Heathcliff struck out

Heathcliff struck out.

...

>A FUCKING SQUID

At least this one is semi-coherent unlike

Is there a pun I'm missing

I'm not intelligent enough for Heathcliff

...

...

>rags

...

...

...

...

SQUID

On a side note, are the last few strips more absurd than usual to anyone else?

...

...

...

...

this is way too coherent
must be a shoop

oh lord it just gets worse

...

YOU'RE A KID NOW
YOU'RE A SQUID NOW

...

...

...

...

...

...

I know the joke is to not get it, or it to be so bad that thats the joke, but what is the deal here?

I really can't figure out what's supposed to be the joke. He's batting with a squid? Bat squid, squidbat? Is this high brow humor?

daba dee daba dah

dead game

Did anyone ever tell you that you are doing God's work?

...

It's not just high brow. It's hyper brow.

Like a lot of Heathcliff's comics, this one is supposed to recall to an earlier strip, where there existed a context for the joke. Without knowing this the strip becomes completely pointless, though it's pretty pointless even if you know it

Really, what do the Okapi have to do with anything? Did I miss something about them that makes them relevant to the punchline?

Ohhhh. Ok that makes a little more sense.

What?
What?
What?

I'm not sure any more either. Whilst definitely has a point, these days I wonder if "what?" is the reaction Heathcliff threads are supposed to invoke.
As such, please accept my 2 Heathcliff bait strips, useful for all baiting and bait responding purposes.

...

This one makes for an excellent reaction image

SHOULDA KEPT AN EYE ON PIRATE'S COVE NIGGA

I think the better question is why are the birds canaries instead of bluejays.

Is that supposed to be a fencing costume?

The old tv show could not have possibly prepared me for this comic.

Man, that complete logical dissconect.
It's like the cartoonist can do whatever the fuck he wants and still get published. If only I could land such a sweet gig.

...

How does he move the Ziggurat? Because he's had it in different locations.

>It's like the cartoonist can do whatever the fuck he wants and still get published
He regularly includes characters that he doesn't have the rights do. Not just obscure characters either, he'll straight up use Mickey Mouse and Big Bird and get away with it.

I think its a variant on his beekeeping uniform with a different helmet. Heathcliff works as a beekeeper in his off-time and will regularly hit hot ramps with his bike over the bees.

Isn't there also a snow version?

...

...

The theological implications are interesting

...

...

...

...

The majestic pinnacle of Heathcliff

Yeah, that's his Winter Ziggurat.

This remains my absolute favorite Heathcliff comic.

Oh I get it, he's doing a stunt so he's a "dare devil". And a devil going to church is very odd

...

Oh, Heathcliff!

...

He is the Stig from top gear.

The joke is he is racing to church on a motorcyle fast like the stig from top gear who drives fast cars

Thats not even a joke

You think Gallagher ever draws porn? Not just nudity but honest to goodness smut

There are just so many layers of meaning here, there's so much going on. It's incredibly dense

How would you tell?

Is there any comic character that could stop Garbage Ape?

And I'm not just talking about conga line Garbage ape

Fair use because parody, perhaps?

I'm sure that's the excuse he would use, but the thing is that there's nothing you could call parody in any of the strips. They're just... there. I mean, it's still Heathcliff, so there's barely a recognizable joke let alone something you could consider parody.

It's like he just uses copyrighted characters just to prove he can even if they don't actually add anything to the strips themselves.

I think because of the way that the strips are syndicated, the copyright holders would have to sue each individual newspaper that publishes the strip rather than the Creators Syndicate or Gallagher himself, making it too cost prohibitive to go after him for it.

...

...

What the fuck is happening in these comics

Maybe his goal is to so utterly confuse any possible judge or jury that nobody would ever dare to take him to court

the TRUTH

Ah I see, foreshadowing for SU's season 4 finale

...

>people accept the "it's parody" argument because they don't want to look dumb for not understanding a Heathcliff comic
Gallagher is a madman.

Most of them are pretty self-explanatory. The OP usually tries to give further insight and explanation for those that have trouble getting the joke.

I think it's actually sort of the opposite.

Much of Heathcliff is self-referential, so you need to know which comics it's referencing to get the joke.

...

>Gallagher played or saw gameplay of battlefront 1 and/or 2
Incredible

Is Gallagher the Morrison of newspaper funnies?

Heathcliff becomes the ultimate life form

In many ways, yes.

this is it

this is art

No, you are not stupid enough for Heathcliff. No one is.

Is there a more intellectual newspaper comic than Heathcliff?
