I know character art changes over time but really resisting the temptation of just re drawing the first pages

...

Sometimes I draw porn of my characters and fap to it. Is that weird?

Would you fap to pictures of your real-life children? Because it's exactly the same thing.

I wish people drew porn of and fapped to my characters.

I won't draw it but if you do porn of it I will fap to it

Don't do it man, I love reading a webcomic and seeing the characters slowly improve and be more assertively drawn. It's like seeing an idea hatch almost from the inception.

I thought it was impossible to fap to your own work?

It hasn't gotten to that point, but I made my MY very sexual and French and I think I might be acquiring a new fetish or two

Are machine abominations overplayed?

worry more about execution over originality, except if its zombies

have you ever taken some time to read your own comic?

how would you describe your own writing?

i had to do this exercise at school where i had to bring a scene from my favorite movie and before showing it i had to basically write a blogpost answering a bunch of questions

just to put an example, the first question was "who am i?", everyone in the class used a bunch of metaphors and one guy even wrote the entire thing as a poem

i just wrote, im user

i did the same for the rest of the questions, when i started hearing what everyone else wrote, i started thinking "oh well i guess im shit at writting"

but surprisingly something in the combination between the scene i showed and the things i wrote somehow moved the teacher and she started talking about a bunch of stuff

i mentioned my comic just in a little part of my text and now the teacher and some classmates want to hear more about it during script writing class

like fuck i don't even know what i did

I am going to do a mars comic after a few more years practice.

That's just it. it's okay to use shortcuts, you then have to explain those shortcuts to people
you can just say "this guy is me" then you explain yourself to someone who doesnt know you
same goes for writing, for how it describes visuals, since there aren't pictures. you go "this guy looks tough" then you describe what he has on him that looks tough

the way you use black and white to give it that space adventure feel is great, i don't think i could do something similar, so that can make your comic really special

but yeah that's not how boobs or hair works, you just need a little bit of practice, keep it up

Been writing a new episode for ''Longfall'', called ''War Path'' where a little civil war ignites in the police HQ.
Especially the Supernatural Affairs unit is under fire, and my burnt-out MC is about to lose his job and has to make a shady deal to save his own ass.

I have a crush on (You)
would you like some Autismcakes?

WIP of the next page!

lots of words.

So many words, in fact, that it actually made my program lag a little.

knockdownbitches.tumblr.com/post/149349591182/062-in-which-everyone-freaks-out-over-something
Hey look! I can't draw for shit!

please justify your text

t's just some stupid bois trying to be better than one another.

hey could i get a link to the discord, wanna jump into the community.

I think 'justify' is a term in lettering. it means like alignment or something
holy damn shit that is a bulge. that goes beyond a bulge.
villain*
just FYI, Eugene is the usual spelling. Dunno if you've already used it as Eugine before.
>Peenus
what is this, misterpoll?
yourself* one word.
minuscule*
cords*
drawn out* two words
I have to imagine that dude's dick is square in cross-section too.
This was a valiant attempt at Mojo Jojo speak but it really didn't work for me.

That's an endless loop, man, don't do it. Take it from someone who's been aching to do it and knows it's never end.

I don't think it's weird, but I'm sure as hell not into it. I'd say go nuts.

I do re-read a lot of my stuff, but since I've been doing SoL for the last 8 or so years, I'm not concerned about the writing, as in "the events that transpire" But I am always wondering "If this happens, how would the characters react? What's everyone saying on these? How would they deal with disagreements? And stuff like that. Then I make sure I follow thru.

Welp, I did some changes in this page, to find something that sticks; I changed Johnny's pose and the dialogue a little bit, but I think this is going to make something that I wanted to be a subtle hint, extremelly obvious. We'll see when the next pages get done.

That sideproject I've been working on lately is figuratively consuming me from the inside, I want out, but I'm a good sports, so I will aid SVC as long as I can. But man, I'm pushing all my personal works way back with this, and I can't shake the feeling that the final product is terrible, even for my standards.

This doesn't happen when I do stuff for myself ;_;

Oh, I wasn't trying to be mojo jojo, I was just trying to make the longest string of text I could with this comic.

