>watches cartoons
>complains that it's childish

used to happen to me all the time. tv made me watch drive, castaway on the moon and a lot of other literally shit movies

Happens when you movie is the BEST SELLER in a country like Japan.

I give it a solid 8/10.

I was on the fence about watching it.
Luckily I showed some online friends who arent total failures in life the synopsis and they gave me their their answer on whether or not I should watch it. NO

Why didn't one of them look at a calendar?

Anime is shit.

hating the instagram inspirational aesthetic that's becoming increasingly popular in anime

>instagram inspirational aesthetic
Explain, child.

it was pretty good, 8-9/10 better than capeshit. First it was a bit clichée but then the time-shift aspect made it interesting in the middle

It's a fine and uplifting story with some fantastic animation in certain scenes. It's easy to see how it's made so much money and how it's compared to Miyazaki.

Is this anything like Whisper of the Heart or The Ocean Waves?

Who the fuck looks at calendars this day and age?

I actually just finished it too, and anyone talking about how it's "childish" or "for manchildren" or a "cartoon" has either not watched it and is judging it purely based on it being anime or animation, or is just incredibly deeply indoctrinated against anime/animation. If you are avoiding the movie just because "huh well it must be a cartoon for kids" then you couldn't be more mistaken.

This movie is absolutely kino, and even Western critics who don't normally watch anime (and may even be biased against it) almost universally agree. It's also one of the best looking anime and animation movies ever made, the production quality and attention to detail are insane.

The plot holes are the only real problem, but I'm sure Shinkai was aware of them and just decided to ignore them.

I guess it's a little similar to Whisper, but Shinkai's style is very different from Ghibli/Miyazaki. It's very modern and "anime" by comparison.

Ok, why didn't they look at anything with a fucking date on it?

Who consciously seeks out the year when looking at the date of something? The present year is a given. Even if you see something that said 2015 or whatever, you'll just think it's just something old, some future event, or a misprint.

The leaps and bounds you will go to defend this SHITTY movie. Do you now how many fucking things will have the date on it? Cellphones, blackboards, news reports, RECEIPTS have the fucking year on it.

THE MOVIE FALLS TOTALLY APART! IT IS FUCKING RETARDED!

You are exaggerating and being hysterical.

No one actually from this board told you to watch it
Only low IQ Sup Forumsedditors that watch game of thrones, capeshit, flavor of the month horror movies and trendy upvote approved 80 actions flicks told you

>and being hysterical
so?
>exaggerating
not really. the movie's premise falls apart under the least bit of scrutiny. Anything with a date on it would have instantly revealed the shaky ass "mystery".

You are just biased against it because it's anime, without even knowing anything about it. Then you try to justify it with this bogeyman nonsense about redditors.

It's obviously a plot hole and it's obviously something that Shinkai noticed and decided to handwave. You are exaggerating its importance and being hysterical.

I've never owned an iPhone, but my android does not display the year anywhere, even in the calendar. I don't know what exactly you mean by blackboards but that sounds like someone has to consciously by choice write it down, which varies person by person.
I'm checking the CNN stream right now, there's no year listed anywhere. Receipts do frequently have the year printed on it, but I haven't paid attention to that portion in a long time, and that's assuming they even keep or look at receipts

No, it's not important; it just makes the movie a silly stupid thing for children.

It's a plot hole. There are plot holes in live action movies, live action shows, books, games... it has nothing to do with being for children.

What's actually going on here after all is that you are biased against it because it's anime and now you're just trying to somehow justify it.

ANd those live-action shows are shit too. We are talking about this movie ITT, excuse me for pointing out a giant GIANT flaw in it.

No, a plot hole does not automatically make something shit. You are making excuses.

>No, a plot hole does not automatically make something shit.
It certainly does in the case of Your Name! Here is why: The entire premise hinges on it.

>a giant GIANT flaw in it.
That's not really a flaw. I haven't seen the year listed anywhere in a long time besides on Sup Forums posts. If I saw something listed as 2015, I'd just dismiss it as an old poster or old article. Imagine bodyswapping with someone. The last thing you'd do is hunt for the exact date.

they bodyswapped over the course of several months. They didn't realize they were in a different year ONE TIME?!

It is a giant flaw and completely pisses all over the movie.

It's an acceptable plot hole, and as the other user suggested it could even not be a plot hole, because there is a small possibility that neither of them happened to register the current year.

