wtf

Tonight's comic! Let hugging commence!

(I actually like this one. I think Joyce's ability to be optimistic and find the good in the world despite everything that's happened is admirable.)

youtube.com/watch?v=L8a0Us8y-r4

Becky's infecting her through the shirt.

>They've only been in school for a few weeks. A month tops.
>Development still happens in real world time, ala six years

With everything that's been happening at this school in one month alone, it's somewhat surprising that nobody has outright dropped out.

She was never really close to Billie, why would she even be upset?

Shhhhh, if you point out stuff like that it'll ruin Willis' fantasy.

billie was the first friend she made at school

She really doesn't talk much with Billie. If they have 15 strips together, it's too much.

I'm just saying, there's bound to be at least one person who realizes that everything that's happening at this school is happening to this certain subsection of students who all happen to live on this single dormitory floor.

Actually, I'd love to see a story like that: A complete bystander to a large series of ongoing events comes to realize that said events are happening to a certain group of people who are interconnected in far too many ways to be coincidental.

Anyways, I just remembered that Sarah should have gotten in trouble a long time ago for whacking a guy across the head with a baseball bat.

I kinda get the sentiment of the strip, but I feel like the panel 3 speech is poorly done. It seems like she's saying she can't stomach her feelings of anger, fear and sadness in the first bubble, which makes me think it should start with "I have to smile" instead of "I can smile." I also feel like a week of anger, even with the peak of the visit home, never really hit an exhaustion point. She was willing to cuss her mom out about a dress, for goodness' sake.

The second bubble seems to be missing a link. She has to smile, because even though she's back things will never be the same? Shouldn't it be more that she *wants* to smile to try and recapture how things were before, not that she has to? This sounds like Beckying, in that she thinks that presenting a smiling Joyce will make everyone act like they did before as if that erases whatever trauma they're dealing with. The first bubble at least acknowledges her difficulty processing the other emotions, which Becky herself hasn't gone into.

The first bubble is alright, but the second seems bad. And like I said, I get the notion and I think the strip in general is alright, I just think Willis missed the mark on making a profound speech here.

When is this cockfag going to draw more terrible porn?

Like it's not even good but I just like collecting it and it's at least better than the main fuckup comic because nipples.

Sarah didn't get in trouble because nobody reported it.

I should have expanded on my earlier thought with that.
What I meant was that Sarah should have been reported by somebody, even a complete nobody whose name we never actually learn nor becomes an integral character into the story at any point.

Is anyone else here unable to lift their ring fingers independently of their other fingers or is there something wrong with my hands?

I can do it but it's very difficult...

>Actually, I'd love to see a story like that: A complete bystander to a large series of ongoing events comes to realize that said events are happening to a certain group of people who are interconnected in far too many ways to be coincidental.
DUDE

We talked about this last thread, apparently some people can because of genetic shenanigans (mine always moves the pinky at the same time)

Give me a complete list of dormmates and I'll try to work out a character map.

Also because "I hit him because he was trying to rape my roommate" is a pretty good defense.

It works better if you interpret Joyce's actions since Toedad as an attempt to retain a sense of normality that she finally realized was pointless following her trip home.

>Give me a complete list of dormmates and I'll try to work out a character map.
In the last thread, somebody listed every character by sexual orientation. You could start with that.

>Also because "I hit him because he was trying to rape my roommate" is a pretty good defense.
True, but as far as I remember, nobody actually knew it was attempted rape until after the fact. For all that some random witness in this well-populated party would have known, Sarah just cold-cocked the son of a preacher upside the head with a wooden baseball bat.

>For all that some random witness in this well-populated party would have known, Sarah just cold-cocked the son of a preacher upside the head with a wooden baseball bat.
Oh god I can hear it now.
>"The reason I didn't report it is because he's white and I'm BLACK."

Except Joyce is right there to corroborate what happened.

Also I don't know who is roommates with everyone, that's why I'm asking.

Willis' been a turbo tumblr PC propagandist since the mid 2000's. Why even point it out

The edits that come out of the terrible porn are pretty great. I wish I'd saved links to 'em.

The cast page lists whose roomie people are.

>Straight:
>Jocelyne/Josh
So... does that mean he/she likes boys or girls?

boys

This is reading more and more like daytime television soap operas. I hope Willis isn't watching any currently.

Preacher's Son and In the Local Sports Team would be valid defenses in the hack plot. Maybe some thinly veiled "10 Minutes of Action" commentary.

One day, his target audience will have a moment of clarity and realize that Willis is a married middle aged white guy with two kids, and thus might not be the best spokesperson for their various social/political issues.

The only thing they do quicker than setting up idols is knocking them over.

He's had a fanbase for at least 15 years. Good luck with that.

