Hey Sup Forums time for the ultimate taste test

Hey Sup Forums time for the ultimate taste test.
Name your favorite writer and artist. And the writer and artist you hate the most.

Think fast and smart. Harsh but fair. Don't name someone who mistreated your favorite character or whose work you'd enjoy if not for countless hate memes. Name those you truly love and despise for their craft.

slott/ramos, never read anything shitty enough to remember the author/deodato

>Don't name someone who mistreated your favorite character

Well then i have to hate North more than Slott for writers, whoever is drawing Hellcat right now is the worst. absolutely lazy.

Favorite writer King
favorite artist Campbell

Favourite: Morrison. Ferrayra.

Most Hated: Frank Miller, on both accounts.

How about you go, OP?

Favs: Scott Snyder / Francesco Francavilla or Andy Clarke

Absolute dog shit: Cameron Stewart and so help me god if I have to see another Jim Lee clone (all of them)

Brandon Graham for writer
Frank Quitely for artist

The one book that still haunts me for it's shit tier plotting, scripting and wording is Daniel Way's Venom. It was so fucking sloppy I think it was the first book I actually stopped reading "to find out about the sequence of events" to appreciate how shit it was.

I hate cunts who use 3D modelling and can't be assed to hide it or make it look better, so the list is long. I'll choose Janin because he seems to be the most celebrated of those hacks.

i have a lot of favorites, but doug tennapel and jamie hewlett are the main ones that come to mind. jeff smith and steve purcell are excellent, but just about everyone on Sup Forums knows that
i've enjoyed more things than i've hated, so the only writer and artist i can genuinely hate is john k, and if web artists count, definitely shmorky, but there's even more choices for god awful writers, artists and people in general if you add webcomics to the mix.

weibe/rossmo for best

buckley/liefeld for worst

easy targets, i know.

OP is a faggot.

Sam Kieth, until about the mid 2000's. I haven't read any of his DC or Marvel work yet. Tom Taylor after that.

Just one artist? Fuck that, I can't decide.

Ken Penders. He never did anything good. He did a number of horrible things. After nearly killing the book and getting kicked off and replaced, he then forced a continuity reboot and almost killed the book with a lawsuit. Not too often you encounter a writer who hates the fanbase that much. Cept maybe Kate Leth.

Dave Cockrum is pretty bad. Half the challenge of reading old Uncanny X-Men is trying to figure out what the fuck is going on since his artwork does NOT lend itself well to action. And whoever is doing the art on Squirrel Girl, since every single character looks like they walked out of that one episode of the Twilight Zone. Ron Lim sucked ass on Sonic.

Best: Chris Ware
Worst: Here Backderf

That's too hard, besides, all my favourite writers draw their own material and vice versa. Here's three:
Sammy Harkham
Julie Doucet
David B.

Favourite "just" artist: Steve Rude undoubtedly
Favourite "just" writer: I'll hafta go with something plebian and say Alan Moore. Yeah I know he draws too but his best-known work is all done with a separate artist.
Or John Wagner.

Artist and writer I hate the most, that's easy-Jim Lee and Jeph Loeb.

>Don't name someone who mistreated your favorite character or whose work you'd enjoy if not for countless hate memes. Name those you truly love and despise for their craft.

Fuck off. I don't care about anybody's "skill". Only thing that matters is if it makes me happy to see it or not.

Tom King and Paul Pope
Kate Leth and Chip Zdarsky

>Beckderf

what... really?
is it the art style cuz I guess I can understand how that's not for everyone but 'Trailer Parks' and 'Dahmer' were both great stories

I think Trailer Parks is one of the most masturbation stories I have read. The City is also really smug. He just comes off so smug and self impressed. Like in the original version of Dahmer where he claims to have simplified his art style specifically because his normal one was too complex for people to appreciate.

The final version of Dahmer is pretty good, but his other stuff just rubs me the wrong way.

>Ken Penders. He never did anything good. He did a number of horrible things. After nearly killing the book and getting kicked off and replaced, he then forced a continuity reboot and almost killed the book with a lawsuit. Not too often you encounter a writer who hates the fanbase that much
Don't forget him then turning around and claiming that he's the savior of the franchise

Favorite Writer Probably Lemire; however, I've been on an Ennis kick recently.
Favorite Artists: Charles Burns, Jack Cole, Steve Ditko. Honorary Mention goes to R. Crumb
Least Favorite writer: Bendis, I've just never really enjoyed his work and the more I get into comics the more you can tell that he just sucks.
Least Favorite Artists: Greg Land and any other artist with a really "tracey style" In other words I hate reading a book where every has a face ripped from a stock photo

Fave: Stan Sakai

worst imo: I really don't pay enough attention to something when i don't like it, bit probably Ben Cullen based on Sixth Gun

D'you mean the original short story version of My Friend Dahmer that ran in Fanta's Zero Zero anthology? The art style was identical to what I've seen of the graphic novel.
I don't like The City at all really and his drawing I can take or leave, I don't actively hate it, though.
Sorry to be a pedantic cunt but Your fave artists write their own stuff, too--what do you think of Burns, Ditko or Crumb as writers?

Alan Moore and JH Williams for favorites.

I don't tend to keep reading things if I think they're bad, so I don't really have a most-hated writer. Bendis is fucking unbearable when he's shitty, but he's done a lot of stuff I like too.
Mike Deodato or Robbi Rodriguez for hated artist.

I know they write their own stuff, I didn't want the same guys occupying both categories.
Burns stuff is really great sci-fi that I love to read. I've read all of his work, it is really fun, creative, and gets my imagination going. Ditko is an artist whom I really respect and I love being able to see his work as it evolved from Golden Age to Current stuff. However, his current stuff can be really hard to grasp. I recommend reading his current Mr.A if you want to read his recent stuff because his other series (it's just numbers for titles, I don't know what it is supposed to be called) gets really weird and very abstract. Ditko I really prefer as a comic artist first and a writer second.
Crumb's work is just eye porn for me. His stories are hit or miss, some things are hilarious, other things make me feel really filthy inside on a deep personal level (which isn't exactly bad, I just don't prefer that at all times.) With Crumb I have never regretted buying an art book of his.
I also like Lemire's art too, but that probably has to do with the fact that when I first saw his work it really inspired me to draw more. So my style is kind of similar to Lemire's and by proxy early Matt Kindt work.

Bumparino for potential

Who does Squirrel Girl? Yah that fuck.

Yeah, I know the art style is the same. If you find the original release Derf makes that comment himself. He says he purposefully dumbs his art style down for the masses basically.

I wish I had it in hand to show, as it sounds jokingly pretentious.