You are making excuses because it's anime and you are biased against it for that reason.

Yes? They don't swap every day for several months. They swap periodically for one day at a time over a long period of time. It's really not that far fetched.

>It's an acceptable plot hole,
Not really.
>You are making excuses because it's anime and you are biased against it for that reason.
You are making assumptions because you are biased itself. Just accept that the plot hole ruins the movie. Good design, great music, TERRIBLE STORY

starts off as light hearted and comfy and goes full blown donnie darko/nolan retardation by the end.

Excuses excuses. It is an utterly contrived situation that neither of them would realize they time traveled as well as body swapped.

You are making it VERY obvious that you are biased. You call it shit, claim it's for children, and claim that any plot hole will make anything shit. You are just looking for some reason to dismiss it. If it didn't have this plot hole you'd just think of something else.

Why are there so many threads shitposting this movie lately? Did one person just get really butthurt by it? I've never seen threads about this movie until the other day.

Fact is that this movie has a very big plothole and it ruins the entire story. Whether or not I like anime has nothing to do with it.

>one gets swept into a backwater town with access to nothing
>the other gets swept into a bustling city where she's swamped with shit she has to do
>both are just dumb confused kids
>WHY DIDN'T THEY LOOK AT THE DATE
fucking stupid

Because it was a dreamlike experience, and when you're in a dream you don't act rationally.

any thread that's not celebrities twitter or capeshit is an improvement to the board

It doesn't ruin the story let alone the entire movie, and your opposition to anime has everything to do with this.

Blu ray released

Oh look, more excuses. Hey, look, it's a different year! Hey this newspaper I glanced at has a different year on it! Hey, why are the Olympics playing on TV when it's not an Olympic year? Hey why is it election season when its not an election year? Hey...

>It doesn't ruin the story
It totally does.

stop feeding the troll he's just being a faggot

>dreams are a massive theme throughout the movie
>their time in each other's bodies was described as being like in a dream
>why don't they remember the date???

Is this the extent of Sup Forums criticism?

Anyone praising this trash knows nothing about cinema

remember this OP

Anyone who thinks this is trash doesn't know anything about cinema.

>dumb japanese kids paying attention to olympics or politics
I think you've lost touch on what kids do

>childish as fuck
Well, that's anime for you. There are very few exceptions —and I ain't talking about Miyzaki.

Yes. If you like thing you find one thing you liked about it and keep harping on about that one thing if anyone challenges you, as if it's the only criteria. If you don't like thing, just do the same thing but with one minor issue you had with it.

I think you've lost touch with good storytelling.

>your name
My name is not important. What's important is what i am going to do.

blog.sakugabooru.com/2017/07/28/kimi-no-na-wa-your-name-production-notes/

>Castaway on the moon was bad

WRONG

>good storytelling is having kids behaving as adults instead of kids
I think you've lost touch on what good storytelling is.

>still acting like a plothole ruins a story especially when it's fantasy

you know how i know you have autism?

Your favorite movies are on picture related

You know nothing about cinema or art. All your other posts in this thread show your complete lack of cinematic IQ as well. You have the sensibilities of a redditor

It isn't childish and isn't aimed at children either. You are just taking him at his word because it's anime and of course you "know" it must therefore be childish.

Why is it always fpbp? Is it because they got in before the memeing started.

Try watching The Garden of Words if you like the genre of slice of life anime :)

>You know nothing about cinema or art.
I do. You don't.

>You have the sensibilities of a redditor
Bogeyman nonsense. This movie has nothing to do with reddit. It's a Japanese movie, made for Japanese audiences, chiefly successful in Japan.

Like so many others you are just against it because it's anime, and that's it.

If only the movie had some excuse like fuzzy memories and dreamlike logic. Hmmm

Is it better than 5 centimeters per second or Place promised in our early days?

I thin you've lost touch with not being butthurt.

>you "know" it must therefore be childish
Yes, that's the power of anime for you.

Try this
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Sight_&_Sound_Top_50_Greatest_Films_of_All_Time

I used quotes for a reason. You don't actually know, you just "know." You are just assuming things based on your bias against anime.

>Your favorite movies are on picture related
>did not deny this
There you have it lurkers. This is the mind of the anti-art plebeian that has come to this art board in the last few years

A gob of spit, the ones who destroy board landscapes with their complete and utter lack of cinematic knowledge

>accusing of samefag for posts literally 5 seconds apart

you know how i know you're a dumb faggot?