I'm with you Earthy. Every so often I kick around the idea of at least COLORING the old comics, maybe as some kind of patreon goal if I ever got popular, but I've told myself there's no way I could redraw it. I'd need to preserve every little flaw.
the lettering, sure, so it'd be more readable, but the old art would just get colored, not 'fixed'
anyway new pose looks good
>subtle
What, that he doesn't have any pubes?
I try to do it every so often, to refresh myself. in fact, I'm past due for a reread right now. I always come up with new plot ideas, callbacks to old shit, shit I set up but never followed through with...

>What, that he doesn't have any pubes?

No, no, I was talking about the writing. I think the way she speaks now, compared to the previous version of this pages makes a hidden subplot far more obvious. Of course, now that I explain it, you're likely to figure it out on your own, but I'm wondering if the readership would be able to caught up as it is, without me telling them. I'm sure future strips are gonna blow it out of proportions, tho.

Well just remember anytime something clever is ruined for the clever people, it's made more obvious for clueless people like me.

>clever
Don't oversell it now, man.

Question for comic doers; How's your interation with your readership? Do they talk to you, do they follow you on other outlets apart from your webcomic/s? Share your experience.

I used to get more comments when I started with Johnny and co. Nowadays, with the hiatuses and whatnot, everything fell apart, so I barely got anything. same with facebook. I made a facebook fan page, and got like 40 people there which only a few are friends irl, but I never got comments from other than said friends.
I'm hoping my next work, being more family friendly oriented, manages to bring more people to interact with.

And, just in case, you can reply to this without gloating, Miss Melee.

I get comments once in a blue moon. ;_;

I always reply to those.

Usually I get around 40 people each day.

The change in his pose improved it a lot. Good work.

I get a few people on my cbox. One or two from here, occasionally asking legit questions.
Then I get these random weirdos, one of whom seems to think I'm his best friend and he can constantly act like we're in mid-conversation, whining about wanting to see his favorite sidecharacter again.. and another who keeps suggesting they get new gear.

Thanks a lot, then I'll make this one final and get it in line for colouring.

El Bumpo

Ive been stuck wondering this for a while. I want to make a comic, but I dont like drawing nor writing. I'm attracted only to the end result and not the actual process. And as a result, I end up rushing my drawings and the writing because I want to get it done asap. How I do overcome this and find enjoyment in the journey?

make something simpler
maybe just a series of little simple drawings, as if intended to be stickers or something

well can you tell me what's the story you want to make for your comic?

drawing and writing take time, and it's always going to take effort to get things right, i have re started and redrawn my stuff a bunch of times but it is still fun because you can see yourself improving overtime

if you are just starting try to take things slowly just write or draw little things from time to time

it's kinda hard to give you advice because you don't like drawing or writing, but honestly you need to learn them to get to the final thing, like i wish i could just do the same thing justin roiland or matt groening did and just pitch the story and have my cartoon, those are just super special and kinda lucky cases

so start as simple as you can and try to have some fun even if you don't like drawing or writing you can find ways to make it fun

i think i first started drawing my characters on a 3ds because i was bored

also a lot of stuff i wrote for my comic is based on this song youtube.com/watch?v=yE8C1WWixgc

Wip

Its hard to explain my situation without getting specific, but heres my case so far:

What I really want is to form something like roosterteeth, and host my own youtube series like rwyb or comics. And what ive been doing so far is making fanart of popular anime series, so I can build an internet presence. But while Im doing fanart of an anime series i know nothing about, I have to resist the temptation of drawing what I want like a comic or oc characters. And now that im doing fanart of anime characters and other pop culture icons, I know I must watch anime and movies to keep up with times. But I cant even force myself to do that. Theres so much fucking anime and movies to watch, its overwhelming.

So now, I dont know what to think. I want my own company, but i dont like doing the work that goes into it. I dont know if its right or wrong to force myself to do things to achieve a goal. I used to be ontop of watching anime and movies; keeping up with the times, but now ive let myself go.The only thing i do is draw fanart of shit ive never seen in hopes I make a company like rooster teeth. And now, im starting to stagnate more and more on drawing fanart.

Keeping up with the times is easier if you decide what they are, instead of letting other people decide for you.

Watch what you want.
Draw what you want.
if your ambitions are met with effort you'll succeed.

thats all there is to it. besides like, a good attitude.

lets be honest
that red backdrop would look better on chris evans leaving ben affleck with nothing
(just like you)

>Theres so much fucking anime and movies to watch, its overwhelming.

