Any godzilla movie that isn't Shin shit.

Well, I really loved Shin but its not the best.

The one against MechaGodzilla or the one versus Gamera are better.

>there are people who think pic related is better than Shin Godzilla
wew

...

The first one is better.

Speaking of good movies, first part of the Gamera trilogy is like the blueprint of a fun monster movie.

>or the one versus Gamera are better.
Whoa. What did I miss?

It and Gamera the Brave are a grounded update on the campy adventures of Gamera's early years. They also have the budget and talent to work on an unironic level.

The only thing that made the movie watchable was the nuclear-powered plasma jet effect.

I enjoyed the editing and soundtrack. Also I really liked the whole bureaucratic angle, until it dragged on for too long.

Honestly 2014 was Top-tier

Almost all of the ones that take themselves seriously are better and more enjoyable. Shin is just a weeaboo fanboy fuckfest.
>what if Gojira shot lasers?
>what if he shot lasers out of his back?!
>WHAT IF HE SHOT LASERS OUT OF EVERYWHERE!?!?
>Make it happen. But don't forget to do your homework.
It's a stupid fucking flick.

You must be talking about the year. Because the Godzilla flick that came out that year was garbage.

Not really
Probably the best Gaijin could have done with Godzilla.

it was a worse movie but I really enjoyed rippezilla. He had a bit more life in him than shin goji

2019 gonna be great. Gojira vs. Gamera done by a nippon freak.

The only good part of 2014zilla was the first teaser.

>Probably the best Gaijin could have done with Godzilla.
Are the standards really this low?

just rewatched it, now on bluray
the effects look improved, theyre so great and they look like practical effects but arent
>who will know starts playing

What do you people expect in a Godzilla movie? Serious question. What makes one "good"?

What Godzilla connoisseurs expect:
>bad writing
>Godzilla shredding the fuck out of Japan
>a not so subliminal message that Japan is being punished for their own incompetence or past mistakes
Shin Godzilla:
>Good writing
>Godzilla shredding the fuck out of Tokyo in a spectacular way
>Japan suffering because their government is incompetent
Really, any movie involving Godzilla and those 3 traits tends to be good. The 60s and 70s Godzilla often miss the last part but are campy enough to compensate.

The Heisei films are the weakest in my book. Before the insults start flying and someone tries to throw the Showa Era under the bus, remember that the Godzilla films made between the late 1960s-mid 1970s were intended for children's festivals and made on shoestring budgets in a dying film industry.

GMK. It's the best Godzilla movie

Credit where it's due - they succeeded in being fun, campy, comfy, whatever you like to call it. I don't know anyone of worthwhile opinion who would dismiss Showa Godzilla completely.

One of the best, right?

Less anime laser faggotry, more monster fights in crowded cities. Godzilla firing lasers out of his asshole and extremely poorly written "The government, am I right?" bullshit that takes up 75% of the runtime do not add up to a good Godzilla movie. The reason Shin is popular here is solely because of the anime laser faggotry.

It was a shit bud

Shin Godzilla was well received in general and wasn't just the lasers. The satire was effective, characters fun to watch, and the editing and cinematography were on point.

Lots of dumb shit is well received in general because in general most people are stupid. Crash won Best Picture.
And there was no satire. The Japanese don't understand satire. It was just bad writing, dingus.

godzilla vs king ghidorah is straight fucking kino

1) name some good Godzilla movies and state why
2) explain how the writing in Shin Godzilla is bad. It better not be "not much Godzilla" and "nothing happened"
3) Bad films win awards sometimes. Okay? Good films win them too. In this case a good film won like eleven.

Does anyone remember that trailer for a new Gamera movie that came out in late 2015? What ever happened to that?

>it isn't lasers
That's part of it, go to any fan of this movie and that is the first thing they will tell you about, they will talk about it a lot, and then try to offset that talk with "satire" and "characters"

>Satire
You mean watching the same scenes over and over again? That sure is funny. Also the jokes they make are funny the first time they make them, not the subsequent times.

>characters
I see a lot of love for these fuckers. If you love them so much and think they are so great. Then name 5 of them without a google search. It shouldn't be hard, there are a lot of them.

I can name 2. One because he was the main person whose name we see like and hear like 100 times, and the other is because I hate her and her stupid engrish so much. And it doesn't even make sense for her to speak like that, she is supposed to be a 3rd generation Japanese American. I've heard 1st generation Japanese American's speak better English than her.

Notice how I wasn't able to remember anyone by their personality traits, because they have. none.

>editing
If you are entertained by something like a boardroom meeting because of quick and snappy editing then you have some mental deficiency.

>INB4 You just don't get it/You just aren't a Godzilla fan
I own every Godzilla movie there is and have watched them all multiple times.

And I do understand the message this movie was trying to convey. The government is slow and shitty and we need new people and a new system. And you also believe that Japan should be able to have it's own real military now. I get it. I don't need it hammered into my head every 5 minutes

Most Godzilla movies have some sort of message, by it the dangers of nuclear weapons or the fear of rampant commercialism. The difference if that they are all much more subtle than Shin. Even Godzilla VS Hedorah was more subtle

The fucking text was over the top, like fucking introduce your characters normally for fuck's sake. That is lazy writing, and the fact that people defend it is saddening.