>did not deny this
I didn't address it in any way because there's no reason why I would or should.

>This is the mind of the anti-art plebeian that has come to this art board in the last few years
I am pro-art, you are anti-art. I am familiar with cinema, you are not.

>>accusing of samefag
Lol I did no such thing. Enjoy your shit storytelling.

stupid phone poster normie newfag go back

yes, both of those were shit

garden of words and your name are the only two shinkai movies you should watch

>phone poster
Wrong.

It blows them out of the water, especially the latter.

the bodyswaping messed with their time and space perception and made their brains mute details, like dates, that would break reality

the same way the brain tries to reconstruct reality when faced with an optical illusion for example

there, problem solved

>actually denying it even though we both know it's true

pure cancer and there's nothing i can do to stop you

It just occured to me that the way the diary vanished from the phone suggests that real life logic is not entirely applicable here.

Be quiet, kid. Do you know how I developed my """biases"""? Through watching anime. I'm """assuming""" things because I've seen a shit-tonne of anime already, and I know that most of it is childish shite that can't hold a candle to cinema. You're on Sup Forums, son, so why don't you let go of your """bias""" towards those who dislike anime, and begin to """assume""" that most of us outgrew our weeb phase? I've been there, and I've moved on. You'll feel the same way on your eighteenth birthday.

Lol wow do I need to take a picture of myself on my computer for you?

Is this the same guy who did Garden of Words? That shit is beautiful.

>kid
I'm older than you.

>I'm """assuming""" things because I've seen a shit-tonne of anime already, and I know that most of it is childish shite that can't hold a candle to cinema.
You are obviously lying.

Congratulations you found someone more autistic than you.

>watches cartoons as an adult
>watches cartoons that aren't in a language he's fluent in

See This is exactly what I was talking about.

>a Mac

Kill yourself.

I have a PC too and I will gladly murder you first.

>reading a paragraph of unadulterated autism about Japanese drawings
Anime is gay and you know it

do people actually laugh at those jokes? are you fucking retarded?

>outing yourself as a normie this hard

okfag

Right, of course. Must be "autism." Everyone who don't shit on the movie, like 98% of critics who watched it, must be "autistic." The people who propelled it to the 4th highest grossing movie of all time in Japan and the 7th highest grossing 2D animated movie of all time must be "autistic." It's always some bogeyman or another.

anime is still gay

The only issue I had with it was that the pacing fell apart a couple times. It started off alright and then stumbled through its second act and then the third act fell to pieces. The third act could have been tremendous . . . oh wait I thought this was the movie about the deaf girl.

This one was alright I'm trying to think of what stood out the most. This movie was pretty nice compared to some others I've seen. Unique premise, characters weren't completely one dimensional, executed well. Maybe that was just a nice evening but that movie was alright.

>This movie is absolutely kino
The perfect confluence of stereotypical nerdy plebshit, it's the average Sup Forums poster, relatively new to the site, who goes to all the big boards on the site and shits them all up equally with his narrow knowledge and experience with various artistic mediums. He knows mainstream video games, he knows mainstream anime, he knows mainstream cartoons (especially those from the 90s and early 00s), and he knows only the biggest comic book characters. And he feels marginalized by society because of how much of a shut in he is, so he'll have the most shallow Sup Forums opinions and tastes. He'll prattle on endlessly about cucks and interracial porn, but he isn't informed or even cares about international political issues and happenings. It's just a slight veneer of racism and misogyny and the rejection of anything that could be considered "degenerate."

And the cross poster signals all of this to his other cross posters with the word "kino." It's like those hobo chalk signs. You slap it on a thread so other cross posters know it's safe to come out of the woodwork.

Uh huh. Yes, yes, I'm obviously lying because there's absolutely no way I've wasted hundreds of hours watching shitty cartoons during my teenage years, and a couple dozen on the occasional film or show since then. Unfortunately I have. It's time for you to grow up.

>All those words to say nothing

Complete nonsense.

You are irrationally biased against anime and have no idea what you are talking about.

Yes, you are lying. If you spent so much time watching anime then you'd know perfectly well what the truth is and why it's ludicrous to dismiss Your Name as a "cartoon" whose fans need to "grow up."

You can call it whatever you like, but anime is still gay