I definitely felt that crack forming when I realized he was trying to say that he is totally the same person as the girl who almost got raped and had all this other crap happen to her.

no no no we WANT daytime TV soap operas. That would be hilarious. Daytime TV is completely balls-to-the-wall insane at times and if Willis managed to eke out a single plotline as ridiculous and hilarious as...
- the time Passions had an actual orangutan as a nurse named Precious (this was in 2004. Not the weird 80s/early 90s, 2004)
- the time One Life to Live did an actual "time travel back to the Old West" storyline
-the time Ryan's Hope had a character get kidnapped by a gorilla
-the time General Hospital did a Mr. Freeze plot about a diamond that ended with Elizabeth Taylor putting a curse on a couple of newlyweds

Or anything of that nature, this strip would be worth it. He'd play it completely seriously, of course, and it would just be like watching a hot air balloon wreck. It'd be amazing. Frankly, the only thing that would be better is if Willis started watching telenovelas.

Wasn't Passions also the one that had an evil magic clone in the 90s?

Am I the only one who ships Joyce and Ken?

Probably.

I watched Passions once or twice for whatever reason, and that show is shit-chucking insane.

Have you ever thought about just sticking all of the links into a pastebin and posting that? It'll save you some time and it clogs up the thread less.

Who the hell is Ken?

There is nothing wrong with it bigots. -->

>born with a penis
>still looks like a guy and isn't currently making an effort to look like a girl
>likes men
>this is straight because they identify as trans
I feel like anybody who likes partners with the same genitals they have themselves should probably still be classed as some sort of faggot.

This guy.
Eh.

forgot pic

Why is it taking real time YEARS to get through a month's worth of comic drama? Is there really no place for the story to go?

>still looks like a guy and isn't currently making an effort to look like a girl
That's not really their fault to be fair, getting disowned is a pretty scary experience.

Ohhhhhh, that dope. Does he have any personality traits? Anything that makes him real at all? Because from what I remember, he was as bland as milquetoast.

He had a cute relationship with Lucy in 'Shortpacked'

>Hugged without asking consent

Literally rape

That's... actually really nice.
To be fair, when Willis does balls to the wall insanity, he still fucks it up. Anybody here remember The Car Chase That Physics Forgot?

Willis decompresses his storyline to hell and back again. It's worse than an actual comic book; at least they know to get one story done in six months across twenty pages per month (a total of 120 pages).

I wonder what the longest amount of time Willis has spent on a single storyline has been.

>-the time Ryan's Hope had a character get kidnapped by a gorilla

H....Harambe?

That's gay and you're stupid.

He's ethan but (assumed to be) straight

Jealous? Jealous of what?

>>Anyways, I just remembered that Sarah should have gotten in trouble a long time ago for whacking a guy across the head with a baseball bat.

I wonder how many Willis fans actually think that it's okay to hit somebody on the head with a baseball bat. IRL people die from that.

Here's part one.

Part two.

Most people have their middle finger and ring finger linked- if your middle finger is restrained, you won't be able to move your ring very much. It only works one way though, your ring finger doesn't really affect your middle.

If you put your hand like this on the table, most people should be able to lift their index and pinky fingers with ease, but be completely unable to budge their ring.

Oh, that was actually it. This is actually that guy's last physical appearance; anything after this is hallucinatory.

Anyways, he should have definitely had some kind of concussion or even brain damage after being hit directly on the skull twice with a solid wood baseball bat swinging full speed as well as the part where Sarah implicitly stomped on his head.

In any case, he should not have been able to get away because he would have been knocked unconscious. If anything, it's him who people would have discussed taking to the hospital, not Joyce.

Well, he did just drug Joyce and attempt to sexually assault her.

Dina isn't asexual. Her biggest issue is that everyone treats her like an asexual child because she's autistic, when she's actually a normal girl (gay or more likely bi) with trouble expressing herself.

Well, I mean, yeah.

But being hit in the head twice with a bat and being stomped upon once should not have allowed this guy to get away. Plus, with the number of witnesses crowding around the area when it went down, there's no feasible way for a man who is bleeding out of his nose and mouth to have slipped away without being noticed, much less without making any noise.

Like, seriously, this is Batman levels of stealth and Deus Ex Machina levels of bullshit. David Willis is the worst God.

After stumbling out of the dorm, Ryan made it halfway across campus before passing out. Lacking prompt medical attention he passed away in the underbrush of a drainage ditch, where his corpse remains to this day.

Or he managed to get medical attention, but the brain swelling and subdural hematomas left him with permanent brain damage. He now requires constant care, his verbal skills and motor skills reduced to that of a toddler and his IQ a fraction of what it once was. The cruelest punishment is he retains enough awareness to know that he didn't used to be like this and that it's his fault.

>(gay or more likely bi)
I kinda thought of her as Pansexual.

See, now that's actually a good outcome in terms of dramatic conflict. It could also spin into a storyline for Sarah in which she realizes that her violent potential has serious and severe consequences, and that she's essentially gotten away with murder.

