The Dad didn't deserve a majority of the shit he went through.

From what I've seen, it's not a very good show and everyone but Oscar is an irredeemable asshole. Also everyone thought Trudy was Asian. Also they wanted to fuck her despite the Hot Spanish Cop being superior. And then Dustin shows up to make slob fetish porn of the Ratchet friend.

It always turns into a thread about how Oscar was treated like shit, why the gross sisters were blue, what the fuck is Kwanzaa, and some other random gripe against the show . The only real discussion you'll get out of the show.

The mother looks white.

The Lilo and Stitch crossover was pretty good.

And while that's the general opinion, I can't help but think it mostly stems from people here always identifying way too much with male characters and always feeling way too sensitive whenever they're treated badly on any level. Yeah, Oscar was the buttmonkey of the show, but it was generally shown that he either makes it out in the end, or deserved at least some part of it. Was still a great dad with a great family.
And I never get how people think the mother doesn't look black, but I assume it's just because people keep expecting something extremely stereotypical, instead of just a black woman that looks beautiful.

>I can't help but think it mostly stems from people here always identifying way too much with male characters and always feeling way too sensitive whenever they're treated badly on any level.

For decades, a large percentage of American TV shows about families, have had the father (and sometimes the son) as the ugly/average-looking, constant fuck-up buttmonkey "he's not smart/wise but he's a good provider and he cares about his family" type character. The mother (and daughter, if there is one) is usually strong, physically attractive and/or intelligent, and is rarely wrong about anything from the show's perspective. This isn't something that people are imagining or just being too sensitive about; this is fact. And the Proud Family is no different.....which is partly why it was such a forgettable show.

The show was not really that funny overall, could be straight-up preachy at times, the animation seemed lazy for the most part (although to be fair, maybe that was the 'style' they were going for)....and honestly? It tried too hard to be black, with constant references to modern black culture. And yes, let me mention that I'm black even though it's pointless since I'm anonymous and therefore could very well be lying.

It's one thing to have references to black culture here and there....but there were so many wack 'jokes' and random mentions/references to subjects of black culture, that it felt like they were doing a black version of the Family Guy manatee writers from South Park....pushing around balls with random black references printed on them just to make up an episode.

And I don't know why some people ever thought Trudy was white or Asian or whatever. I could maybe understand them thinking she's white if they never watched the show and only saw a pic of her.....but her voice alone clearly indicates that she's a light-skinned black woman.

Honestly the main reason I checked it out was cause it was a cartoon about a not-white family and Destinys Child sang the theme. It was different, you know?

I'm not black though, spic. I liked it, wasn't a favorite but it had its moments and the art style was really cool. I liked the way the show portrayed hispanics too.

Dejanae is the worst possible human being in that show I'd rather hang with those ashy girls than that bitch.

>Papi always shit talking Sugar Mama in Spanish
>that fucking laugh

Why are they blue?

I remember a episode about Penny slipping on a wet floor and traveling back to a sort of 50's era where everyone was still racist or something

Also Oscar inventing Pringles

because they was the niggest.

ever met a black man so black he looks blue? I sure fucking have.

it tried to be G rated black

>I assume it's just because people keep expecting something extremely stereotypical, instead of just a black woman that looks beautiful.

No, it's because her skin color is light as fuck. Her hairstyle and hair color don't help either.

>black woman who looks beautiful
As advice Unless another black person says a light skinned black folk looks beautiful don't call them beautiful. Especially if you're white, they're going to give you one dumb ass rant after another.

Dey ashy negro.

It's the eyes that get me.

True, but Dijonay was also the funniest character on the show, if not the ONLY genuinely funny character....other than maybe Papi

Her and Penny's interactions got the most laughs from me, even when she was being a blatantly terrible friend to Penny

Perfect example: the episode when Penny was trying to squash the rumor of her and the nerd boy Myron being a couple.....one of the shows funniest sequences was Dijonay spreading the rumor to the whole school, then Penny confronting her about it (her face when Dijonay tried to blame her for starting the rumor was priceless), and Dijonay's interview with Myron afterwards where Myron tried to act like the rumor was true, while flirting with Dijonay at the same time

That was a top 5 episode of the series. Too bad they couldn't be consistent with the funny.....

>Trudy makes joke about only leaving Oscar for Denzel Washington
>everybody laughs
>Oscar makes joke about only leaving Trudy for Halle Berry
>everybody looks at him like he's Judas Iscariot

Oscar did suffer, but not because he was a jerk, rather he suffered for being a male jerk. The female characters could get away with a LOT of horrible shit, especially Suga Mama whose behavior was abusive even to her adult son.

>the fucking music pirating episode
Probably the dumbest preachy episode I've seen

They're blue because of what this user said. I never met one face to face but saw one walking down the street one time when I was in 5th grade. It freaked me out.

I'm black, but it shouldn't really make a difference.
I'd just have to disagree. The show was hilarious for me, and when it was "preachy", I sill thought it mostly did a pretty good job, with a decent variety of episodes. Was a fun and wacky show with the concessional, slightly serious episode that were still enjoyable, at least for me and my family.

Remember kids, if you don't buy a music CD, you're literally a suburban terrorist

While some episodes were actually decent or even just so weird they're still stuck with me as an adult (the one where Al Roker is basically Satan is really fucking original if nothing else), most episodes were meh at best and shit at worst.

Mostly annoying characters and voice work. It was a damn shame that most of the show had no polish. Lots of the sound was recorded horribly and the animation was jerky and didn't even match what was going on sometimes. Inexcusable imo, as this was a Disney show that came out with other, better polished shows.