Sounds like you just want an excuse to procrastinate and watch anime and movies all day. There's like 1, very rarely 2 anime per season at most who are popular enough to warrant fanart.

Trying to develop a style for a comic. None of these are actually characters, but I'm just working on a style to use. I drew these characters throughout the past week. Any criticisms/comments?

i don't think that can be called a style yet, your proportions are just not consistent

this is not /ic/ so i will not tell you to learn anatomy or scream loomis at you

but what you really need to learn is how to draw basic 2d shapes

youtube.com/watch?v=tsdkhQis34U

that's it designs that simple could really benefit from you learning anatomy and proportions

but i have learned that some people just doesn't have the time or the disipline to learn it or maybe they just want to draw for fun

so just learn to draw the basic shapes , build your characters around them and you'll be ok

shit i meant 3d shapes sorry im sleepy

What does your character eat for breakfast, /hyw/?

I have trouble deciding if I should make my story happen in our world or a world similar to ours.

Microwaved tea and cold pizza from last night

Cereal and Milk

Thinking about making a small webcomic/comic or whatever you want to call it and have a few ideas. Should I make it Sci-Fi(story would be similar to a space marine travelling planet to planet), Shonen(inspired by naruto) or Fantasy(DnD styled adventure, small group is formed over time with like goals)?

cigarettes and coffee

...

Homemade fruit shake, egg whites, toast with grape jelly.

I'd say just do whichever idea generates the most ideas in your head when you think about it, as well as which of the three genres excite you the most.

Like all creative arts, just create the things that interest you. That's the best way to become engaged in creating something.

My webcomic Monster Lands just updated. The wizard monster Exris is teaching Eren how to create monsters while also revealing how disposable he finds his creations.

You can read mo' at monster-lands.com/

Started to practice new characters for that SVC project, and boy, do I feel this ain't gonna work. I was going to throw these and not show them, but I'm hoping there's something we can salvage from these. I think I should stick to what I know instead of trying new things for an ongoing project and start over, but maybe I'm being to bitchy about that too.
In any case, please share your thoughts with me, see what can we do about it.

The cat eyeballs are really unnerving, especially with their bigger heads

Unless that's what you're going for, or you're trying to do a female cast of "The Nightman Cometh", try something else

I've got other nitpicks, but as far as "style" goes, that's mine.

agreed. Most everything else about the style is okay (though i've never been a fan of narrow ears), but the insistently long oval eyes is just unpleasant. and even if you do use it, you have to make them less wide in perspective. redhead looks okay (but you can already see how tilted eyes screw up your pupil placement) but the others with tilted heads don't have their far eye tilted, and the baseball girl in profile isnt tilted at all, so now she's got side eyes

we did an activity about that a while back!

though that's not exactly b-fast

You're bein' too hard on yourself, mate. This is good experimentation. You're trying out different shapes, different styles, seeing what works.. you're practicing good eye angles..
I think her hairstyle is terrible, but it's well-drawn and believable.

Still diggin' this comic. I like how just about anything can happen.

Noli would have porridge with dried fruit, and tea.
Fili would be mostly bacon and eggs.

On a food related note, here's Work In Progress on a new strip.

You really have a handle on humor. I need to study your ways. The timing is just perfect

Depends how fappable the characters actually are, as well as your own preferences.

If they're intended to be sexy, or can be sexified very easily, then no.

If, on the other hand, your characters are (for example) goofy little blob critters, then yes, it is weird.

Challenge Mode: Show us your characters and we'll tell you whether fapping to them is weird or not. That goes for everyone.

yeah i just laughed out loud at that last panel. nice job!

>Sci-Fi(story would be similar to a space marine travelling planet to planet)
When you say space marine do you mean of the Warhammer 40K variety or something more generic? That premise needs a bit more fleshing out.

>Shonen(inspired by naruto)
If the Naruto inspiration shows too clearly you'll probably be making a poor decision there. Everyone will either call it a rip-off or make fun of it because Naruto as a series garners a lot of criticism.

