Try reading some non-superhero comics sometime. Publications from Fantagraphics, Drawn & Quarterly, First Second Books, and even Image Comics and DC's Vertigo imprint feature a lot of the themes you're interested in.

Read George Perez Wonder Woman recently. Shit dives into serious IRL issues like drug abuse and teen suicide for inter-arc filler issues.
Shit now that I think about it he didn't stop there, several of the main arcs address themes that are more relevent today than ever.
