Unpopular TV and Film-related opinions

>65/70mm film at this point is entirely a marketing gimmick and the filmmakers who are using it to lure in film geeks for the vast majority don't know a fucking thing about composing a shot in that format with that amount of detail
>the 80s were the decade that is responsible for the current monstrosity that is modern day blockbuster films shot by television-tier directors following exact instructions from corporate overlords who screen-test every moment of the movie again and again to ensure maximum potato-chip marketability
>Quentin Tarantino should stick to writing and hand the direction over to other more competent directors
>Ridley Scott made exactly two great movies and the rest of his career bounces between okay and garbage Alien and The Duellists
>80s Nostalgia filmmaking is a cancer that boils down to "REMEMBER [PRODUCT]?!" Instead of examining all the fucked up and weird parts of the 80s and relies on synth music and boring filmmaking to sell slick nonsense
>Brian De Palma and Steven Spielberg where the best parts of the old brat pack
>Martin Scorsese is artistically dead and has not made a great movie since the 90s
>Moonlight was a contrived emotional torture porn and is a terrible gay movie

...

>Tarantino should stick to writing and hand the direction over to other more competent directors

Kek, he wouldn't be doing very much work then since he literally steals the plot of all his movies from other movies

>Scorsese is artistically dead and has not made a great movie since the 90s
Silence was the best movie of 2016 and one of the best movies Score C has ever made. It might not be the usual gangsters and gunslingers film nerds usually love to sop up, but it was a legitimately great film.
This is coming from an atheist, by the way. Silence is one of the only religious films I can actually relate to.

It's not as good as his other religious movie Mean Streets

Am I pleb for thinking Tarantino's not a bad director?

Imo the best movie of the decade so far.

100% right user, glad there's still people like you on Sup Forums

>Zack Snyder has talent and somewhat interesting ideas but he needs to be kept in check
>Goodfellas is garbage, Scorsese is very a hit and miss director
>Kill Bill is one of the worst movies ever made
>Marvel Studios is destroying the film industry
>Hitchcock has never made a good film

>Marvel Studios is destroying the film industry
***Disney
They're also doing it with Star Wars and whatever the next wave of cinematic universe nerd-bait they're planning is

So, we sharing controversial opinions?

>New Hope is the only good Star Wars movie
>Nolan is an utterly mediocre director
>David Lynch's best movie is The Straight Story
>Tarkovsky is overrated. Great craftsmanship but lacking humanity
>Southland Tales is a misunderstood masterpiece
>So is Batman v Superman
>Manhunter is better than Silence of the Lambs
>I enjoy the movies of Wes Anderson
>Michael Bay isn't as bad as people say

Disney in general is pretty bad, but I was thinking more of what they've done with the cinematic universes and the way the Marvel movies are written and directed (which applies to Star Wars too, but I'd still say TFA and RO are better directed than the usual Marvel fare).

>New Hope is the only good Star Wars movie
You mean Return of the Jedi.

>Nolan is a great director, in fact good enough that he's able to craft his films to have more commercial appeal while still making good movies

>He'd be better off letting somebody else write though, it's the only thing that's prevented him from making a great film

Nope. Tarantino is objectively a great director. OP has no idea what he is talking about.

it's not disney's fault all the other retards tried to blatantly ape something that disney themselves just lucked into. they were doomed to failure and it's their fault.

You're right, but Disney's content is still overwehlming bad. I'm glad TFA made me realize I don't actually care about Star Wars. At this point I'm only looking forward to Thor 3 because of Taika and Ant-Man 2.

>Quentin Tarantino should stick to writing and hand the direction over to other more competent directors
no, he should drop writing entirely and only do films written for him, preferably with little to no dialogue. He can do great, suspensful scenes but he can't fill in the gaps to save his life and his dialogue hasn't evolved or matured since the 90s. He's simply not intelligent enough to tell a competent and coherent story through film.
