Paper bags were actually really uncommon but now in cities that banned plastic bags if you choose to buy bags at checkout they'll usually be paper.

It’s really rare actually. Most stores offer plastic bags and alternatively some Americans bring reusable cloth bags whenever they go grocery shopping because it’s less wasteful.
