Alex Hirsch is...actually pretty cool in some ways

Hackposting threads still pop up even though the show has been over for a long time, but although I don't agree with a lot of the things Alex did or his opinions, he doesn't really get credit for being pretty cool about free speech in the face of SJW tumblrinas.

I never knew about this while the show was airing, but apparently there was a popular GF shipping artist whose art blog an SJW brigade got deleted because she drew shippy fanart of an "aged up" character.

Later, Alex re-blogged one of her pictures after she'd put her art blog back up. During the Steven Universe Zamii incident, he also said that it is not the business of fans to censor other fans and decide what they can or cannot draw.

I don't think he ever gets any credit here for having a rational opinion about this amid this craziness.

Although it's "within reason" I am pretty uncomfortable with a few fans of comics and cartoons today trying to dictate what is "allowed" or not for everyone and I think free speech and expression are pretty important.

>whose art blog an SJW brigade got deleted because she drew shippy fanart of an "aged up" character

What? How did that offend them and why did the site owners delete the blog of the one being harassed?

Apparently they found a secret nsfw blog she had with characters drawn in a more cutesy or "chibi" style reporting it as child porn. Her blog was on tumblr and they delete or used to delete a lot of blogs just to be safe rather than sorry. She put a new blog up right away and it's still up and very popular.

There's a tumblr SJW group that thinks even "aged up" drawings of characters who are under 18 in the work counts as "child porn." This even counts of it's just sfw shipping art of two characters dancing or something. Apparently there were cases of them finding anyone who drew art they didn't like or expressed opinions they didn't like and doxxing them, trying to get them fired, reporting them to the FBI, and stuff. Most famously an artist in Steven Universe fandom who drew a cute Rose they decided seemed "too skinny" became the target of a harassment campaign and tried to kill herself.

They also doxxed her AND sent her drawings to her employer in an attempt to get her fired (I don't think it worked or that they cared).

A bunch of the creators talking about it during the Steven Universe incident including Alex and I guess Alex might have been referring obliquely to this case. I never knew about any of this while the show was still around. The witch hunt tumblr brigade then made a bunch of anti-Alex blogs and also talked about what evil monsters the Steven Universe creators were, including white girls calling Ian (a black guy) racist for not getting offended at Steven Universe fan art.

Anyway, what ever else happens, it is cool to see all the creators being reasonable.

Did anything come out of that statue hunt?

Some twitter girl found it first followed by a hunting family with a couple of kids.

no big announcement or anything? Just a statue?

Wasn't really expecting anything but disappointed all the same.

>A bunch of the creators talking about it during the Steven Universe incident including Alex and I guess Alex might have been referring obliquely to this case
Not really obliquely, it's pretty clear they were talking about the Zami incident. And then when Ian JQ told them "let people draw what they want to draw" the tumblrites got seriously anal-pained and set out on a smear campaign to label him as a pedophile.

What you see is what you get

Uh it was at the tail end of a massive international treasure hunt around the world (that had 50 threads here or something) and they periscoped it and Alex/TMoGF tweeted pictures and videos...what else did you want? Some news sites covered it too.

That explains way too much of Gravity Falls "lore" and "mysteries"

Learning about all of this has really lowered my opinion of the culture there, I know it's not everybody like Sup Forums retardation isn't everyone because they're just sites, but this shit is seriously vile and extremely stupid, all under the flimsy pretense of doing "good."

There was also a USB stick that unlocked the pilot, but the pilot wasn't very good.

Some money and drawings and sound files and the pilot usb and crap...did anyone ever figure out what the deal was with "Bradley" or if there was anything besides the song on the USB? And and the police had to come and take the statue into custody because of a property dispute.

Turns out people will do some pretty fucked up shit when they think what they're doing is morally right.

That said, it wouldn't be as much of a problem if tumblr's staff would stop turning a bind eye to this shit.

>That said, it wouldn't be as much of a problem if tumblr's staff would stop turning a bind eye to this shit.

I understand that it is hard because they have a lot to do, the site is doing poorly, but the site perhaps needs to change its whole business model and model of operation in general. The fear of being targeted and attacked can't help the bottom line, either. The people being attacked are also often the artists and creators that people are drawn to the site for, while the harassers often do nothing but bully and harass and try to tear down the creators.

No, you don't understand

Tumblr's staff is a bunch of hipster fuckwits who intentionally let SJWs get away with this shit while banning others.

>There was also a USB stick that unlocked the pilot
this pissed me off because he promised the pilot if we finished the physical puzzle, not if we found the statue.

I guess because the statue was a guarantee in that he would do something to get us a statue no matter what, even if something happened to that one, while the puzzle was take it or leave it.

That might be true. I think this kind of thing is actually antithetical to real civil rights and social awareness movements. It's very dehumanizing.

Is there a better website for people to post their stuff without worrying about a crusade being set on them because the group was offended?

soup.io

The sad thing is right now I don't think so, but with tumblr's financial troubles who knows what will happen.

The site got some bad press over the incident too. While this happens on FB and twitter too with tumblr it is more tied to the "culture" of the more niche site and that can't look good or be good. It is also discouraging for artists and writers to have to worry about assholes trying to get them fired from their job, or to get people to come to their house to harass/attack them, for their drawings or something they said about a show.

This.

DeviantART is a festering pool of piss, but precisely because of that it doesn't have a lot of censorship.

Thanks

It really is sad.

So...
> little to no censorship = festering pool of shit

>big to complete censorship = perfect environment for harassers, doxxers, and manipulators

Guess it's best to look for a website close to the middle ground.

>Guess it's best to look for a website close to the middle ground.

Just putting out and enforcing a statement saying "bullying and harassment is not acceptable" seems like it would help. Does one exist?

Soup? Really?
