What's the best western religion/denomination Sup Forums?
As I've been getting older, I've come to realize that there's something bigger than all of us, and that's faith. I've been non-religious all my life, but I can see the appeal of community, and I cannot rule out with certainty that there is nothing out there. I see religion as a means more than an end; in my opinion, all religions lead you to the top of the mountain, they're just different paths you can take.
I've been considering joining a church and giving religion an honest try, but I'm looking for a few things:
1. Fairly conservative values. They don't have to be too extreme (ie death penalty for theft) but I would like general dissuasion from certain things. For instance, abortion, divorce, murder should all be regarded as things that ideally you should not do, but I also believe (somewhat) in second chances.
2. Loose interpretation. I feel like things should be more about the intent of the word over the letter of the word. The stories and scripture should be inspiring and should represent challenging scenarios where faith is tested, but shouldn't be explicitly interpreted as history or the highest authority.
3. Should be lenient enough to A: accept people not born into the religion, and B: not overtly force babies to join via baptism. Baptism in general is fine, even as a baby, as long as there's some confirmation (I think that's what it's called) at a later age. Being non-religious all my life, I don't think anyone should be able to force religion on a child.
Tell me about your religion, Sup Forums.
Picture unrelated, just nice easy listening on a Sunday.
There's still "karma". If you don't have a soul, then you're just consciousness, no different to another human or a pig. The fucked up shit you do to others you do to your"self" / the universe.

Atheism. Was not a choice. Religion was abandoned in my parents generation. Of my dozen long time friends, only one has ever been to Church.
That being said, if he wants to fit all the conditions for his customized religion, my local Catholic Church hits all the posts. OP just go talk to a priest about it, get in touch with your local parish and go talk about it over some coffee or something. Most priests would be delighted to talk with someone who is considering joining the faith.
I can't really recommend a system of belief except to believe on Jesus Christ and to get baptized and to study and pray all your life. Don't expect tearing down your preconceptions to be easy. Do it tenaciously and with reason.
I don't often recommend people start in Revelation but that is what took me in. Of course it was impossible to understand at first but I could immediately see the correlations with where our world is headed now. Specially reading 1st and 2nd Peter.

Yeah, but "karma" isn't real. It's as fake as any religion is. There are people that do really messed up shit and still end up better off than others.
>inb4 they'll pay in the after life of when they die
that concept falls into whatever religion you hold to be true that talks of life after death or whatever.

Eh, I'm lenient on my conditions I feel like most religions hit all of those points fairly easily, especially if you include eastern religions. I asked some friends this question the other day and they replied with Roman Catholic as well. Do you go to that church, Canada user?
Carson Fisher
a good protestant branch of Christianity if you live in the west traditional buddhism/taoism (not the modern type) if you live in the east

Nihilism is not endgame philosophy. It is a low point to lift yourself from by bettering your standards.
That is what the ubermensch is.

British Imperialism is the best thing to ever happen to the White race in terms of peopling the world, closely followed by Founding Fathers era American Nationalism. National Socialism worked well for the Germans and it's a shame it was defeated (militarily at least).
Henry Rivera
i agree, but i put it in quotes because i was presenting a naturalist interpretation of karma which is nothing like that in buddhism.

I feel a lot like you, OP - that there's something greater, wiser and more just than man; that there's a God. And although I haven't given any thought as to what sort of God he might be, I can only hope that he is the Christian kind, and that he rewards and punishes men based on their ability to perform acts of good and acts of evil, no matter the religion they follow.

Not sure if it falls in religion/denomination category, but stoicism. At least I find stoicism, at least writings/ideas by Seneca, to be helpful. If you read Seneca you realise that they sufferered same problems in ancient time and came up ideas how to handle them. It boggles my mind that this stuff is not teached in school. Maybe too western to be abroved by leftis/feminists.
Although Trad Cats are way easier to get into, there isn't the culture gap like there is in Orthodoxy.
Stay away from Vatican II and stick to Latin-Rite masses. Good luck brother.

I do, I'm a practicing Catholic, a gun lover, and a proud conservative up here. It's a rarity for Canada, but it's more common here in the prairies than in the coasts. I enjoy church, last night when I went the Priest gave us a homily about how these times are chaotic, and while we can pray about it and just let things happen, it's in our best interests to protect the christian way of life by opposing corruption from within and from without. I really enjoyed it. >pic related is my newest gun

“The significance of our lives and our fragile planet is then determined only by our own wisdom and courage. We are the custodians of life's meaning. We long for a Parent to care for us, to forgive us our errors, to save us from our childish mistakes. But knowledge is preferable to ignorance. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring fable. If we crave some cosmic purpose, then let us find ourselves a worthy goal.” -Carl Sagan

I've read quite a lot of Stoicism, and the Tao Te Ching as well. I plan to keep up these beliefs as a system for my personal growth, but I want something more communal. Thinking beyond myself, I want to find a community with strong morals that I can contribute to, find like-minded people, and raise a family within.

you can try, but there's always despair bubbling underneath. trying to bootstrap value and meaning with your own will is a noble endeavour. maybe God even delights in it. but if you fail, you should not let your pride keep you from returning to Him.
Jace Campbell
I love stoicism as well. Many views in stoicism can be found in Chrisitianity, and I believe living a stoic lifestyle is absolutely top tier.
Read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and "The Ancient Art of Stoice Joy" by William Irvine.

