What's your favorite tv show user?
Game of Throns
It's overrated but not massively overrated. My main problem with this show is their decision to dedicate so much time to annoying characters.
I would say breaking bad is a more compelling drama
if sopranos came out today it wouldn't stand out as much, certainly, but that's a meaningless hypothetical since the things it'd compete with today would be far less subtle or ambitious if sopranos hadn't come out already.
true detective is 8 episodes, sopranos is 86. i'd like to see true detective maintain its quality for 80 more episodes (most would say it's failed already but i do think season 2 is on par w/ sopranos, though the steep decline from season 1 doesn't bode well)
Walking Dead
Jesus I'm glad I'm not the English teacher who has to grade your papers user.

You guys didn't disappoint :)
> this faccia di culo OP
Watched it last year, it aged well. Except some death scenes and the Livia CGI.
It's like Citizen Kane. In retrospect it's good, not great, but it changed tv forever
you mean Twin Peaks
People think Bryan Cranston is a better actor than James Gandolfini
People are tasteless vermin
>watch pilot episode of Sopranos
>Tony starts punching some guy
>ridiculously fake WHACKWHACK sound fx noise
immersion and series dropped
>*breathes heavily through nostrils*
wow impeccable range 10/10 performance
Although both GoT and Breaking Bad has artistic merit, great emotional and intense moments etc it still isn't anywhere near Sopranos.
Simply because it's still fairytales. Sopranos is real. It is as close to a look into an actual life that we will ever get. The emotions you are left with are genuine and grounded, they are not seasons of pushing forth certain characters and secrets that must surface in order for a crazy storyline to hit perfection and deliver the goods.
The goods are delivered every fucking second in Sopranos.
WATCH IT user
GoT has been putting out pure shite for years
Breaking Bad had a pathetic final season and treated its subject matter with comical inaccuracy
this. not to mention the sopranos is just generally a smarter show than pretty much any other i can think of. There's meaning in the shots and characters' expressions that doesnt have to be spelled out with dialogue or action
HAAHAHHAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH
*breathes in
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH
that's the early seasons for you
Also, it's unpredictable. Modern television shows love to throw in their hidden messages and symbolism that foreshadow future events in the show. Autistic reddit and Sup Forums users notice these details and create theory posts for future episodes, completely ruining the surprise later.
Literally all of Game of Thrones Season 6/7, Westworld, etc could be easily predicted once the details were noticed.
Only thing I remember the Sopranos doing was the "cut to black" speech a couple episodes before the Sopranos ending.
i just watched good fellas tonight, and i really enjoyed it. what are some other gangster movies or shows i should try, i have godfather 1-3 and casino downloading, and was thinking sopranos, but after that, i dont know any other gangster/mob movies or shows
The Sopranos is mobkino, you're just a pleb. Binged all 6 seasons over the last two months. Masterful tension-building scenes like Paulie and Tony on the boat.
I firmly believe that if you don't at the very least like and appreciate The Sopranos for being a complete artistic vision with well acted fully fleshed out characters dealing with the ups and downs of daily life in a subtle, not-in-your-face way, you have a broken brain and should stick to lesser shows like Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, etc.
Never in any of those shows will you find anything that even comes close to the Finnerty coma, or Tony talking to Junior in the last episode, or Janice's last talk with Tony. Or Adriana's silent car ride with Silvio. Hell, even small moments like Tony showing up to Raymond's birthday party just to leave immediately for ice cream at home. Or Vito Spatafore being mockingly referred to as Vitto Misto.
The Untouchables is very decent as long as you accept that Sean Connery can't do an accent.
Underages gtfo.
Sopranos was a show of the decade.
Sopranos = 2000's
Seinfeld = 1990's
Dallas = 1980's
All in the Family = 1970's

