>OP was the only who got rejected

What did you apply for?

Show us what you got, OP. Some of us would be interested in reading it.

Its write there in the text.

Basically DC had open applications for writers and artists

Good on you for trying, hope you have more success in future. Don't give up!

>tfw you can't write
>tfw you can't draw

I thought one of the requirements was having already published work. So what have you written before, OP?

I bet Wil Wheaton got in before you

DC's development workshop required writers with pre-published work. Have you had any published work before?

>>tfw you can't write

anyone can write, just make a list of things that you like in stories, find out why you like them, then learn about writting structure and all that shit and then just try to write a story that you think you would like while also not making the whole thing wankfest

I just reread the thing and it doesn't say published work is required, but that you may include up to two published samples. You still need to submit your resume though and if you don't have at least one published thing on there I highly doubt they'd bother reading the rest of the application.

>tfw you can write
>tfw you can't draw
I've got stories upon stories with no real way to put them out there.

>write there in the text.
No wonder you got rejected.

Not OP but their "published" qualification was pretty weak. Basically posting on your own blog counted.

They won't hire some shmuck who's never worked in the publishing industry though.

Yeah but he asked as if it had to be something known to even submit. Or at least that's how I read it.

Based on the first spotlight on the new creators it definitely seems like they mostly skew with already famous people:

NEW TALENT SHOWCASE #1
Written by VITA AYALA, EMMA BEEBY, JOELLE JONES, HENA KHAN, MICHAL MCMILLIAN, MICHAEL MORECI, ERICA SCHULTZ, CHRIS SEBELA and ADAM SMITH
Art by BARNABY BAGENDA, JUAN FERREYRA, SONNY LIEW, DAVID MESSINA, KHARY RANDOLPH and more

I had a letter of recommendation from a person who's worked on DC books for decades, and I still got rejected. Bummer. I wish it hadn't been a form letter so I could know what to do better next time.

... well, only he who does not try is exempt from failure. Back to work on the webcomic and stuff. Good luck out there, anons!

I don't know who any of those people are. Except for Randolph I guess.

The thing hasn't even happened yet, I don't think those are people who were accepted.

I'm halfway decent at art and I can't write worth a shit so I'm stuck worrying about putting stories together and never actually finish anything and I want to kill myself for being a shit failure so iktf

How do you think new people get a start in the industry?

Not even Bagenda, Ferreyra, and Liew?

>How do you think new people get a start in the industry?

Nepotism and cronyism.

...ya got me.

Glad to know you're still goin! Good luck my friend!

But this user should've gotten in based on those criteria

earlier wave, the solicit says they're graduates

In the text of *the image*, dumb fuck, learn to fucking read before you try insulting someone and looking like a bigger idiot.

"A letter of recommendation from a person who's worked on DC books for decades" could refer to the guy who presses print for all we know.

If it were truly a big name trying to get user a job, they would bypass this application bullshit altogether.

The thing is, if there's even one schlub in the industry who has more of an "in" than user, that's out of his control.

Ah, care to shill your webcomic and tell us who that person is?

Sup Forums finally had a chance to make comics that weren't "trash"

I didn't know about it until it was already too late. Or else I would of gone balls to the wall and probably killed myself today after being rejected.

Sorry you got rejected OP. It's the worst feeling on earth and we're expected to feel it all the time.

Yeesh man, it's just a workshop. You've gotta learn to take a littlerejection.

By getting in 20-30 years ago before everyone and their brother had a shitty webcomic or story blog or

oh my god this guy.

>anyone can write
yeah anyone can sing twinkle twinkle little star too. there's more to real writing than "lol things happen."

>wanting to get into DC
>not wanting to get into Image with Creators for Creators

Won't tell you the person, that's their business. But I will plug the webcomic.

cassiopeiaquinn.com

Why would you want to work for a company that constantly delays shit?

There's an episode of Ren and Stimpy which makes fun of this very thing

Maybe they should advertise whatever the hell that thing you said is.

That's how you become a producer.

...

>falling for the Image meme

you basically can't make money there unless you already have fans from a big 2 run

Hot damn

But you get a big 2 run by releasing indie comics... right?

>Won't tell you the person, that's their business

So you made it up?

No, you have to know someone

:^)

You can't imagine how that might be embarrassing for a pro? To have it out there that a letter of recommendation they wrote didn't carry enough weight to get someone into a program run by the company they work for?

by having a webcomic that reaches widespread meme status.

You realise that this is an irrelevant thread on a Japanese image board, don't you?

All we're going to do is point out why whatever name you make up wasn't big enough.

>lay myself to sleep at night
>listen to music, spend an hour and a half coming up with a story
>wake up
>the idea's gone
>rimse and repeat
It's like a Greek tragedy.

>you can't write
>you can't draw
>you aren't even that creative
>any ideas you do come up with are incredibly derivative
I've just resigned myself to just enjoying things since I'll never create anything good

What about doing funny voices?

I don't think you understand how the adult world works, user.

you could also shitpost a lot about comics on twitter and call one of the big two misogynists while shilling the other until one of them hires you

>have ideas for horror stories and imagery in your head that you personally find extremely unsettling and gorgeous
>realize that you will never be able to draw anywhere near as good as whatever you're imagining in your head
Oh how I wish I was Mike Mignola.