The effects are a mixed bag entirely, half the time they look good, but the other half they look so bad that the worst of it looks like a straight to DVD movie

Wanna know why it got great responses in Japan? Because of the Fukishima message, and the nationalism. For all the people calling this movie dark I don't see it. The film ends with Godzilla getting soundly defeated without putting up too much of a fight. They just curbstomped him. And then afterwords a guy says that Japan will be radiation free in a year

If you really wanted a good Fukishima message then affected areas should have been a nuclear wasteland, Fukishima isn't just still fucked, it's getting worse to the point where the pacific biosphere may die out

It's a nationalistic, happy ending. That's why it was loved there, because it made them feel good about themselves.

Go ahead, call me a cuck or a faggot, I don't give a single shit

I have never seen people be so obsessed with this movie that not only do they make threads about it daily, they act like you just spit on their mother if you say anything bad about it

planning on getting high, drinking beers with a bro and watching a Godzilla flick. I've seen the 2014, and the 1999 ones. Suggest one that is genuienly fun, like Mad Max: Fury Road fun. Will reply with which one I watch

54 is undoubtly the best one, but it isn't fun

Final Wars isn't good, but it is cheesy and hilarious, you would probably love it when you are wasted

Im not so certain it was a totally happy ending. It would appear to imply the very likely return of Godzilla, or a man and Godzilla hybrid. It's deceptively pleasant, but I dont think this destroys it. And Godzilla pretty much curb stomps them for the better part of the whole movie.

...

>Final wars

my nigga.

Thanks m8

They aren't really hybrids, they are just the next evolutionary stage

I dunno, I still find it funny how a creature that constantly evolves does not even bother to close it's mouth when the hoses get stuck in it's mouth.

>Godzilla pretty much curb stomps them for the better part of the whole movie.

Not really a good excuse to have a climactic final showdown be so devoid of suspense. Characters even say "this is all going according to plan" so there is no tension

Imagine if in A New Hope the destroyed the Death Star without losing a single fighter. You could say that the Empire curbstomped the rebels the entire movie but that would still make the final battle lame

But it is.

The original one !!! It's the best of the bests there is.

Poster of these here
To clear something up, I don't hate Shin. I just don't like or it get the praise.

If I had to rank it, it would be in like 15th place

Lasers were the most flashy part of the film. People like flashy things. Doesn't mean they're unable or don't appreciate everything else. Or maybe you're just reading selectively. The satire was not the "same scenes over and over again." Were you even paying attention? Characters: Rando, Patterson, Akasaka, Hiromi, Shimura and the Prime Minister Okochi. Yes I enjoyed the meeting scenes. They reminded me of 12 Angry Men and Doctor Strangelove. Two films that I also thoroughly enjoy. How else would you have preferred the meetings?

The film had a $15 million budget and shorter production time than your average Hollywood effects flick. Sure there are a few bad moments. However, the effects are solid overall and at times genuinely rivals G14's $160 million budget.

Shin Godzilla spoke to its target audience like Gojira spoke to the audience of its time. Problem? It's a coming-of-age story for the nation. They're learning to solve their own problems and not to always be dependent on allies. Is someone else going to act in your interests all of the time? No. Why is that message so upsetting? Just what the nation needs to hear in the midst of low birth rates and following a devastating crisis.

The Japanese cooperated with the United States and France, among other members of the international community, to find an alternate solution to the nuke. There's the brotherhood of mankind theme Honda was so fond of. Yes they managed to "freeze" Godzilla at the end. Though you conveniently leave out that they only nearly avoided the spawns escaping, Godzilla isn't dead, and the moment he wakes up Tokyo is going to get nuked. It was only a temporary solution and only had a low chance of success to begin with. The ending is deceptively optimistic.

And the Japanese didn't curb-stomp Godzilla anymore than they did in Gojira or Godzilla Raids Again. You're nitpicking hard to justify the irrational hatred you have for this film. It's without question within the top 5.

godzilla vs king kong

literally the GOAT

>all that shit
>nitpicking
>criticism = irrational hatred

This is what I was talking about in the end of my second post

But do whatever, continue to have your daily circlejerk threads and cry about "hate" whenever someone dares to say anything bad about your precious little movie

>tfw I cried watching Gadzookie get ragdolled for no reason

...

...

Find a flaw

Literally every point the over fa/tv/irgin made was completely legitimate. Why are you so upset?

Check out Godzilla vs. Biollante.

Literally the worst part of Gamera 3 and dragged the movie down whenever he was onscreen. Him and his female friend.

Godzilla 2000 of course
American dubbed, is better

t numale

the bitch did, Kurata didnt

If you applied half of the effort you applied here towards critiquing the rest of the Godzilla collection you would have a difficult naming ten actual good movies. And look at the tone of your posts. That's why I described it as irrational hatred. Humor me. What's your top ten? Apply the same standards. Characters, writing, and editing.

Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla

Movie isn't out yet, senpai. King Kong vs Godzilla is and it's a heavily flawed piece of work.

Brainlet detected

Yeah. A proof-of-concept trailer screened at New York Comic-Con back in 2015 and a director was announced. Then it disappeared.
