If we just accept that LF is cunning and merciless, then his character just looks idiotic when he dies this season to Sansa of all people.
But we can't accept that he only dies because "Sansa is his only weakness" because he already sold her to the Boltons back in season 5, and everyone assumed that meant he didn't care about each other.
His storyline can't really be resolved in any meaningful way now. They can only kill him off, like they did with every other character they ran out of things to do with.