The best I can do is a poor Mickey Mouse imitation. Also, I've never been interested in voicework.

You're a moron if you don't think that some nerd in this thread wouldn't go all-out and email/tweet/etc the pro/the pro's friends/etc about it as soon as a name comes out

God some of you are so fucking retarded

>are incredibly derivative
Nigga, everything is derivative. Yet there are as many interpretations of something as there are people to see it. You know the path to creativity? Doing shit nobody's put together before.

Take your favorite genre, or plot. Now: what is a story element/direction you've always wanted to see from those stories, yet never gotten?

Write that. Write specifically to entertain you. If you enjoy derivative shit, then tons of people will enjoy your shit.

He's just a little naive, I don't blame him for asking.

>tfw so late that I'm only just now hearing about this
>tfw know that I would've ended up rejected anyway even though it's my dream job to work at DC as a writer
I hate myself.

I hate myself sometimes too, chief. But that's all the more reason to improve yourself. So you don't have to spend all your time with someone you hate.

>Anyone on Sup Forums going big
>Even more as a writer

Just publish your own book instead.

I've been working on creating amateur comic books, maybe eventually getting something published on my own and then working my way up to working at DC and getting to do my dream projects, among other things.

But becoming a comic book writer, a well-known one even, just seems so ludicrously unlikely, to the extent that it's utterly impossible. Dreams only hurt you and crush you with disappointment when they don't happen in the end. Why hope and try to get my spirits up when I know it's not going to be something that will happen?

Honestly I think it's because we are so lazy that we spend so much time on this site instead of working.
When I wasn't browsing so often I was working harder.

All I'll say is that if you're doing this hoping to get rich and famous, you're in the wrong line of work.

Success in this field is measured in creating good work and finding artistic fulfillment. That's what you've gotta hope for. Plans, not dreams.

>All I'll say is that if you're doing this hoping to get rich and famous, you're in the wrong line of work.
It's not like it's all I've ever wanted. I've had stories in my head that I've been tossing around since I was in high school. It's something that I really want to do.

I mean, just because you want something doesn't mean you'll get it. I have to laugh at the narrative that says that if you really wanted something, it would be yours. Because that's not true. There's always going to be a loser. For anyone whose application DC actually accepts, there's going to be hundreds, if not thousands more that they'll reject. That's just the way the cookie crumbles and that's how it is anywhere you go. Some people just never 'win' is all.

>MICHAEL MORECI
Well, he's already done some Image stuff - imagecomics.com/creators/view/michael-moreci

>no Batgirl by Psuedo

>>/r9k/

Don't you draw porn?

I only draw blacked porn of you're mum

You draw porn of him being a mum?

well that's why you didn't get accepted.

Book that exists to trigger me.

>you can write
>you can't draw, so you can't into comics
>you can't program, so you can't into video games
>you can't produce, so you can't into stage
>you can't get a writing gig for anything, so you can't into TV or movies

Im gonna be a writer or die trying. You dont have to work at dc first OP.

>not turning the tables and writing a rejection letter to THEM instead
Weak.

Did nobody from here or Reddit get approved?

>tfw you can draw but can't write for shit
>tfw your creative ideas are extremely rare occurrence in your life
>tfw destined to be some lower-paid schmuck bringing everyone else's ideas to life

>tfw you can write and draw well enough
>tfw you decide to waste all your time fapping
Please tell me I'm not the only one.

That's okay, half the people in the industry can't either.

Sorry to hear that, GW. Better luck next time.

I know that feel, which is exactly why I said fuck it and just started constantly drawing and working on improving these past few weeks. I have way too many ideas and things I want to see happen only for it to go to waste because I feel sorry for myself.

...
you're not

Yeah, nepotism and luck. I got neither.

I got mine, too! I have published work, but I couldn't secure a recommendation letter in time. Oh well. I suppose they had a ton of experienced applicants. I'm glad I tried, though, May try again.

>tfw you can draw but you lack any creativity so it's just same shit different day
>tfw you can draw but have no will or desire to and it's become almost a phobia to do so

Yeah, generic rejection letters are rough.

ITT: People who can't draw but think they can write.
>muh writers
You're worthless and it's time the real world told you so. A mediocre drawer can gain 10 times as much followers as you with 1/10 of the effort.

Anyone who did may not have been finally selected yet. They will probably do rounds of cuts

Why would I care about followers? I just like writing.

Why would he even make it up?

What are the odds of DC doing something like this again?

True, writing is more than just stuff happens. but at the same time if you never even make an attempt, then you're worse than a failure. because atleast the person who failed made an attempt.

Writing only for yourself? Take your masturbation somewhere else, it's disgusting.

Guys creativity is not a innate talent, it's a skill you can learn and practice to get better. Look up some creativity excercices and tips, and actually sit the fuck down to do something. Start small, not every story you come up with has to be your ultimate epic, but actually finish it, even if it sucks, you'll be becoming better just by doing it. I'd say also try different genres and keep in mind what your target demo is, you'll be fine.

Better start preparing for next year!