As for the race thing or whatever, as a negroid myself, I never felt like that was super important. I'd rather watch a more competent show tackle shit like racial issues. It was ok with that I guess, but nothing special.

That said, I actually like a few episodes and will even go back to watch them from time to time.

>the animation was jerky
IIRC the show (Disney Channel's first original cartoon) was produced at a lower budget than other shows at the time.

They farmed out a few of the better-looking episodes to some Australian firm.

Most they just animated in-house or to a Taiwanese sweatshop.

>Make a show about black people
>White girl is still the best character

youtu.be/ME_6sReyDQM?t=1m15s

How can anyone else compete?

Nigga, I'm a girl and I never liked watching the shit that Oscar and some other male protagonists went through. I never found it funny and just felt bad for them, has nothing to do with identifying with them just because they are male.

Oh shit, I remember this...

this
If I recall pretty much everyone else was a horrible person

>people here always identifying way too much with male characters

jokes on you i only id with monsters and dragons and ambiguous oblong shapes

Perfect example of how Oscar was treated differently....that scene summed it right up

No one is saying he didn't have flaws - he could be arrogant, annoying and a bit conniving at times - but he normally received more punishment than what he deserved

Meanwhile, the family gets a babysitter that's "too perfect" for Trudy's liking....so she decides to not only fire her, but also casually decides to tell the rest of the family that Oscar fired her, just so she wouldn't have to take any heat from the family

You're probably gone but I'd assume it's like the whole
>Edd is a girl or Terry MCGINNIS is Asian
People just made weird assumptions because the artstyle despite all evidence saying otherwise.
Plus her hair looks like something an Asian Mom would stereotypically have.
It wouldn't be so bad if he didn't spend that whole episode bending over backwards to be an awesome dad for the babies and getting his ass beat by a bunch of babies for it. Then it ended like that.

Surprise lack of r34

One of my guiltiest faps was this incredible r34 pic of Oscar leering at a nude Penny, Lacienega and Dijonay. Dijonay was thick as hell in that pic.

niggers

The dad and the guy who only spoke Spanish was funny.
Otherwise it was either forgettable or preachy.
Some of the animation looked like shit.
The creator also made Bebe's Kids and Da Boom Crew, cancelling out any good will this show generated.

Would fug Dijonay.

And anyone who says Oscar doesn't deserve the shit he gets forgets what an asshole he can be.

Maybe he doesn't deserve ALL of it, but he's no better than anyone else.

I always remember wondering why Papi was so white

everyone in the show was an asshole save maybe zoey

Shut up, Boco.

Bebe's Kids was actually pretty decent (animation-wise, at least) for what it was, but it just one of those movies that isn't for everybody.

But you're right about Da Boom Crew.

This

I was about to say Sticky too.....until I remembered how he treated Dijonay like shit whenever she came onto him

And what made even less sense was that episode where she found a boyfriend, and all of a sudden he missed her and wanted her back around to annoy him again

I hated this show.

The main thing I remember about the show is how the Asian characters were portrayed as racial caricatures....which pissed me off as a kid.
I don't give a shit now but I was not a happy camper back when the show was airing.

sticky was a weird dude
honestly though more often then not he was cool just probably playing hard to get
i mean he probably did legit like dijonay but she came on WAY too strong

Erection for the mother
Also becuse i speak spanish granpa was funmy

>And then Dustin shows up to make slob fetish porn of the Ratchet friend.

Literally the only thing this shitty show was good for. Thank you based Dustin

Bring it back

i love skinny nerdy white girls.

It lasted 52 episodes and a made-for-TV movie. What's done is done.

Tell that to the people behind Hey Arnold

That's not true because Papi was the best character even though he was a literal walking joke.

Not really a good comparison because Hey Arnold never got to air the series finale movie while Proud Family did.

>is obviously NOT straight jackin'

youtube.com/watch?v=3k8ch2PAuuU

A lot of black people cartoons seemed to pop up around the time of its airing. They never really took off and were also visibly not made by actual black people for other black people's enjoyment. It feels like pandering to a demographic that isnt interested for while the majority of its viewers dont identify with the characters so it will always fail. See: Waynehead, Cleveland Show, and so on.

My Opinion?

It was OKAY.

I give it props for going outside the box with what could be the first Ramadan special. I also liked that one episode where Penny starts dating a guy in a wheelchair and he turns out to be a major asshole.

because they are crips nigga

The PJ's was way better.

Far right was the hottest, but the white girl was the best girl.
Penny was a good middle ground, jack of all trades, master of none.

Have you ever seen black people before? Light-skinned, hazel eyed blacks aren't that uncommon.

What did Proud Snacks taste like?

>What did Proud Snacks taste like?
All the bad aspects of junk food rolled into one, I suppose.

It was actually shown in one episode that not even Oscar could stomach his own product.

I hated when Wizard Kelly fired her just for correcting him

Most of the reviews on IMDb complain about how the show is "racist"

Is this true or are they just being oversensitive?

Ever seen Tisha Campbell-Martin? She's basically Trudy

I thought the lilo and stitch crossover episodes were hit or miss, this one being meh in particular.

Oh look, it's Sup Forums being tumblr once again

Almost like it was directed by Tyler Perry.

Some people didn't like how the Chang Triplets were portrayed.....

>I also liked that one episode where Penny starts dating a guy in a wheelchair and he turns out to be a major asshole.

That one was pretty decent.....especially when you consider how most cartoons automatically portray the disabled as good people or even heroes.....it was nice to see a show acknowledging that assholes can be wheelchair-bound, too

Blue lives matter

These bullies actually looked legit scary

I think it enforces negative stereotypes about black people.

Too good for the channel

>page 10
oh no you didn't
