JSA Storytime: Foolkiller

Good evening owls of Sup Forums,

It's been a long day, let's kill some fools

I 100% ship Johns-era Dirk/Brek

btw context is for the weak, we're just diving in to ten issues of Gerber

twitter.com/Sean_G_Murphy/status/764609884205813760

Murphy is getting a Batman book after ASB is done
>8 issues as of right now
>probably an elseworld?
>his Year 100, DKR, etc
>it's Bruce as Batman
>breaking "as many rules as he can"
>redesigning everything and everyone but still familiar
>no title yet

that's a neat "let the artist go nuts" project, sometimes those turn out amazingly

I wonder if the last name here is a nod to the famously reclusive author

...

...

...

This could easily get screwed over by whoever his colorist is. His art looks amazing in B/W

Hello Storyteller.

>Foolkiller
Is that even remotely as straightforward as it sounds?

Hopefully if he has that much say on the book he gets to say that.

Well this is unexpected.

odds are very low

sometimes I like to be weird

OH ALSO IT RAINED

it was glorious

check out that kickin' it old-school computer

>I 100% ship Johns-era Dirk/Brek
Honestly, you'd have to be fuckin' blind to not see it. There are so many "OH JUST KISS ALREADY" moments between those two, it almost comes off as a satire of the concept of bromance.

...

I think this is Gerber's best work, with his original runs of Man-Thing and Howard the Duck coming in second and third place respectively. Man had a great hand with satire and absurdist comedy.

This is a different person than the guy in Mercs 4 Money, right?

There was talk of more Batman B&W around the same time they announced Multiversity Too, so fingers crossed I guess

...

It was a nice day yesterday.

youtube.com/watch?v=U4DEkVrLNto

nope, this is him

awwwwwwww shit, son

...

yeah I dunno how good a writer Murphy is but even if he is good, the temptation of going ham can mess up most writers.

At least it'll probably look good.

That's the thing with Johns though, he does it so often I can't tell if it's on purpose or not.

...

he totally KNOWS

His Hal/Sinestro was totally on purpose after some point
There was some tweet about it with a winky face
He knows

yes, he knows what the slash means

this is a good line of thought to go down

this is also very early 90s

twitter.com/geoffjohns/status/243424441038684160

>And for all you Hal/Sinestro fans...read GL #0...and stay tuned! :) The story is only getting started!

Geoff, pls

Punk Rock Jesus really put me off Murphy as a writer. His art is great.

ignoring the terrible JL in the lead, this is a good sales list

>TOP 10 COMIC BOOKS:

> 5. BATMAN #3 [*] (DC)

> 8. NEW SUPER MAN #1 [*] (DC)
> 9. NIGHTWING #1 [*] (DC)
> 10. HAL JORDAN & THE GREEN LANTERN CORPS REBIRTH #1 [*] (DC)

>Nightwing issue beating a CW2 issue
>two Nightwing issues in the top 10
>Kenan in the top 10 and beating one nightwing issue

Ugh. This is a little too real.

This cuh-razy comic book called Foolkiller is harshing my buzz something fierce.

Well, he's definitely doing the Hal/Sinestro stuff on purpose.

This is legit one of the best miniseries ever.

Glad for New Super-Man. Been a while since a book I enjoyed did that well.

well this isn't prescient or anything

Never read that, what's up with his writing there?
Decompressed, bad dialogue, bad plot?

NSM is so cute

the Batman of China is wonderful

It's unsubtle in all respects.

...

>and now a recap

Something about this comic mixed with the rain outside is making this feel like the realest shit.

Also that this would make a really great Netflix miniseries.

I am thiiis close to keeling over but I wanted to read something with everyone tonight

Again, I think that book works due to the fact that it's a minority character who's actually a character. Kenan isn't some bland token who can do no wrong. He's an arrogant punk with a good heart.

Personally though, I love to watch Dr. Omen treat him like a lab rat. She even put a shock visor on him!

Yeah, he's my favourite of the characters so far. Gotta say I appreciate you changing tack here, I've never read this before but I'm feeling pretty into it.

oh shiiii

What do I have to do to get The Badger on Netflix?

There is a ton of weird niche Marvel just waiting to be read by me and thus us

>Steve Gerber
What do you think?

I wonder if the new Foolkiller will post on Sup Forums.

...

I dig the hat

...

...

...

Is it just me, or this guy's rambling hard to sympathize with? Like, that's how it's always been, dude. In every culture, every civilization, every nation, it's basically the same shit you're bitching about. Humans are shallow creatures. Cry the fuck more.

Use your druid powers.

...

Are we being asked to sympathize with the argument?

naw, Gerber's more complicated than that

Somebody in the Wednesday storytime thread pointed out it even kind of looked like the headband Sun Wukong is forced to wear.

Yeah, I didn't catch that but the purpose is exactly the same.

...

That one was kinda rhetorical, OP.

...

prepare for some tl;dr AND 80s political references

NOTHING OMINOUS HERE

I've pretty much given up on Murphy ever being in a well-written book. The closest thing was Joe the Barbarian, but that felt an awful lot like movie bait.

Looks like the machine I played Rogue on

ho shit it's BBS time, owls

Oh for Marvel to spend two issues on the correspondence between a murderous lunatic in a asylum and a desperate man in 2016.

I suppose Moon Knight is not too far off.

...

>tfw Gerber wasn't able to complete his Dr. Fate before he died
;_;

>for example, the Japanese.
HA! Remember when basically every cyberpunk story was about the inevitable threat of Japan taking over the world through economic dominance?

Swing and a miss.

...

Hell, that was half the American media in the 80s.

...

Well, we've only really changed the country right?

how much of the thread did i miss?!?

and one of my favorite comics!!!!

Happy B-day storyteller

thanks user, there was cake and mimosas

oh fuck, NAZIS

look at all these fucking books

Pretty much. Though the rest of the world was a lot more favorable toward the import of Japanese culture, in addition to theories on its upcoming economic dominance, than we're seeing with the current supposed boogeyman/future overlord asian country.

The fact that Japan actually TRIED to export some of its culture and be likeable, compared to the current nation's 'fuck you all, we'll be in charge soon, then you'll all be sorry' attitude? Probably part of it.

WHOOPS

I'm about to keel over, so thanks for reading, and we'll kill more fools this MONDAY

>the PURIFICATION GUN
Somewhere, sometime, Jake Gallows has an erection.

Happy XXth birthday, storyteller! I'd forgotten it was your birthday.

>walks into nazi skinhead muggers while pondering the questionable sensibility of vigilantism

Welp.

It begins.

We first thought was legitimately "is this staged?"

Happy birthday, user. Have a good sunday.

*My

Thanks for posting as always, Storyteller.

Happy birthday, for as much of an annual reminder of one's mortality can be happy, anyway.

Foolkiller seems kinda interesting so far. I do like a good antihero story.

Kinda curious: any other regulars of these threads reading Dungeon Meshi?

That's the great thing. It's raw and real as fuck, but it's also a demented satire.

Yeah, why?

> raw and real as fuck, but it's also a demented satire.

GERBER! love u

Just sometimes wonder what the outreach of people ITT is outside of cape comics. And to recommend it, I guess? The last couple of chapters have been great.

>Netflix miniseries.
Agreed. You'd probably have to lose the disintegration beam, though.