If the poll was done a few years ago, it would be even more in the majority. Religion is slowly dying in the west. Better by far to embrace the hard truth than a reassuring fable.

Christian nondenominationalism. The institutions of Western society have been to run down. No true religious organization still stands except for the invisible church of Christ. You're likely redpilled, so keep going against the grain in religion too and realize you don't need to submit to a physical church and their doctrines. Here's a ton of Christianity-related books for any user. mega.nz/#!QoRGARhZ!sKun_Jw7izZcNYngYvfs_90Wi6obUcialZf80c2DTYg >Yuri Bezmenov - Why We Need God youtu.be/kDKGvg6HeyY

God is dead to a nihilist. God does not spring back into existence unless you have used faith to escape the void of nihilistic thought.
If that is the case then you're a believer of some sort. Nihilist

Jesus lived user but Mohammed was the Seal of the Prophets. The one denomination of Christianity that seems to still have an authentic message of salvation and redemption is the Orthodox the Church but the main thing you have to do is devote yourself to it.
Devote yourself to it.
I have issues with Christianity given it's a Eurocentric faith and other things but it's enough for me to know that Jesus lived. In the final analysis it's about reconciling your *Self* with this reality and trying as best your able to do God's will.
God made the angels to show him splendour, just as he made animals for their innocence and plants for their simplicity. Man he made, to serve him wittily, in the tangle of his mind. Our purpose is to manifest God's virtues on his creation because nothing else can conceive of these abstract *Human* values.
If you succeed you'll be a *Human Being* and you'll have given your life meaning beyond what the academic system and politicians want.

Hello friend.
Spirituality is a very good choice and I honestly like your attitude. To find the right religion you need to check 2 things.
Where are you born? And more important, what is your race?
Religion is a part of culture and a propper religion has virtues like loyalty. Witch means you are only allowed to have the religion of your culture, and you are born into a culture. (I havea a hard time on this point as I wasnt born where I live now but that is another story)
Ofc you must reject a religion that you were baptized into if its retarded. If you are a well minded person you will be able to find out about your real religion witch is bound to you and you even have it in your because it is the truth, that is nothing bad, that is called heritage.
I think that is the only way to true spirituality. Everything else is a bluepill to controll the masses.
Religion encourages black and white thinking. That things can easily be put into categories of good and evil.
The world is more complicated than religion gives it credit for and that's why religion is popular.
Nathaniel White
you would have to give up your degeneracy and sin, like fapping to trap porn. so instead you prefer the hard truth that there is no truth but what you will.
have you really embraced the "hard" truth or do you live in denial of it and distract yourself with trap porn?

Yes. There is but one church on Earth and that is the Ecclesia Millitans

We have to sort it out to make some sort of sense to us. Life is pretty enjoyable for most people when we're young but eventuallythe weight of reality is too much for the equipment we have to deal with it. Life is infinitely more complex than anyone can deal with so we all need a base, an anchor from which to interpret it when it becomes a Sea of Madness , which it will, I guaran-fucking-tee it.
I think the thing that bothered me most about rationalism and the scientific method was there were only Fixed Points at which you could attach yourself and it meant compromising my *Self* to the capricies of other fallible People. Poeple who had good intentions but in the end would deny their heart for what they felt was a good cause. And I noticed that all of these people operated on different levels of awareness where they could only ever be approximately in touch with the prevailing reality.
Religion is notoriously cuckoo but it is a Rock, Ironically something it is often criticised for but for the Rationalists NOTHING is absolutely true, EVERYTHING is subject to change and it wasn't good enough, I needed something stronger to helpl me deal with the ultimate irrationality, my Death.
Science has no consolation for this, for any one really because we are all going to die. All they can do is distract you from it until it's time.

Where is your ancestory from? You must be aware of your roots. Its very important. Its basicly your old self. I believe there is one soul that just changes bodies as time passes. Its really hard to tell what this soul is. There is something like a mothersoul all of the existing things are a part of it, then comes the race soul all of your race is part of it, then come the family souls and then come the individuals. Kind of like that. There is constent powershifting, at one time one of these life is more dominant, then an other ... constent war

Mysticism is probably the only viable approach to religion. It doesn't require belief in silly dogmas as is the case for Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc. I would advise meditation and reading some mystical writers, e.g. Plotinus, Hegel, etc.

>I believe there is one soul
I'm something like this. I can't get with the idea that there is a beginning and an end though. It seems so anthro-centric when the truth to me is that we are part of something immense that exists infinitely within Time & Space.
Absolutely everything that exists seems to exist on a cycle and clearly Time is an aspect of that. Given infinite time we'd all come round again, and again, and again, adinfinitum.

I'm not religious or even spiritual but I lean towards reincarnation from the case studiesprovided by Dr Ian Stevenson and Prof. Jim Tucker through thier travels and research.
I will, however raise my children Christian (preferably Catholic but probably Presbyterian). I think it installs a solid base of values that can be built upon
