I think Pink Diamond's shattering was an inside job. Eyeball made an emphasis about Rose's Sword in close context to Rose shattering PD. That seems awfully screenwritery as an implication that it was Rose's Sword that did the shattering. Like if you're talking about John Wilkes Booth and someone says "I want to see his gun". No shit they mean the gun that shot Lincoln.
However, Bismuth said that Rose's sword can't shatter. Only disrupt physical forms.
How could Rose's sword have shattered PD when it literally cannot?
I think it was a scheme by Yellow Diamond, who clearly absorbed Pink's resources after her shattering. Remember that Jasper was Pink and then adopted by Yellow.
There's a rebellion going on. Yellow is covetous of Pink. Arrange for the rebel leader to attack PD. Then have it arranged that PD is shattered during the fight. Then uke the planet in retaliation (and to cover your tracks, thinking it will wipe out anyone who could finger you).

Diamonds are fragile than actuality. Rose might've used Pink Diamonds gem to deflect an attack made by White/Blue Diamond as seen in the mural. Garnet clearly specified, and backed up Rose's decision to shatter Pink Diamond. Yellow didn't absorb resources, gems were scattered around in a disjunctive mess to new leaders since their previous one was dead. The Diamond Authority seemed very organized before, I think any sort of treasonous action such as this would be seen by White Diamond causing judgement to be acted swiftly.