Great scene. Makes me sad everytime
Silvio was so nice, always bringing gifts.
>let's put a dark filter on the episode so the viewers know its serious
If you only watch tv for the plot then you're better watching garbage like Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones. The Sopranos is pure kino.
It was signifying the heavy atmosphere of death. The end of the show.
Every tv show made after 2010 is trash
The golden age was from 2003-2008
Fuck off pleb
No that's just Tuesday in New Jersey.
I Who Has Nothing. That scene is so fucking good. Very simple, not plot related, yet pure perfection. I haven't seen any other show pull off a scene like that, and very few movies for that matter. It's some YasujirĂ´ Ozu tier of kino.
:(
>friend is watching the sopranos for the first time
>complains how boring it is at times
>fell asleep at the coma episode
>"meh, just another of those dream episodes"
his favorite show is breaking bad.
I threw up in my mouth from that comment.
my family is Italian and I was never allowed to watch this show because it's apparently racist against us
is it true, or were my parents memeing me?
Its best not to bother user
The Sopranos is the Court of the Crimson King of television.
Better things have come out since, but it was the first time a trashy medium (rock music, television) could be considered "art."
(No the Beatles were not "art.")
You and your parents are retarded fucking queers
Better things such as?
(You)'ve earned it.
>Watched it
Good. That's all I ask for
Mr Robot
Mad Men
Generation Kill
Rat fuck
>Better things have come out since
Wrong. Only The Wire is as good.
Your parents probably read that in some dumb article instead of watching the show.
The Sopranos portrays a very clear divide between a small criminal minority against the mass majority of upstanding Italian American citizens. People who claim that The Sopranos portrays Italian Americans in a racist way are extremely shallow in their thought processes.
It's good, but there are parts that feels like cheap soap opera. Mainly any drama involving Tony's family. I still wish we had more Melfi ass on screen.
Fear of a Blank Planet, The Incident, The Raven That Refused to Sing, and Hand. Cannot. Erase are a few examples.
The Wire is even more overrated. After season 3 it's objectively stale to bad.
>this show is good but it could be better with more ass shots
these are the people that post on this site
One thing that bothers me:
Why is his name Jimmy? That doesn't sound very Italian. It sounds like a white person name.
You misread my comment, and even if you didn't, to be surprised at that only means that you're the one out of place here.
>defending having a broken brain
imagine Sopranos without Tony's homelife. It would never work.
Parents probably didn't want him to have a goomba name like Giacomo so they called him James.
Tony's homelife isn't the problem, the way it's handled is the problem. You can make good family drama without making it look like soap opera.
You really should stop reading comments while trying to find a way to get offended. It clouds your judgement and affects your reading comprehension.
Season 5 is mediocre until the few last episodes, but season 4 is just as great as season 3.
Oh yeah you just opened up my mind real good, thank you sir
Why just Jimmy? All their names are anglicized versions of latin names.
Season 3 is passable, season 4 is a waste of time with all those annoying kids.
Wrong again. But close.

>"When I came in one morning your head was half in the toilet. Your hair was in the toilet water."
>"Disgusting."
I can figure out the Latin roots of all the other names? What is the Latin root of "Jimmy?"
I am from Asia so I don't know all Christian names.
You're out of your mind. Season 3 and 4 are the greatest tv ever made.

People love confusing soap opera and family drama. One isn't always the other.
>two scenes out of dozens of hours of content
Don't do that.
>what is an example
you want a 12 hour compilation of great scenes?
Don't do that.
I both love and hate Tony here.
>SACRE BLEU
>WHERE IS MI MAMA
What a raging, petty cunt.
Jimmy is short for James, which is anglicized from Iacomo, and italians use Giacomo.
No joke. Once saw Late Autumn with a friend. He didn't like it. He thought it was a soap opera.
People tend to say that while Tony was being a complete bottom of the barrel cunt in that scene, Janice still deserved it for literally abandoning her child.
While the above is true, the real victims in that scene are the kids. There is no reason for Tony to do that in front of Bobby's kids.
Can you give examples of soap opera quality scenes in the show?
lets hear your side
find some terrible soap scenes
finn and meadow fight like retards in their steaming apartment for 20 minutes after finn made chili con carne
what kind of retard makes chili on a 200 degree hot summer new york day
Yeah fair point, Janice isn't exactly a sympathetic character.
She might have improved herself and not been such a cunt to Bobby's kids. Sad really, I really feel for those kids, to have a relatively nice mob dad and then for him to die and be stuck with that bitch.
my family is italian and had me watching goodfellas at the age of 5. Your family is just over-sensitive.
Season 4 would've worked better as a standalone show. They taking McNulty from the spotlight really was a turn down.
The series lost a lot of steam after season 2, but that's a personal opinion.
The real victims of the last episode of the show are Bobby's kids. The last scene with Janice is literally her saying that she won't even try any more with Bobby Jr and that "maybe" Sofia she has something with.
If this was a good universe, Janice would have been shot and Bobby would be there for the kids.
your parent's would like the character of dr melfi's ex husband
Thanks. These days Christian names are popular in my country but I still don't understand them all.
