Another interesting science fiction idea SU puts across is the idea of society and civilisation developing with the knowledge that mankind is neither alone in the universe, or remotely special. It undermines all concepts of helocentrism, and religious principles of mankind as the centre of the universe.
With hundreds of legends of the gem rebellion, as well as the numerous artefacts and locations around the globe pointing to interstellar life, how would society has developed differently? Less strife and attempts to conquer in the name of greatness, given how man is incredibly humbled by the existance of the gem warriors.
Perhaps this explains the rather relaxed political situation we have in Steven Universe. Limited government, which doesn't seem to enforce schooling or any kind of protection, could point to a bare-bones government which only exists to regulate regulators, like Mayor Dewey
