Captain Marvel writer: Origin will be changed due to Green Lantern similarities

comicbookmovie.com/captain_marvel/captain-marvel-writer-says-origin-story-will-be-changed-due-to-a144447

Is there any hope left?

Dude she wrote one of the best written animated movies ever, the film will be fine if not great.

>"I don’t think I’ve ever had a project where I’ve been more mindful about the impact that it could have and the importance of it. She’s such an incredibly kick-ass character and Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently.

>But here’s the thing, if you were just going to do a straight adaptation of the comics, her origin story is very similar to Green Lantern. And obviously, that’s not what we want to do. There’s a lot of reinvention that needs to happen. And also, she’s her own person and she’s a great character. We have to be aware of what’s happened in other Marvel film and makes sure that her particular storyline is unique and fun and also fits in within this world that’s going on at the same time.

>It’s a little bit of an interesting story gauntlet. It’s been good to have a partner. It’s been an incredible experience. If we can pull it off it could be an incredibly important but also really fun and kick-ass superhero film.”

animated movies? what? We are talking about Nicole Perlman right?

So she'll be combat pilot instead of a test pilot and she'll get her powers directly rather than through Mar-Vell.

Not a huge deal.

He probably didn't read the article and assumed it was Meg LeFauve, the other writer.

So will Carol be given the codename "Captain Marvel" right away in the upcoming movie?

This movie will be trash

>Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently
You mean make the character dull and boring.

Opening shot will be "Capt. Carol 'Marvel' Danvers" painted on the side of an F-16. Or F-35 if the Air Force wants to show off its new toys.

I'm gonna guess no Mar-Vell then

I'll admit that I've never cared for Carol so I'm unsure of my accuracy here, but didn't she basically get mind wiped to be a boring and bland womyn power chaacter instead of an alcoholic nut?

Martin Campbell (Casino Royale, Zorro, Golden Eye) directed by Green Lantern.

Chris Terrio (Argo) wrote BvS.

David Ayer wrote and directed Suicide Squad.

At this point what matters is how far away the studio execs are from the creative team.

You know what? I'm all for it.

Carol is such a non entity that maybe some shakeup with the MCU quality control is the best bet she'll ever have. It's certainly not gonna fucking happen in the comics, so we might as well have it like this.

I'm assuming she'll fly her plane into whatever spaceship is invading in IW1 a la Independence Day, and be hailed as a hero when she falls into a coma only to wake up in her own movie with weird powers.

But origin is irrelevant if they aren't gonna give her a fucking personality.

Isn't what Perlman just a pc version of "yeah there was that thing that we don't like so we're gonna do it our way instead"?

There's no way they were gonna insult the material. Heck, they praised comic Civil War throughout most of the movie promo and kept reaffirming that they tried hard not to villainise Tony or Cap because that was the problem with the comic.

She also did the God Dinosaur

But Carol, like most Marvel characters, is interesting BECAUSE of her personality.

>Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently
Yeah, this movie is gonna be awful.

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha even marvel admits it's a blatant rip off of green lantern.

BULL SHIT
How great would it be to make an awesome GL movie but have it star Captain Marvel.

And DeConnick had a great story arc with Carol, did I miss that? I admittedly don't follow her closely But nothing I read recently was good. We are talking OP's pic, right? Because that wasn't good. Even the actress doesn't look like she thinks it's good.

I enjoyed Enemy Within quite a bit.

Yeah

It's a good thing no one cares about Green Lantern lmao, that's about how relevant DC is to the world

>DC

There's your problem.

>Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently

Confirmed retard

You're not expecting Perlman to publicly trash her run, are you? Not even Gunn says shit about Bendis and his GotG is way worse than KSD's Captain Marvel.

>reading shit tier carol
This is the only time I hope the movie deviates from the comics as much as it can.

but why praise KSD's and not her most recent run, or her previous run?

>Carol
>interesting
>personality

It's the most well known one.

Yeah. Honestly they should keep her origin story. With the state of the world today DC would take shit for copying off of captain marvel.

only in a self-fulfilling prophecy kind of way. people kept saying it was until it was, and can do that for anything

>With the state of the world today DC would take shit for copying off of captain marvel.
Eh, if that Green Lantern movie hadn't been so notorious, I'd agree with you.

The can still adapt another Superman or Green Lantern story with her, since DC is going nowhere with those characters.

Well, self-fulfilling prophecies are the reason a lot of things are known.

Iron Man also wasn't that great before the MCU and they managed. Marvel usually nails the hardest challenges and fails at the easiest ones.

...

...

...

ew boys.

But for real legit annoyed that, yeah, they're probably cutting Mar-Vell.

it's funny to me how Green Lantern is considered such Hollywood cancer now that he's not on the Justice League and their competitors won't even use origins that are similar to it

They really fucked up hard

For a while there it was considered the go-to bad superhero movie. Sure there are worse ones, and had been before, but none had tried so hard and failed.

Maybe BvS will end up occupying it's spot now, since it was so hyped and talked about.

If they keep Mar-Vell, I'm fine. But it depends on how they change it. I'll trust the writer until she gives me reason not to

Yeah I think BvS usurped it in the recent memory of critics, basically every super hero movie gets compared favorably to BvS in reviews now

Marvel reinvents everything. EVERYTHING. It's just they make it palatable so you don't notice. That's the trick to it. So they'll alter Carol's origin but make it so kick ass and good, you won't even mind.

If she's implying that they're getting rid of Mar-Vell then BURN THE WHOLE THING DOWN.

But as long as Mar-Vell is still an important part of the origin, I don't mind them mixing it up.

>She
Dead on arrival.

>Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently.

