I'm looking for lovecraft-inspired films that are also actually worth watching. Any advice here?

Bonus points for films that involve cultists or an abyss.

The Void
Alien
The Thing
In the mouth of madness (closest I can think to lovecraftian)
Black Mountain side

other faggots who dont understand Lovecraft will disagree however as none of those have "LE EBIN CTHULU MEME MONSTER"

Reanimator

Thanks, anons. Unfortunately, I've already seen all of those (and liked them). The only exception is Black Mountain Side, which seems to have horrible reviews.

really?

I just watched it without looking at thereviews and thought it was pretty okay, its not BAD though

Also Jacobs Ladder and Inland Empire kinda have Lovecraft elements but its more on the madness side than cosmic horror

there's next to zero real cosmic horror movies. maybe in the future we'll see more but you'll have to deal with a tiny pool of content :(

AM1200? It's a short but it's all right.

Ghostbusters

Best Lovecraft kino is actually an episode of Tales from the Darkside called Slippage

Event horizon, maybe that's more wh40k then lovecraft

>*WARNER BROS.*
>*LIONS GATE*
>Shot of atlantis, on its walls; Egyptian Hyeroglyphics that show Cthulu
>INNSMOUTH HOTEL, there are thugs who are conceald in very heavy clothing
>Large, hooded thug pulls down his hood to reveal that he is a giant CGI shark man with reptile eyes
>Military troops are shooting cgi starfish monsters on the coastline, cops and swat are trying to take out fish people, stronk womyn is beating up green-frog-like-hybrids
>That weird slomo bwuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu- and an underwater explosion sound as a tomb is being destroyed
>Submarine is approaching a huge crevace made in the tomb, as tentacles comes out to that psudeo slo-mo st-st-st-st-studder stop, grabbing the sub.
>all leads previously shown in the movie is now stopping whatever their doing as looking at the camera,
>Ear shattering fart noise as Cthulu rises out of the water
>Donald Trump is ebil, him and his frog minions have the NecroCon (shortened for ease of digestion), trying to ctrulu cthulu
>Cthulu roars into the camera for a full 10 seconds, glass shattering and all
>Drumpf hair
>As Cthulu is about to smash the camera
>SUMMER 2018 SEE IN IMAX 3D

Lots of good suggestions here but no one mentioned Event Horizon yet?

...

And its only got a couple of good scenes. On second thought it is worth a watch.

Hellboy
The Mist

how would you even adapt lovecraft? his stories are nothing but "oh god no i'm going insane because of this indescribable horror" - how do you put something on film that literally cannot be described?

I remember watching this two part movie, spanish or italian. It was a story about a cult wich wnat to bring back cthulhu. It was the full mambo jumbo necronomicon and shit. Can't find the name tho.

PURE UNADULTERATED KINO

found it

Dagon

Dagon

La Herencia Valdemar part 1, too, but they both aren't that good.

black mountain side was alright. kinda just the thing with like a demon instead of a space alien.

Also from Masters of Horror:
1. John Carpenter's Cigarette Burns
2. Dreams in the Witch-House

>hero of the movie face full screen opening his eyes, panting and sweating
>realizing it was just a dream, he chuckles
>says "as if such a thing could hide from global imaging satellites all this time", "my subconscious is retarded"

>Silent pan of the ocean
>This starts playing youtube.com/watch?v=oIeR7uTqEQY&ab_channel=EpicHeavenMusic
>"Imagine a world"
>shot of underwater city
>"where we weren't the first"
>fart noise, stone cracking
>"to arrive here"
>A huge eye can be seen through a crevice
>tracking shot of a helicopter
>"we've got company boys" crackles over the radio
>gun fire, grenades exploding
>Cthulhu rises from the ocean
>shots of destroyed city

>explosion
>"THE"
>deep one rising out of the water being shot at by US troops
>"CALL"
>navy seals dropping into desert shooting at nyarlathotep
>"OF"
>nerdy character reading the necronomicon looking surprised
>"CTHULHU"

>an ancient eldrich horror of unimaginable power
>slumbering in great depths for milenia until stars align and and he awakenes to bring forth the end of the world
>get hit with a steamboat
>run away like a bitch with tail between his legs

I'm an elder one and I find this insulting.

When, long ago, the gods created Earth
In Jove's fair image Man was shaped at birth.
The beasts for lesser parts were next designed;
Yet were they too remote from humankind.
To fill the gap, and join the rest to Man,
Th'Olympian host conceiv'd a clever plan.
A beast they wrought, in semi-human figure,
Filled it with vice, and called the thing a Nigger.

would you call Prince of Darkness lovecraftian, seeing as you already have 2 out of 3 of Carpenter's Apocalypse trilogy thee?

>but they both aren't that good
implying there is a good lovecraftian movie

>"ia ia this you son of a bitch"
kek

They should adapt scenarii from the rpg instead of lovecraft' stories.

>Hey Cthulhu, remember when I said 'that isnt dead which does eternal lie?"
>Yeah yeah, matrix, thats what you said!

>I LIED

>midnight meat train
Pretty fucking good movie, it's one of the few roles I don't hate Bradley Cooper in. The short story is great, too.