>Fantasy(DnD styled adventure, small group is formed over time with like goals)?
Don't do this. You will be the millionth comic to do this.

i think your style is great! and i like to think that i have a keen eye for these things

if this is your first time on HYWC you will notice the better artists ALWAYS get shit on (until they stop posting altogether) its actually really sad.

there are some things you should fix ie the ink lines change on all characters and some characters are shaded while some arent
this makes it obvious to the viewer that they are separate drawings and its hard to let them exist together in the readers mind

please keep posting here!
dont let the nay sayers run you away
please
we need more talent in these threads

>the better artists ALWAYS get shit on (until they stop posting altogether)
Yep, this happened to Carrion Girls artist. He realized his work was too professional looking for this sorry thread and stopped posting.

Anyone here working with traditional media? I'm making a comic on 11x17 bristol and need recommendations for a decent scanner

Is it alright that I kind of want to smooch Exris

I understand, Exris is a cute guy

>Make an obvious fappable character.
>everyone makes porn of her friend instead
Oh well.

His art was very detailed and distinct and I wouldn't rip on him for it but he definitely hasn't hit publishable level, let alone professional. It's a shame if he really left over criticism.

Damn straight. Your comic's a great read, dude. Keep up the good work.

Any Carson flatbed scanner will do as long as it can scan at 300dpi or higher. I'd recommend a scanner big enough to fit your paper, but you can always just scan in pieces and piece them together. I work in 11X17, and my scanner is sized for A4 paper. But piecing it is pretty simple.

have you not figured out that's a shitposter yet
how would they know it, if that was true?

If he mentioned it as a reason for leaving, if he stopped posting after some really insistent heckling, or if he's shitposting about his own comic's critics anonymously. That last guess is just cynicism though.

>he definitely hasn't hit professional level yet

It was a god damn eyesore.

Is this character fappable?

He mentioned nothing of the kind. he has specifically come in saying that guy's lying, a few times.

Not very appealing. Like another poster said, they aren't consistent in shape language/proportions...It looks like you can't really decide on how cartoony to make it. Their bodies are drawn in an oddly semi-realistic way that really clashes with how huge and simple the heads are. Work on stylization, look at other existing cartoons to see how they streamline their designs & keep them consistent with one another.

SU/10
Therefor
fapable.

did sarah from westtree fuse with that delicious brown cat woman from bleach?

>It's a "why didn't I just make a buffer I'm definitely not getting this page done on time" episode

He never said any reason for leaving. He just stopped posting.

Never happened.

I made a character for my superhero comic that he wants to come out with. Can I share her orgin story or is that a dumb move?

Try that sentence again

Does anyone have anyone reference for drawing animals? not the ken hultren book pls i already got that.

design.tutsplus.com/series/how-to-draw-animals--vector-21311

thank you user. got anything else at all please?

I think so but I can't find it. Too many damn bookmarks

Does anyone here do a 4koma? One with actual attempts at humor or slice of life and not pop culture references?
How do they fair?

Fleetwood Mac concert
you know what I mean nigga

I don't.. try using a subject, predicate, and object

Should I tell the story of the Asian comic book character my African American brother from another father made?

sure, but ask him first.

He wants me to tell it, he texted me the story:

She has telekinesis btw. Lihn is a 12 year old Vietnamese girl, her father was second in command during the Vietnam war. As the years went by her the older brother hated the fact that the father was secretly sending information about the Vietnam soldiers strategy to the American soldiers. The brother went to the higher ups and snitched on his father telling them he's secretly working for the Americans. They wanted to punish him for his betrayal, so they targeted his house leaving it dismantled while they detained the father and Linh . At the time of the incident the father did not know it was his son, he was trying to stop them from successfully achieving the ultimate soldiers. Indeed they tried but had too many fail attempts. In the result of failed attempts they tried to experiment on Lihn just to torment the father to try and break him for any info he had on the Americans, the experiment was a success but it soon got compromised. He prevented the attack on american that the general had planned using his daughter at that moment and kill all of the soldiers that was in the lab including himself before he died, he said, how much he loves her and she shouldn't be afraid. 50 years had pass sense that very day when she woke up they programed the mission in her head which was to destroy America, so the father hadn't truly stopped the plan that was set for her. Sorry for any gammar mistakes. I am really tired.
By the way the scientists kept her in a Bunker to keep every experiment protected.