>and Kelly Sue DeConnick did a great run with her story arc recently

Why must they turn this world into a house of lies?

...

Before KSD stripped it from her, yes. And this writer is praising KSD, which is a major red flag.

What if they cut out Mar-Vell's spess cancer and death

the current waters suggest it'll be start of similar to busiek's avenger's run, with her coming back to earth after adventuring in space for a while

On the other hand there is a lot of resistance from the fans, so maybe it'll only be regarded as bad after DC changes it's current pace via better movies or a reboot.

Only when they have a good movie will people let that one sit in the shit pile.

It's going to be a kick ass movie regardless of what they do, you have no reason to doubt Marvel.

>Danger Zone intensifies

...

>She goes through a worm-hole while super-heroing in space the 70s.
>Comes back in modern day finding out that the world has change and that she hasn't aged a bit.
>We switch between modern day and the 70s explaining her origins.

Kind of like Captain America.

That's the Navy.

Comic Carol is shit, I'm glad to hear they're changing her as much as they can.

It doesn't really make much of a difference now does it?

...

She had as much personality as Stark before he became RDJ.

Synergy will be a good thing.

i had this idea for a reinterpretation of captain marvel
>movie starts, is one lone figure floating in the middle of space
>quick cuts of war fighting, guns shooting, violence
>cut back to the astronaut, there is debris of her exploded spaceship floating around
>cut to a pilot fliying a jet desesperatly triying to steer the plane but ultimatly crashing
>final cut to the astronaut, close up on her face, she is shocked and terrified beyond belief, she is almost catatonic
>giant light shines on her, is something big and is getting closer, she looks at it and starts screaming
cut to title
>first scene is a new reporter talking about the brave captain danvers who miraculously came back from her mission into space...after falling with nothing but her spacesiut from the sky and surviving the crash

movie is about her dealing with what happened and trying to warn everyone of the oncoming alien invasion

It's all about the banter with Stark. That's why Chuck Theron would've been great. She's gotta have sex with Rhodey at some point too, or at least visit him in leg rehab.

Cast the blinding light as George Clooney and you get Gravity.

Larson + Cheadle

That's a 30 year age difference.

No way in hell they pull that off. They got away with Vision+Wanda because he's a robot.

It's either an military movie or a full-blown romance epic a la Gone With The Wind between a human, Carol, and an alien, Mar Vell. Those are the only two genres marvel hasn't touched.

Just do it, Marvel. It's currentyear.

They'd just use Falcon instead.

Visit him in rehab it is. They'd be Air Force buddies. 'Fly Boy' she'll call him. Fly Girl, thusly, is what he will call her.

Or a generic superhero origin where she gets powers , spends a big chunk of the movie learning to use them, then kills a lame villain.

You know, the genre Marvel touches in very intimate places.

I feel like Marvel Studios realizes nobody in the world could ever really give a shit about Spider-Woman unless their name is Brian Bendis.

If this movie is good, then i am fine because at least we are getting a good female lead movie, of course of wonder woman doesnt fail.

If this movie is bad then I am fine too because it will be easy to make carolfags feel bad, just imagine.

>almost a decade trying to pushing her
>her movie ends up being the worst MCU movie

The trolling of carolfags would never end for that year.

Falcon. Falcon and Carol are gonna fuck.

They've been trying to turn Carol into a man for the longest time so they might as well.

Why not both?
I mean, Ms. Marvel's origin is literally "boy meets girl, boy is also a space alien, shit happens and girl gets powers"

>She's gotta have sex with Rhodey at some point too,

Why? Because they spent all of two panels in some half assed relationship?

Wait if Rhodey is still alive and they are taking inspiration of KSD captain marvel, what stop them from making Rhodey x Carol ?

I hope the Captains hook up.

It could fail.. But we're talking Disney here. They're a machine. They'll focus group every aspect of this until it's a story worth telling.

Oh shi.. They were both in that!

Oh fuck yes

>carolfags
What, all 14 of them?

I have a question for the fan of Carol, how did you guys manage to survive KSD run of the character ?

I have asked this same question but to x-men fans after Bendis run ended, they says they basically ignored all Bendis books.

This. Disney gives us no reason to not trust that they will put out a worth film from the Captain Marvel brand given their track record.

in Sup Forums standars that would be half of the people in this thread.

>memes

You just read other good stuff and hope they eventually put on a good writer.

The current Carol book was actually pretty solid...but then CWII happened.

If they don't hook up, I hope they keep them bros at least. Would be a shame not to have any sort of dynamic between the two, especially since Brie and Evans are friends in real life.

No its not
its being changed because there biggest female hero got her powers from her boyfriend

WHELP

Just like real life.

Do you guys think they'll give her the ugly dyke haircut or will she actually look good in the movie?

are carol civil war tie in bad, I always see carolfags praising everything she is in.

The movies are made for a wide audience, they can't afford to give her such a polarizing haircut.

Definitely long hair, though she looks cute with short hair too.

Yes, but it wasn't as good. Pete Docter wrote the story and collaborated with Meg and Josh Cooley for the screenplay which Docter then directed. If anyone had a hand in making Inside Out great, it was Docter who based it on the experiences with his own daughter.

Hopefully she'll have her current haircut.

barely

she collided with a mad scientist's magic gene scrambler while her boyfriend happened to be in the room fighting

>I always see carolfags
I really can't imagine where this might happen. CBR maybe?
user you know better than to hang around there.

But yes, pretty much everything related to CWII not written by Ewing or Pak is shit.

Her "current" haircut is different in every series.

>Wanting Carol to have a butch cut

And her genes got scrambled with her boyfriend?

Good taste desu senpai

I want her to have red hair because she looks great with that color.
