
>Highest rating: 885,000 viewers

>arguing ratings on a cult favourite show from nearly two decades ago
One day soon, I;m going to up and leave this wretched place I once loved.

Do it now please.

Make sure to Highfive everyone on the way out.

Terrible

I doubt Adult Swim will air this show again unless its a special occasion or one-off or something. Sure, it may have been Adult Swim' most successful comedy original in the first 3 seasons, but once FOX shows came into the mix and AS expanded its productions/network/budget/style of programming, it was a whole different ballgame. That was 12 years ago.

Not only is it arguably the oldest, most dated, and least accessible/interesting (in the eyes of the current generation of casual AS viewers/average FOX rerun watchers anyway) of AS' OG original series, by the end of the decade it was pretty much confined to the 5:30 weekday death slot before King of the Hill replaced it because its ratings usefulness and appeal to viewers had run its course.

And the fact is, the only reason Adult Swim gave it airtime at all in 2012 was because they were starting to experiment with various non-FOX shows (Squidbillies, Robot Chicken, Oblongs, Venture Bros.) being aired in that early 9 PM slot on weekends and wanted to test the waters with something that was TV-PG and fairly tame.

The only reason it aired in 2013 was to briefly help promote Adult Swim's acquisition of Bob's Burgers (made by much of the former Home Movies cast and crew).

That's it. With all of that jazz out of the way, a whole roster of newer, successful Adult Swim shows to air, and the middling to poor ratings the show received the last two times they ran it, there's really no reason for Adult Swim to ever put Home Movies on the airwaves again.

I consider this to be one of my favorite shows of all time, and even I understand why the ratings wouldn't be great at this point. I love it, but I've seen every episode like 5 times and I assume most other big fans have too. If I'm going to watch it, I'll just use my dvds or Hulu or something.

Of course shows like Sealab, The Oblongs, Harvey Birdman, even Assy McGee still get aired

youtube.com/watch?v=8uaaF83eVig

Not surprised Adult Swim viewers wouldn't be able to handle such genius.

And how do they do ratings wise? I'd consider most of those shows far more accessible than Home Movies.

IIRC, The Oblongs got 600k - 800k viewers Sundays at 8 and the rest all got about 350k - 700k viewers in DVR Theater.

Those are... okay

>genius
Oh please

boring as fuck

this genre is the domain of neurotics and hipsters trying to hide their lack of writing ability with gimmicks

Friendly reminder that there was a staff member who drew porn of Melissa, and her VA found out about it

Source?

On the dvds, there are interviews with the various cast and crew. At one point Melissa told an anecdote about her staying late one night, noticed one of the animators or whatever working late also, glanced at his monitor, and saw lewd images of her character.

Wtf lol

Toonami fags please go

"No"

I wanna draw lewds of Paula. Suggestions?

Paula staying late to "tutor" that guy in her writing class.

We really don't desu

The last time I watched this show was in French on Teletoon in the mid-2000s, I think I'm gonna have to go back to it in English soon.

No we don't. This show gets unanimous praise on Sup Forums and it's about damn time somebody broke from the circlejerk because this show is honestly balls.

You don't have to lie, user.

I'm not. Sup Forums jerks off to this show every time it's mentioned

youtube.com/watch?v=5ktqN2YbNAM

Yeah, 'masterpiece' is more fitting.

Adult Swim, I'm serious get rid of the random King of the Hill episode that airs at 5:30 AM on Sundays and give that slot to Home Movies. It doesn't even make sense that they repeat the 8 o clock episode at 5:00 AM and then show another non-repeat episode after.