It's not just "Oh, he got away; now we have a plot device for why Joyce will always need somebody to walk with her out on campus, which results in more shipping."

Speaking of which, I still don't see why it would be in open spaces that Joyce would be afraid to be alone. If anything, it should be crowded and enclosed areas where she starts to grow anxious. Claustrophobia as a result of a traumatic experience.

>all that
Have I been missing a goldmine of hilarity?

My college professor told me that daytime soap opera writers just sit around and smoke weed all day to get story ideas

So, bi.

The problem is that Sarah is in the clear from a moral and legal standpoint. While she might feel bad that he died or was left crippled, she doesn't have a reason to feel bad about protecting Joyce.

Though you are right that it opens up new dramatic conflict. Something like Joyce finding out that Ryan was left invalid and wanting to help his family would be a great exploration of forgiveness.

And panic attacks don't have to follow logic. Crowded and enclosed areas could just as likely provide a sense of control.

I agree, but I knew if I said that, someone would do this , so I just said bi.

I don't know about all the rest, but Passions was flat out batshit insane. It's like every single Gothic novel mashed together by a bunch of sexual deviants who are playing a World of Darkness game.

Who the hell says they're queasy out loud? Show, don't tell.

Ken and Lucy were part of the brief Shortpacked 2.0 era before Willis realized most of his target audience actually cared about new characters. Asian Ethan and Chocolate Dipped Amber couldn't save things.

I'm just impressed he's been able to keep this routine going for so long. Guess it helps that his personal army descends on anyone who would leave anything resembling criticism on his comments section and twitter. That makes the idol worshiping easier.

So did Shortpacked 2.0 fail because it was too close to the original version or because Willis failed to build the new characters before transitioning out the old ones?

>this is the kind of crazy shit my grandma has been rushing to watch every day for well over a decade
>the same grandma always telling me to stop watching children's cartoons

I think it failed because Willy decided making an effort in his work was beneath him and left to write this smegma.

To be fair to grandma, most soap opera plots are just banal romantic melodrama.

i thought she was punching joyce in the stomach in the fifth panel

Not of a build for some, yeah. Ken had a little bit, Lucy was originally "Girl from Willis' Starfire strip" before he attempted to make her an actual character.

But ultimately, after attempting to push these two and Malaya he realized he could just do college slice of life stuff on cruise control for years and be more profitable.

She's shown no interest in even the idea of sex. It's likely she's bi, but as far as I know, there's been no evidence of such in the Walkyverse, since everyone's orientation remains the same. Supposedly. Feel free to link some comics to prove me wrong.

On that note, I've added two new categories: "straight with an exception" and "unknown but not straight."

Here's the full list now, for completionist's sake. "Trans girl" was on there before but hasn't been relevant recently.

Straight:
Mary
Joyce's would-be rapist (Ryan)
At least one of the Rachels (there are two)
Agatha
Dorothy
Walky
Joyce
Amber/Amazi-Girl
Sarah
Sal
Jocelyne/Josh (likes guys)
Roz

Bi:

Gay:

Trans girl:
Josh/Jocelyne (straight [likes guys])
Carla (asexual)

well, a stopped clock is right about twice a day.

which is about accurate, considering the pace of this comic.

dumbingofage.com/2015/comic/book-5/03-the-butterflies-fly-away/safe-2/
dumbingofage.com/2015/comic/book-5/03-the-butterflies-fly-away/hypotheses/

Either she's a homo/biromantic asexual, or she's a homo/bisexual and the comic just hasn't brought up the topic of sex yet because she only started dating her girlfriend like a week ago.

Personally, I read these two strips as the later, her saying she is an adult who enjoys adult things, and fuck everyone for treating her like a 12 year old just because she's autistic.

The first hit was justified. When he was on the ground and no longer a threat and she kept beating him it gets kinda muddy.

Why do they need to be concerned about Billie? Between Walkie, Joyce and that fucking Becky, why are they worried? Supposedly it was Ruth that was suicidal- Billie was just supporting/fucking her for all they know.

This guy looks way too much like Tycho from Penny Arcade to me.

Would it be bad if I just pretty much made him Tycho for the parody of the party arc?

Oh my god, he totally does look like Tycho.

Don't straight up make him Tycho, but make it a parody of him. Like he's got the pretentiousness and needlessly verbose vocabulary. Maybe have him compare the Joyce-parody to some animal and that's why he wants to fuck her.

Are there genuinly people who enjoy Willis' work unironically?

It's just so awful...

Here's the next strip.
Also, now that I'm in college, I can do backgrounds based off that.

Alright, I'll have fun doing that. Thanks user.

Many many people. I was one of them until I actually went to college.

Can you expand on WHY you liked it unironically?

>Keeping your weed with your lunch

Ok, I just tried drawing Ryan in my style, and I didn't even use Tycho for a reference and he still looks like him, a little.

Is it that bad, or should I change up something like his head shape or hair color?

Neptunia's an idiot.
